fascinating how Guy Haley really went out of his way to make sure the reader knows how monstrous and repulsive Konrad Curze is (the constant stench of blood and decay, the twitching, general insanity, unwashed... everything, the whole cannibalism thing..) and especially how much worse it's gotten towards his death.

AND YET.

he makes sure the reader also knows that "underneath all that grime he is beautiful" - this is mentioned multiple times, including how white and nicely even his teeth are.

and don't get me wrong, I'm all for the tragedy of being able to see What Could Have Been but surely, surely there must be a line. somewhere.
