Of A Different Tongue (Sam Winchester)
Prompt: Nada es Para Siempre by Luis Fonsi
Warnings: none
Summary: Sam catches a bilingual (Y/N) singing and asks her for a dance and a translation
A.N: To all of my Spanish speakers out there, I’m sorry if the Spanish isn’t perfect. I’m not a native speaker, and so my language is a little bit shakier. Thank you for understanding <3
Cooking breakfast in the morning was incredible when nobody else was awake. It meant that I could listen to my music, and make food for the always-hungry Sam and Dean Winchester.
My music wasn’t anything like what Sam and Dean listen to. Sam listens to old country, and although I disliked it, I respected that that’s what he likes. And Dean was known for his 80’s rock, of which I didn’t mind too much. But I liked to listen to music that wasn’t even in English. Like the song that was on right now, Aqui Estoy Yo by Luis Fonsi. It was a love song, sure, but it made me sing out every time.
“Aquí estoy yo para hacerte reir cada vez mas confia en mi, deja tus miedos atrás y ya te das aquí estoy yo con un beso quemandome los labios es para ti, puede tu vida cambiar dejame entrar”
I continued singing, swaying back and forth at the stove as I made bacon for us all to eat. I loved the song. It reminded me of the unrequited feelings that I had for the younger Winchester. The meaning was strong, and it made me think of what I could give to him. It was okay if he didn’t want me, but I at least wanted him to know that I’m here for his happiness. Even if I wasn’t that happiness.
So I sang my little heart out in Spanish, the words flowing from my mouth freely, as if I wasn’t in America. The smoothness of the words, the way words rolled off of my tongue, it made me happier.
“(Y/N)?” Sam asked, stepping into the kitchen. I let out a small gasp, rushing to turn off the music. “No, no, continue. You sound beautiful. I didn’t know that you spoke another language. Spanish, is it?”
I nodded, still shocked that he didn’t make fun of the music. “I suppose it just didn’t come up in conversation. And it doesn’t sound beautiful, it sounds like a whale trying to talk.” I laughed.
“It does not.” He laughed back. He hit the next button on my phone, the next song blaring out. It was Nada es Para Siempre by Luis Fonsi. I robably just played music from one of his albums, explaining why the last two songs were by him. “Sing for me?”
I thought of the lyrics of this song, knowing how fitting they were to Sam and I’s situation. I nodded, allowing myself to sing to him.
“Nada es para siempre amor Hoy nos toca compartir la misma luna Y mañana quién sabra si hay una separación O habriá fortuna Nadie sabe amor Nadie sabe qué podrá pasar mañana Quiero amarte hoy Quiero abrir todas las puertas de mi alma”
“What does it mean?” He asked me, sitting down at the counter.
“You wouldn’t want to know. It’s a silly love song.” I laughed, going back to the bacon before it burned. I took off a few strips, and began to put more on, but suddenly Sam was behind me and he turned off the burner and set the tongs down. He turned me around gently, and then held his hand out to me. “Wh-”
“Would you like to dance?” He asked, an adorable half smile on his face. I bit my lip, grabbing on to his hand before his arms wrapped themselves around me. My head rested on his chest, his chin on top of my head. We swayed to the beat, my mind asking itself why Sam was doing this. It was so unlike him to be this straight forward. It was usually cute jokes and an occasional movie night. “And, I’d still want to know what it means.”
I sighed, pulling away slightly until I was facing him, yet still close to him.
“Nothing is forever, my love. Today we share the same moon, and tomorrow, who knows if we will still be separated or if we will be lucky. Nobody knows, my love. Nobody knows what could happen tomorrow. I want to love you today, I want to open all the doors of my soul.” I told him, watching the way he looked at me. “Like I told you, a silly love song.” I laughed, which caused him to laugh as well.
“Well, (Y/N), I think it’s absolutely adorable when you sing in Spanish. Do you speak fluently?”
I nodded my head, blushing over how he thinks my singing is adorable. “He hablado desde que era in niña.” I smiled, knowing that he didn’t understand what I was saying.
“It’s honestly amazing to hear you speak Spanish. Well, hearing you speak in general is a blessing.” He smiled, craning his head down. He gave me a gentle kiss on my left cheek, making me blush even harder. “Would you like to teach me some Spanish?”
“You give a cute kiss on my cheek, and then ask about Spanish?” I laughed, trying to wiggle out of his grip so that I could finish the bacon. He wouldn’t have it, though, and he pulled me back in.
“Let’s try this question. Would you like to go on a date with me?” He asked me, a hopeful I smiled and nodded my head, wrapping my arms around him. “Tonight at around six o'clock sound okay?” He added on.
“Sounds perfect to me, Sam.” I told him.
He leaned in so that his mouth was right by my ear, and we stopped swaying. “Hearing you say that is absolutely perfect to me.”
