“Fruit?” Drew asked skeptically. If there were two things that he didn’t see as belonging together they were fruit and pizza. Though, May had always been rather adventurous when it came to food.

"I don’t see how fruit and pizza is a very good combination but… have it your way," he let out a light laugh as her placed his own order and retrieved his slice. His stomach growled in anticipation as he waited for May.

May stuck her tongue out at him before turning to the man behind the window and placing her order. Once she had her slice, she licked her lips as she eyed the pizza, eager. 

"Yours looks good," she pointed out, but she thought hers looked better. Taking a seat at an empty table, she took a bite, content. 

"Yummy!"

H-Hi May..

"… H-Harley? What’s wrong—?"

"Oh how cute. You think that you’re just going to decorate the cake?" He perked an eyebrow at her. He points behind him at the dirty dishes. "The one who didn’t make the cake has dishes duty. Go take care of that." He hands her the sponge. "You’re going to hand wash them too."

"E-eh--?!" May turned to the dishes and frowned, whining. "All by myself?" Hanging her head, she made her way to the sink, supposing it was fair. "Okay," she murmured, picking up one of the dishes.

Score. The little crowd in Drew’s head cheered as May accepted his offer. He couldn’t help but feel happier knowing that she was joining him on his junk food adventure.

"Great." Drew smiled before pointing just down the street. "I’ve had my eye on that stand right there for a few minutes now. Let’s go check it out." He waved a hand, motioning for May to follow him.

Upon approaching the booth, Drew skimmed over the seemingly endless menu of toppings, unsure of which to pick.

"…Maybe I’ll get peppers and sausage," he said after a moment of thought.

May peeked over and followed Drew's gaze, smiling when she spotted the stand. "Oh, that one! It smells super yummy!" 

She quickly stumbled after him, not noticing he left until a moment after. She stood before him as she looked over the menu and frowned. How could she decide? They all sounded so good!

"Peppers and sausages?" She wasn't actually too surprised by his answer for some reason, but she wasn't sure that was what she was craving. "I kinda want fruit on mine."

H-Hi May..

"… H-Harley? What’s wrong—?"

He chuckled. “Alright. Next time though, I’m having you bake it by yourself. I won’t even tell you what to do. If you mess up, I’ll just mock you for it.” The coordinator began putting the ingredients together. First it was the eggs, then water, and then oil before he started to mix it manually. He tried to keep an even pace so that he wouldn’t hurt his wrist as he could feel the batter thicken up a bit. Once that was taken cared of, he had to find a cake pan, smother the inside of it with butter and then poured the batter into the pan. He was rather quick with this too as it was already set in the oven.

On the microwave, he sets up a 30 minute timer and pressed start. The numbers on the microwave started to count down. “That’s it. That’s all it takes. It’ll bake for 30 minutes and then we wait around 10 minutes or so for it be cool enough to decorate.”

"Fine," May muttered in agreement, puffing her cheeks a bit. The idea of mocking her wasn't pleasant, but she should try to make a cake on her own at some point. How else would she learn for sure? She continued to watch Harley go through the motions, peeking into the window of the oven once it was in. 

"We'll make it look super pretty!" May chimed, tilting her head to the side.

H-Hi May..

"… H-Harley? What’s wrong—?"

"Yes. This is the hardest part of baking." The timer on the oven beeped. "Oh. Seems that it’s at the right temperature. Once we’re done mixing and we pour this into a cake pan, we can pop this baby into the oven and wait about.." He checks the box. "Hmm.. 30 minutes. A neat trick to have under your belt to make sure that the cake’s cooked inside is to have a toothpick and you poke it through the cake. If it comes out clean after jabbing it a couple of times, then the cake’s fully baked. If it comes out messy, then that means that it needs several more minutes in the oven."

He placed a hand on her head. “If this is too much, I can do the baking. I can just let you ice it.”

"T-that might not be a bad idea," May decided. She could just be an observer and learn as a spectator. Besides, decorating was the most fun! "How long does it take to bake?"

Only May would still be hungry even after indulging in something like that. But, well, he supposed that it was good news for him. He had more recently been looking for excuses to see May outside of battling and contests. A festival like this one served as a perfect opportunity. He couldn’t let it go to waste.

