Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā :dļ¾ā§Ā HONESTLY, IT DIDNāT MATTER IF HE LISTENED OR IF HE DIDNāT, MARY KATE would go on and on about it either way. The girl didnāt know when to be quiet most of the time until it became so obvious that she had no choice but to notice. Really, she hadĀ āvocal diarrhea,ā if he said it, well, it wouldnāt be the first time she heard it from someone. She didnāt care, honestly, it never bothered her. Sooner, sheād cut them out for caring too much that she filled the silence. It wasnāt so much she wanted to be heard, she just couldnāt help speaking every thought she had before she forgot them. Even if they were unimportant. And often her mouth and brain were quicker than any filter or censor she could possibly put on. Perhaps it was best her boyfriend wasnāt always around. When he agreed, though, she grinned ā she should have realized he had no idea what she was talking about, but she didnāt. She was glad to hear he agreed, though. Who wouldnāt be?Ā āThank you.ā It at least set the thoughts to rest for a moment that spewed from her mouth, giving them both a breath as she smiled, a smile that brightened her face. Stereotypical, she was almost stereotypical when it came to sorority girls. But still, she was better. Maybe heād see it. But at least Avery did.
When it went back to Derek, though, there was a sort of stink eye that took over her look, it wasnāt unattractive, but it did contort her face and turn up her nose as she tried to bite her tongue like she would with Avery, because she respected her friend. But she did think she was making bad decisions. Even if she could see why Avery made them.Ā āI thinkā¦ā Mary Kate started, serious for a second,Ā āI think she thinks she is, he fits the future sheās wanted. And what she views herself as. You know she loves Hilary Clinton and she stood by Bill, it seems thatās what she wants to do even if she doesnāt have to,ā she pursed her lips.Ā āI never liked him, but donāt tell her that. Or Antoine. Because heās not much better.ā And those were the only boyfriends of Avery sheād ever known. Though she did likeĀ āTwoine more⦠He just needed to grow up at least a little to be with Avery. Didnāt he?
āā Barryās abs are hot..ā Mary Kate conceded,Ā ābut Ciscoās⦠Cute. Thereās just more of a quirky quality to him, is it so wrong not to be attracted to that part? Or m I falling into a stereotype of only liking hot nerds with six packs?ā Really, she was just falling under Darwinism, it was wrong, but it was also chemical and physical. How would one change that? Now she felt kind of⦠Bad, though, and frowned for a moment.Ā āMaybe I am superficial, but why?ā Thankful for the topic change, she shrugged.Ā āItā not easy, you have to prioritize and focus on making each happen. Itās like sociability math, right? You have to utilize every minute. Know the rules, know when to push, when to pull, when to actually do your homework or make a class, itās a lot more work than we make it look like, and imagine if a lot of us actually put the same amount of effort actually into our schoolwork.ā See? Mary Kate was smart, she just didnāt always show it.Ā āIāve wanted to, but I donāt know much about that Photoshop thing and havenāt made the time to learn when I have other things to prioritize, maybe I should take that class, too.ā Didnāt seem like her type of class, though. Hmm.Ā āRightā¦ā It took her a moment, but she understood.Ā āMaybe you need to look at things differently. Not so analytical. Youāre too in your head, just like Avery,ā the girl hummed as they arrived at one of the campus coffee shops.Ā āReady to go in?ā
Logan wondered, briefly, if there was something wrong with his sisterās friend. He was somewhat used to people talking just to talk, to impress and intimidate other smart students with how smart they were, but this girl rambled on about things that weāre physics or equations. Blinking, he defaulted to what he always did: agreeing. Logan was never really impressed by smarts - well, not boastful smarts. He knew the true geniuses usually kept it to themselves, revealing it by talent than just stating and spewing off facts they knew. Who hadnāt built a robot and wanted to be an engineer, after all?Ā āYouāre welcome?ā he said, but it came out like a question. Was she thanking him for agreeing or for listening? Maybe ZBZ always talked over her. Or maybe Avery treated this girl the way he was treated and never let her talk? He wasnāt sure, but he didnāt have long to ponder it as she flared up again and he was lost in the incessant rants that seemed to go a hundred miles per second.
āBut whatās the point of standing by Bill - I mean Derek? What does she get out of it? Surely there are lots of other rich guys crawling this campus, she can find another.ā At the mention of Antoine, Logan stopped. His sister and āTwoine, who hours before he saw chugging a case of beer? His sister and him were a thing? Then he laughed. Clutching his sides, he barely held himself up as he began to shake with laughter.Ā āMy sister would never date Antoine,ā he laughed.Ā āThat was a good one. Avery thinks Kappa Tau is garbage. Sheād date garbage before touching the door handle,ā he said laughing again.
His face reddened a bit. He personally identified with Cisco, but didnāt allow himself to read too much into this tangent. She was just talking, and half of what she said made little to no sense, but it was hard to let it wash over him, even when he knew that his chances with a girl like her were .0000000000000001 to a trillion - maybe even a zillion.Ā āItās fine to like whatever you like,ā said Logan, even though he was lost in his own little world, trying to make sense of who she was. A girl who liked modern culture, but also super heroes, who looked like a runway model, but also said things likeĀ āsociability mathā... Maybe she was some runaway nerdās imaginary girlfriend come to life and decided she deserved better. Thatād be a cool idea for an anime, he thought briefly.Ā āItās just... hard. I donāt want to let them down, because they took a chance on me, but I also canāt fail. I feel like a loser still, but in a new setting, and this time I have friends to lose.ā She was rubbing off on him, and the slip up made him blush, but he couldnāt take it back as he shoved his hands into the pockets of his hoodie and looked away.Ā āI feel like Iām burning too many candles, and I just... I donāt know what to prioritize. I want to experience everything, but I canāt. The program isnāt too hard, but it also is... I just need a time turner.ā He grinned,Ā āYeah, a piechart could work!ā He knew the guys would rag on him if they found it, but he did need to plan it out - he needed to see it. This new experience was just a new equation, and he just had to work it out and solve it. He grinned. The Nelsons were full of analytical thinkers, Avery was the only extravert he believed.Ā āThanks?ā Going inside, he felt insecure suddenly. Being beside her, he was worried, but looked up at the menu board and tried not to focus on it. But he should pay, he knew he should. But would she think it was him thinking it was a date? He knew it wasnāt a date! But he couldnāt stand there and watch her pay! But what if she got upset? And why was he doing this to himself? He ordered a coffee, shaking as he pulled out his wallet and gestured unsmoothly for Mary Kate to order as he handed the cashier his card, though they seemed bored and annoyed with the stuttering and dramatics and waited for Mary Kate to order.
