For this project I focused on my parents. I wanted to show how their lives changed after immigrating to the United States from Mexico. I chose to do 5 photos for each of them with the first two photos being about their lives in Mexico and the other three from their present lives in the U.S. Their first photo is of their primary school certificates. My mom wasn’t able to finish primary school until she was seventeen because unlike my dad she was from a poorer town that only had school available when there was a teacher available, which wasn’t very often.  The second photo for my dad is of his student ID. He went to an academy in Mexico to study accounting. My mom wasn’t able to get any education past primary school so her second photo is of her in her early 20s. To show their present lives in the U.S. I took photos of what they generally do. My dad has been an iron welder for decades now because the certificate he got for accounting isn’t valid in the U.S. Since his education from Mexico isn’t valid here,he has had to do many hard labor jobs in order to support our family. My mom, never having a proper education, has never been able to have a proper job. She has been a housewife most of her life and now that her children are old enough to take care of themselves she occupies herself by doing things like gardening, sowing, and cleaning up after my dad. I’m grateful for having them as parents because I know they struggled and gave up a lot to give their children a better life.   Â
