One moment, they were seated in the grand lecture hall, listening to Vector Prime speak of time’s relativity— how it bent and stretched in the quiet elegance of physics.
The next, a blinding flash swallowed the room whole.
The landing was violent— an ungraceful tangle of limbs and momentum, their frames colliding with metal carts brimming with mining equipment. The crash rang in D-16’s audials, a discordant echo that rattled through plating and struts. Comfort was not in the cards; pain, however, arrived promptly.
D-16’s vision steadied just enough to catch a familiar blue helm rising from the wreckage, and for a brief, white-hot instant, half his mind entertained the thought of throttling his dear friend. The other half was still scrambling to assemble its bearings.
“You fragging idiot!” he snapped, voice sharp enough to cut through the ringing in his own head. “Professor Vector literally said not to touch the display!”
Orion groaned, the sound low and pained, as if the impact had rattled his processor loose. His hand rose instinctively to the back of his helm— likely the point of contact.
“And you’ve been in enough of Prof Mega's Ethics lectures to know,” Orion muttered, a wry smile just ghosting at the corner of his lips, “that if someone tells me no, I’m more likely to do it.”
With a grunt, D-16 clambered out of the chaotic heap, his pedes meeting the floor with an inelegant thud. The world still pitched slightly around him— spinning in slow, stubborn circles.
“I really need a new best friend,” he deadpanned, rubbing at the bridge of his nose.
“And then you’d complain about being bored,” Orion shot back without missing a beat. “Pick one.”
The jab landed as easily as breathing. D-16 chose not to dignify it with an answer, though the faint twitch at the corner of his mouth betrayed him. Somewhere in the back of his mind, however, one pressing question lingered—
What in the Well just happened?
*D looked over at the newcomers, having been in the middle of one of his chores. He blinked and stared at them with surprise before finally speaking.*
HOW DID YOU GET HERE?! AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!
(Sorry for the long wait, life has been nuts)