"Would you like to join me then?" he asked, smiling. "I was thinking about getting some of that pizza over there, and you make for good company."

"Pizza?" May asked, her eyes shining. It had been a while since she had pizza--she had been lost for quite some time, so she had been depending on what she could scavenge out of her bag and the nature around her. "I'd love to!" 

May couldn't help but feel happy that Drew would ask her to eat with him--it wasn't often Drew took the initiative to make plans. She wondered what kind of pizza he liked?

H-Hi May..

"… H-Harley? What’s wrong—?"

He opened the mix. “First of all, you pour the cake mix into the bowl. Then you do a quick tap with the eggs against the edge of the counter, cracking them a little. Carefully open them above the bowl and don’t let any shells fall into the mix. Then you get your water and oil ready and pour that into the mix. Finally, you blend it all with either a hand mixer or by spatula but I’m sure that you don’t want to use the spatula. That’ll just kill your wrist. You keep blending it until you don’t see anymore powder or lumps in your batter.”

"O-oh, got it!" May exclaimed, trying to repeat all of the steps in her head. There certainly were a lot of rules when it came to cooking. In a way, it reminded her of coordinating. Cooking was just as much of an art as anything else. "So we just pour in the mix, then?"

H-Hi May..

"… H-Harley? What’s wrong—?"

"Alright. Grab the eggs." He searched through the cabinets, picking out the measuring bowl and cup. Retrieving the box again, he opens it and takes the mix package out, setting it aside. The empty box is handed to May. "Alright. What do you do first?" Harley knew how to bake a cake already but he was training May. She obviously needed to learn how to do all this in case she wanted to bake a cake for her friends, family, or even Drew. Snapping his fingers, he knew that he forgot something. "Where’s the hand mixer?"

May nodded and grabbed them, but was unsure what to do with them. She paused and became shy, shifting her feet. "Um... I'm not sure. Do we put the eggs in the bowl...?" She felt pretty stupid, but it was kind of nice to be able to see first hand how a cake was made. Maybe this information would stick with her after all.

Drew let out a slight, disgruntled sigh. Fried foods simply never had all that much appeal to him—but the lingering scent of fried dough and pizza was somehow alluring tonight. Maybe he was so hungry that his stomach was imagining things. Either way, he had to get something to eat.

"I guess you’re right," he sighed, noticing a pizza stand behind May’s head. Pizza sounded good right about now. He had half the mind to head over there right that moment, but he stopped himself. May was here. Alone. And he couldn’t help but think that something about her looked awfully cute tonight.

"…Are you hungry?"

That’s a dumb question.

May couldn't help but notice Drew seemed awfully conflicted over this. Maybe there were just too many options and he couldn't decide? I mean, she knew that she wanted to try everything, so she could certainly see how it was a troubling choice. 

"--Me?" May pointed to herself as she glanced around before looking back to him. "I have only had cotton candy--so I'm still pretty hungry." She had been so distracted looking around that she hadn't gotten to do or try much yet.

H-Hi May..

"… H-Harley? What’s wrong—?"

Watching her struggle with the oven, he went over and grabbed her hand. “Here.” He had her push one button and then press the arrow to set the number. His hand left hers after. “There you go. You’re done. I used to have one of these models before at my old place so I know how to set them up. Quite easy. Once you get the hang of cooking and baking by yourself, it comes naturally.” 

Heading over to the fridge, he takes out the eggs and placed them on the counter. He started to search for that oil again in the pantry. Once he finally found it, he snatched it up and sets it next to the eggs. “Alright. Get your measuring cup, measuring bowl, and hand mixer. Read what it says on the box after getting your bowl and start adding the ingredients in it.”

May watched Harley for a moment, in awe at how naturally he moved in the kitchen. He did everything so smoothly that it looked easy. Glancing back at the box, she skimmed over the directions. It seemed simple enough, Approaching the counter to join him she peeked over at the eggs. "I think we need three."

"Quite the sight isn’t it?" the male teen began as he gave a small chuckle, which the female was able to feel due to how tight she was squeezing him, "Are you going to hug me any tighter?"

