Having lost my partner to cancer last year, this scene in the op literally makes me cry every time I see it and the entire op genuinely just crushes me every week. It's hard to comprehend how much a loss of that magnitude will change the way you experience things until you are forced to experience it first-hand. Cherish every second you have with those you love. Never take it for granted.

Dungeons and Daddies Season 3 Finale Spoiler thoughts

Love DnDaddies but man am I still just not totally stoked by the ending of season 3. I'm totally fine with a bad ending, that isn't my issue at all. But the way we got there just felt wrong from the character's perspective and I feel like Francis was the only one speaking sense. I just can't imagine being an adult, being told "if you sacrifice yourself, your child, your students, this weird boy with a stump leg, all your loved ones, they will all live. Or you can risk all their lives along with yours to avoid you sacrificing yourself." and going "Yeah, if I can't live, I'd rather everyone die."

And I think the main issue I have with it is that it is presented as a morally justified answer and touted as being more sensible than Francis (imo) rightly calling out that they are not "doing their best" as Kelsey says. Because their best would be sacrifice. But that's the harder of the two options. I think if the adults had played into being scared of dying. Being scared of leaving people behind to the unknown. Being cowardly. Hell, being selfish and just wanting to live without having to make a sacrifice. If they hit that angle, I think I could swallow it better. But Matt argued it was the better, more sensible option, because they didn't CAUSE the world to be in this situation so they don't hold the responsibility of sacrificing someone to fix it. But that's life. Sometimes you are the only one around for the trolley problem. Sometimes it is up to you to make a sacrifice that will hurt you but ultimately save people that NEED you. Now I'm not saying it's easy, nor am I saying everyone can muster the courage for the ultimate sacrifice of self. But framing it in any way other than admitting that it is cowardice, or at best hubris, is my issue with the adults in the situation. Characters with flaws are awesome.

The animation style of Anastasia has always creeped me out but I've never been able to figure out why... any thoughts?

a LOT of the movie was rotoscoped, which means that live action reference footage was filmed and the animators just directly traced over the person and their movement which can look a little disturbing and can even dip into the uncanny valley depending on how well it’s done because it generally doesn’t have the stylised, squash and stretch style of animation that everyone is familiar with and is a lot more… fluid, I guess?

it’s the same way with a few really early Disney movies - compare the Blue Fairy (who was rotoscoped) to Pinocchio (who wasn’t) and there’s a huge difference in the way they both look in static images and especially in the way they are animated:

there’s a post floating around tumblr about how Anastasia was rotoscoped with several thousand notes and dozens of “that’s so cool and inventive!” comments but in the animation industry rotoscoping is considered really cheap and lazy for kinda obvious reasons, similar to someone tracing a photograph and then trying to pass it off as their own original artwork

reference footage is usually filmed for most animated movies to give the animators a sense of what the characters should look/move like in general and for anatomy and positioning purposes but yeah directly tracing over footage is a big no no for most

I have never in my life heard someone call rotoscoped animation cheap, lazy, or bad. Rotoscoping is laborious work and not "easier" than non roto animation lmao. They are both very different styles and they both have their pros and cons, as is the case with everything. I know this is an old post but as someone that has experience with roto animation and non roto, it is extremely silly to read someone insulting roto this bad. Same vibe as "digital art is easier than traditional and many people consider it cheap and lazy".

Rotoscoped animation is dope.

Frankenstein was such a beautifully done movie. Unfortunately, it was a very poor adaptation of the book that removed any and all depth. Definitely worth a watch regardless, but sadly, it still leaves me wanting for a proper adaptation of this iconic story.
