My Thoughts on Gossip Blogs/Burn Book blogs
Well, naturally, with any group of people, drama will ensue. Everybody can’t be expected to like everybody else and that’s understandable, but what I don’t find to be appropriate is creating these blogs to fuel people’s dislike towards each other. Whenever I come across someone I don’t get along with, I don’t make a big deal of it, and I’ll simply unfollow and/or ‘ignore’ them which is like the equivalent of blocking someone on facebook; I have no desire to post to all of the internet about any drama that may have ensued, or why I don’t like that person because it’s not constructive. Now recently, it has come to my attention that there is a gossip blog that is more or less focused on the little community of which I belong to. As I’ve stated before, there will always be drama where the internet is concerned, but I feel like a page dedicated to putting other people down whether it be their personality, or their writing, or their themes, or really anything that one could think of is not something that I condone. Blogging in general is a hobby, whether or not you’re a roleplayer. It’s supposed to be a relaxing and fun experience in my eyes and I feel like it would be difficult to have fun when some anonymous person is putting you on blast for something irrelevant.
A word of advice to all of the people who have participated in the bashing of another online through a gossip blog, and to all of those that haven’t; if you don’t like someone; don’t make it such a big deal. Talk to them about it, or don’t if you think it’s going to start drama. The internet is a big place and for every person that doesn’t like you, there are ten who do. I’m taking a pledge not to ever make a post on a Burn Book or a Negative Gossip blog; and I hope you will take that pledge as well.