This caught the teen off guard as she turned her head slightly away from the comment as a clear shade of blush crept across her face. Skye could only laugh more as he began to point down at the sea of evergreens and flying type Pokemon that were flying next to them.

"Mm!" May agreed, trying to get a better look. At that comment she felt flustered, letting out a shy huff. "W-well, I don't want to fall, you know--!"

When the two finally reached the ground, she looked around curiously. "Where is this place?"

H-Hi May..

"… H-Harley? What’s wrong—?"

He turned to her, frowning. “Vegetable oil brings out the taste in chocolate. It also keeps your cake moist whereas butter will dry it out faster. It’s a very common ingredient in baking. There are other substitutes like margarine or yogurt but since we’re using the beginner’s way of baking, it’s required.” He grabs the box and reads it. “You need eggs, vegetable oil, and water. This already has everything else mixed into it. If you were going to bake a cake the normal way, you require things like flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, etc. Now set the oven please.” Harley hands her the box. “Read the instructions.. put it on the appropriate timer to preheat.”

"A-ah, okay!" Overwhelmed, May sets the oven after reading over the box. Or at least, she hoped she set it. She wasn't quite sure how to use the oven. Harley seemed so knowledgeable when it came to baking that May felt quite inferior--she didn't know if she could keep up with what he was saying. She just prayed she could somehow do everything right and Harley would feel better.

H-Hi May..

"… H-Harley? What’s wrong—?"

Approaching her place, he had a glance around in the area. It was small but lively at least. Searching through her pantry, he frowned a bit to see the easy, pre-made chocolate mix that only require a couple of eggs, a cup 1/2 of water, and 1/3 of vegetable oil. “You don’t have any regular chocolate cake mix? Hmm.. I guess this will do for now as a substitute. I don’t usually like using the pre-made though. Just doesn’t taste the same.”

Harley placed the box on the counter and went back into the pantry. “May? Where’s the vegetable oil and icing? I don’t see them in here. Also, read the instructions on the back of the box and pre-heat the oven. I think it requires to be either 350 or 360.”

"... Eh?" What was he talking about? Why would you need vegetable oil for a cake? Vegetables didn't belong in cake, right? "U-um, I don't know," May answered, unsure. "Maybe we don't have any?" She was beginning to wonder if running to the market wouldn't be a bad idea. It seemed like Harley knew what would be best to buy.

The black haired teen glanced over his shoulder and smirked at the girl, which promptly caused a shade of crimson to spread over her face. He could't help but to laugh as as turned back to his Pokemon partner, which he gave a small not to.

"Hang on tight!" he called to May as the ground and dragon type launched them into the air at high speeds.

May squeaked and closed her eyes tightly, grasping Skye more firmly as they took off. Once they head steadied in the air, she peeked out with an open eye before her face lit up, lifting her head from his back in awe.

"Oh, wow--!"

"Ah, wonderful," Drew sighed, aggravated, pinching the bridge of his nose. If the Pokemon Center was as packed as May claimed it to be, then there was no way he was going to be able to get back there and have a hot meal delivered to his room by a reasonable hour. That didn’t leave him with very many options.

"I was hoping that I’d be able to get back quickly so I could get something to eat within the next hour—but that doesn’t look like it’s going to be the case," he said, eying the large group of people and stands blocking the road. "I’m starving," he murmured to himself.

May tilted her head curiously as Drew went on about food before glancing around the festival.

"--There's lotsa food here," she pointed out, holding up her cotton candy a bit for emphasis. "I mean, hot meals, too!" After all, the thought of having no food was too much for May. She couldn't imagine what Drew was feeling--to be looking forward to a nice hot meal only to have it torn away from you.

"Well, I suppose that isn’t so bad. So long as the Pokemon aren’t being injured, I don’t see much wrong with a contest of beauty. I assume that coordinators too need to be completely in sync with their Pokemon?"

"Well, it is still a battle--just with more emphasis on appeal." She didn't know why, but the air felt a bit more tense than it was before. "O-oh! Yes, the relationship between coordinator and Pokemon is really important!"
