“Yup. I love reading. I don’t really have much time to read anything else but chemistry books and weird ass science journals, but I do love Austen.” She chuckled, “You teach english?”

“Yes. Yes, I do - Austen, Bronte, Shelly - all those.” He smiled.

Things weren’t exactly going to plan and Peace had decided to do as the humans do when things didn’t seem to be coming up roses. They had decided to go for a drink and, while, they knew that probably wasn’t how angels were supposed to deal with dire situations, they hadn’t exactly been behaving all that angelic anyway. They took a small sip of the liquor, catching sight of someone just down the bar looking in their direction. They offered them an awkward smile before his instincts screamed out an alert at him and his eyes flashed a slighter shade of blue. He, however, didn’t move he simply nodded “hello,” unsure what else to say when one was confronted with a demon - especially one of this caliber.

“Peace?” The word was an excited whisper, falling from her lips like a prayer itself. Though cloaked there was a certain flutter behind her, the excited shudder of wings perhaps, and Rose felt herself shifted forward with movement that was too liquid and continuous to be human. Suffice it to say – there was a bridge between assumed mortality and near godliness. “Oh my, I didn’t think I’d see someone here that– Hello!”

Peace almost froze when they realised who he was speaking to. They had spent so long away from home that they had almost forgotten what were the signs of celestial beings. They instantly crossed their arms over himself, as if forming a barrier between themselves and the archangel. “Gabriel,” they said with a nod “hello - I hadn’t realised...” they paused again, sinking further into their human skin the more Gabriel shifted away from it “what are you doing here?”

“Not really,” Thierry admitted. “I don’t usually read books like these.” He shrugged again, but not with distaste. It had actually surprised him that he’d enjoyed it at all. It had been a pleasant respite from hard, cold science. “I liked it.”

"What kind of books do you usually read?" Daniel asked. He was always keen to know what exactly got people's boxes ticked when it came to books that people enjoyed.

“I’m more so wondering how you will manage to get through a twenty thousand word essay of any kind, if I’m to be entirely honest.”

“It’s a skill in itself, I must say. It can drive me a little stir crazy sometimes though.”

“Well, maybe they just don’t like Austen. Which is cray, because she’s amazing/ I’ve always wanted an Alex Knightley.”

“I totally agree! So you read a lot?”

Yikes—..Maybe they’re just really into Mr Darcy? Don’t judge their style.”

“Maybe... or maybe they just don’t know one Austen novel from another. Although, of course, I shan’t judge.”

Shrugging, Thierry slowly closed the book and picked at one corner of the cover. “I hadn’t read it before now.” Fiction wasn’t something he enjoyed as much as nonfiction. There was something more satisfying about acquiring information he could utilize in real world scenarios. “I liked Northanger Abbey better.”

Daniel tilted his head slightly at that - Northanger Abbey was a book he hadn’t actually read until all that recently - which was partially a crime since he was an English professor - but he had enjoyed it all the same. “Are you a big reader?”

Thierry was sitting in a small alcove with his feet tucked underneath him, quietly reviewing the book before class. “Do you really wonder that?” He asked without looking up, a trace of amusement in his tone.

He chuckled himself with a nod “well, with the books synopsis so easily accessible on Wikipedia, you’d think they’d have at least tried to make it discreet they haven’t read the book.”

“You have to wonder how one my students managed to write a twenty thousand word essay on Mr Darcy when we’re reading ‘Sense and Sensibility’.”

“We’re in a horrible, repugnant place now where kids are told it’s their right and due to be hugely famous. Not good at their job, not good at anything, just hugely famous. This is not sane. Little girls think they’ll be famous if they have vast breast implants and might as well die if they don’t.”

↳ The Past

One of the youngest angels in heaven Peace had been immediately stationed as a guardian angel and, by extension, been hotwired to care for people. Not understanding how anyone could hurt another soul, they strived to make a difference whenever they could, leaving Heaven to watch over and guide the humans that seemed to be fighting their way into destruction. Their elders often told them that, while a world of peace was ideal, there was a war always brewing between the world above and the world below. However, Peace’s naïve nature, told them not to listen to the seraphim’s that laughed when Peace preached of a world where everyone got along and, so, they decided to take matters into his own hand, ignoring their duties as a guardian. Peace chose to find a host on Earth. They wanted to prove to the angels that laughed at them that humans could be kind and a war between demons and angels were not inevitable.

Just on the outskirts of London, England Peace found a young English professor, Daniel Cassidy. He had very little family left and the family he did have he wasn’t in contact with. He was the perfect host for Peace using him would not disrupt anyone else’s life. After some gentle persuasion, Daniel agreed to allow Peace use his body and, finally, Peace had taken the first step towards is solo mission in preventing war.

↳ The Present

After a few months of trying to make a difference in London – and remaining unsuccessful – Daniel was fairly close to giving up completely and returning to Heaven. However, Daniel was soon contacted by a few angels who told him that he was to use his disguise as a human and go to New Orleans to keep an eye on the area and make sure no demons caused any mischief. They planned to use him as nothing but a pawn in the supernatural game of chess and yet Daniel planned to use his stationing in a completely different way. Daniel arrived in New Orleans with a suitcase and a big grin on his face and promptly took up a job at the university as an English professor again.

For now, his plan is to pose as an unassuming human without prejudice to the supernatural and help whoever he can while keeping an eye out for any trouble that could be caused. Archangels are constantly breathing down his neck, desperate to send someone to assist him; however, Daniel is doing everything in his power to stop that. He knows as soon as another angel arrives, his plans to befriend demons and single handily stop a feud will be seen as delusional and he’d be in quite a lot of trouble.

↳ Personality

Naïve and optimistic, Daniel’s views on the world are incredibly childish. He wishes to see the good in everything – even the deepest darkest pits of hell have a silver lining as far as he is concerned. However, despite this, he is not stupid. He is incredibly intelligent and appreciates the beauty in the world and the things humans have created over time. It’s one of the reasons he is still able to continue as an English professor as he adores to read. While Daniel can come across as rather weak due to his views and his youth but he does know how to defend himself and refuses to be walked over and treated like child. This slight rebellious streak can often get him into a few sticky situations and leads to his elders treating him a lot less seriously.
