i think one of the more overlooked, insidious things about social media and the internet in general is that it tends to give you this illusion of being part of a valid in group and serves as a substitute for human interaction and intimacy, so you don't actually have to strive to break out of your shell and have fulfilling relationships with people in person, and as a result your life does not end up improving. it gets worse. you're lonelier, your incessant need for validation grows, and your ability to socialize with real people face to face is stunted so much over time to the point where you can't even hold eye contact for more than a few seconds. no doubt this contributes to a lot of anxiety disorders as well.

I dont do things for others so that they'll clap me on the back and acknowledge me, but after so many years of no appreciation for the thought I give to others in lieu of my useless self, I'm beginning to hate people even more
