James nodded. “Yes but…I’d be able to feel again Qrow.” He said, knowing that the other man would be concerned by the prospect of surgery but hoping that the benefits to him would outweigh the risks in the other man’s eyes.
He lets out a breath, he couldn’t deny him that. Not after he’d already ruined his life. “Alright, I know it’s important to you...” He says, rubbing a hand over his neck, “Just ... promise me this isn’t going to go wrong.”

Jaune nodded, smiling. “Rest is always good.” Sleeping on the floor would be better than nothing. Since the beds were spoken for, Jaune and Ruby in one and Ren and Nora in the other. At first Jaune had assumed he and Ren would share, but when Nora jumped into Ren’s bed, he just shrugged and went with it. “Did you know Ruby is a cuddler? Because I sure found that out fast.” He was usually the little spoon.
“Ohh...” He says, scratching the back of his head, “Yeah, she picked that up from her mom.” Why was his stomach twisting strangely? Wait, why were his cheeks getting red? And why couldn’t he stop thinking about how cute Jaune would look all cuddled up.
“Just don’t get any funny ideas,” He teases.

“You’re so needy,” Jaune teased. Truthfully, he didn’t mind too much. It was nice to be wanted. As long as Qrow didn’t actually take anyone’s head off.
“Please,” he waves a hand, “I’m like, the least needy.” H
He was very needy.
“Now, does this mean I’ll have to take you on a date?” He tilts his head, “Because I don’t know many places that are uh, kid friendly.”

“They’ve found a way to make artificial nerves that would allow me to feel things through my right side.” He said, looking to Qrow, thrilled by the idea of being able to feel his entire body again rather than just feeling half of it.
“Does that mean more surgery?” He’s uncomfortable with the idea at best, against it at worst. He didn’t want to loose the other male to something such as this.

“You are going to have a lot of heads to take off,” Jaune teased. “I’m a hunter, lots of things are trying to hurt me.” He sighed, letting his head rest against Qrow’s shoulder. “Relax.”
“Hey,” He pouts slightly, “I can at least act like the protective boyfriend.” He teases. This was nice, having someone to hold like this. He really didn’t care about all the questions that would be asked as long as he had Jaune.

He walked up the stairs to their room, stopping outside. “Are you staying in the inn too?” He didn’t know where else he could be staying. He just wanted to make sure he had a place. Not that he really needed to worry about Qrow, but he was going to anyway.
“Uh,” Qrow had planned on spending his entire night at the bar getting wasted. But Jaune didn’t need to know or worry about that so- “Yeah. Sure. I’ll just sleep on your guys’ floor or something.” He shrugs. “Could do with some rest anyways.”

A few weeks later, James got a call.
He stood in his kitchen, making breakfast when his scroll rang, the caller ID telling him it was someone from the hospital. Listening to the offer, he tensed slightly out of a combination of fear and excitement. After thanking them he turned to Qrow. “They’ve called me in for an upgrade.” He said simply, looking to the other man, a soft smile on his face.
Qrow had been standing and drinking deeply from his coffee, the call hadn’t disturbed him. Jimmy got calls all the time, but it was the way he reacted. He tilts his head at the news, apprehension immediately running through him. “What ... is the upgrade?” He asks, one eye blinking slowly. Whatever it was it seemed to at least lift his spirits.

“Let me guess. You’re drunk again and want me to practice by myself while you go pass out again, right?” Neptune asked before the other had a chance to say anything. By the look and smell of him he’d just gotten back from the bar again.
And this was why he shouldn’t have opened his mouth. Neptune gave a sigh and pulled out his weapon, transforming it from its gun mode into its glave form. “Alright, I’m ready,” he said getting into a fighting stance.
Qrow doesn’t really give him a warning after that. He comes at him hard and fast, sword clanging harshly against his glave. The old hunter smirks at him, red eyes glowing. Welp, the best way to get over a hangover was kicking someone’s ass and poor Neptune had volunteered.

Angel sighed with a smile as the man before him shrugged off his worry, at the very least if he could act so cocky, he was obviously fine, Angel chuckled at Qrows question “Well…how about we leave the drinks and go on out together… ~”
“What leave these drinks?” He cocks a smile, raising his glass to his lips. “You don’t know me very well if you think I’ll leave alcohol behind.” He taunts, winking at him as he takes a long drink. It was true, he really did want to stay in the bar, but Angel’s presence was quite nice.

His situation was messed up. Colonel who had suffered extensive and life changing injuries in a confrontation with the man he was now in love with. It was all a mess but he had to ignore it. There was no one else he would rather be with and if this is what needed to happen to get to this point than so be it.
He presses closer to him. When Qrow had joined Salem he had thought he’d be killed while in the field. Hell, he had even hoped for it at some points. But this, he had never truly imagine being in James’ arms, being his boyfriend. No, he had never imagined being happy at all. His regrets are deep, but he doesn’t regret being with James. He never would.

“Alright, alright, I’m just messing with you,” Jaune said, smiling at him. Again, Qrow seemed sort of off, but Jaune didn’t press at the moment. Pushing him wouldn’t help anything.
Finally they reached the inn, Jaune tugging open the door so they could go inside.
He follows after him, mouth set in a small frown. The hell was he doing? He knew the kid could take care of himself, he’d seen it before. Yeah, he may be a bit self sacrificing but all hunters were, the good ones at least. And Jaune was also capable of carrying more than one grocery bag, and Qrow certainly wasn’t the chivalrous type.
Qrow shakes his head, simply following mutely behind the boy.

“True,” Jaune agreed. He leaned back into Qrow, giving a little hum of contentment. While Qrow seemed to be playing it cool, Jaune didn’t try and pretend he was anything other than happy. “Glad that’s settled.”
He wraps his arms around him a bit tighter, glad that at least the younger male was enjoying this. Qrow could feel the old protectiveness seep into him. “If anyone tries to hurt you ... I swear I’ll take off their heads.”
