man........... thinking about how at least half of the s62 generation ended up volunteering for underprivileged orphans in the final timeline........... and being really emo about it......

we never learnt much about what kind of lives they came from, and i've never been really invested in them particularly compared to everyone in toman. the haitani brothers in particular i still think are hugely overrated, lol. but i'm kind of appreciating them more today?? moreso characters like mucho and mocchi than the brothers, but.

like even just that one piece of information about their future is enough to show that they're not inherently bad people and are even capable of caring about others - literally having a job entirely dedicated to that, in fact! contrast that to when they were in bonten and the difference suddenly makes them really interesting to me. granted, they're still characters who aren't explored in any real depth, but. it makes me wonder how they ended up in the gang life to begin with and what happened to them to make them so violent to begin with, etc...

anyway all that aside i am thinking about mucho and kakucho especially today. ironically this all started from imagining their reactions to the time travel of tr for fun, because characters being shocked by the existence of the supernatural is something i always utterly adore in fiction... and then it kind of escalated from there, lol.

like, i don't think that tr is trying to argue that anyone was obligated to save mikey, or that they'd be bad people for moving on with their own lives. and it's true that sometimes trying to push too hard and putting yourself and others in danger for the sake of another person isn't a good thing!

so part of me (almost) does feel conflicted that takemichi's attempt at saving mikey worked out 100% in the end... it's not necessarily healthy to believe that you can save everyone all the time, especially if it might hurt others and yourself to do so??

but i also can't help but admire the idealism. maybe takemichi "should" have been punished for selfishly putting mikey first - but to be fair, everyone in toman who got involved did so knowing the dangers and was willing to accept them. takemichi was going to let mitsuya go before he decided to join the new toman of his own volition, for example. and mikey did ask to be saved in the end... i like that takemichi was rewarded for his refusal to leave mikey behind, and i like that tr firmly takes the stance that it was possible to save him. he was never a "lost cause."

it's just a manga that doesn't want to leave anyone behind! i don't want people to take the message from it that they have to put others before themselves or put themselves in danger for their loved ones, and that it'll always work out, but... sometimes it's worth it to not give up on people! i don't think tr ignores the fact that it could've gone horribly wrong, but it's about weighing the risks. no-one regretted getting involved in the end. idk where i'm going with this. is any of this coherent or am i talking nonsense (again...)

i know that the tr ending was rushed and could've been executed way better, but like. i do like how it sort of works thematically. everyone being deserving of being saved and the importance of relying on others and not trying to take everything on alone are both key themes of the story, so how does it end? with mikey learning to rely on others (opening up about his struggles & trusting takemichi in the end), leading directly to everyone being saved.

idk. even those themes arguably could've been executed better, but. i do really like the idea there.

might try adding waka as a muse honestly. just a teritary one, but still. the concept of him being a normally super skeptical guy (not superstitious at all), but that conflicting with his trust in shinichiro and what he told him, would be kind of neat.......... i'm not suepr attached to him since we never learnt all that much about him, but. he's cool. lol

thinking about wakasa today... i am so interested about him & his knowledge of shinichiro's time leaping tbh???? like i always wondered why he didn't tell mikey sooner about all of that, but there's a lot of interesting possibilities there that i find really intriguing...

maybe he didn't actually believe shinichiro for a long time, possibly even until the fight of the three deities, where he saw mikey actually kill someone for the first time. or maybe he either did believe him on the time travel, or didn't know what to believe about it, but was much more skeptical about the idea that mikey was cursed (again, until the three deities battle). and then he was like....... oh shit. lol

i also really want to know how that conversation went down! like, was he expecting mikey to not believe him, only for mikey to be like "oh yeah takemichi is a time traveler too so that tracks" lmao??? just both looking at each other like "wtf" for a moment. also, did benkei know about any of this?? i assume that wakasa told him too, since he didn't look surprised at the reveal and chose to join mikey alongside waka in kanto manji, but it didn't seem like anyone else (other than sanzu of course) in KMG had any clue about everything...

wanted to make a post on the similarities & differences between mikey and senju and how they both try and shoulder too much responsibility but in different kind of ways... but it ended up feeling kind of dumb and like i was overthinking/seeing things that aren't actually there otl.

still. it's an interesting parallel. mikey does do this much more intensely than senju does overall, but it's clear from quite a bit of senju's dialogue that she has a bit of a habit of blaming herself for things that aren't actually her fault, too.

i want to see mikey-naoto interactions... scenarios where they're forced to work together... especially if there's some elements of time travel involved and naoto absolutely hates mikey while mikey is completely oblivious as to why.

today i discovered that in the 4th character book for tr, south actually has a list of the people he felt were strongest in fights. (i think?? unsure of the exact translation)

mikey was obviously no.1, and then draken, kakucho and senju followed after that. which is super interesting to me! i saw a lot of people claiming this shows that senju is weak, but i don't get that at all lmao - the list shows that she's clearly up there with some of the greatest fighters in the series and at least close to their level, if not equal to?? don't forget how freakishly strong draken and kakucho are, lol :P

i do think power-scaling isn't my thing generally (if you enjoy it, go for it though!) but it's also interesting that benkei and waka aren't on the list, so she's at least considered stronger than them (by south). so like. even if senju isn't literally as strong as mikey or south, she's still one of the strongest characters in the series overall.
