In case you haven’t heard already, Fathom Events is hosting a nationwide showing of a proshot Broadway musical from the 2017 season!

BANDSTAND, a New Musical

winning the Tony Award for Best Choreography (done by none other than Hamilton’s Andy Blankenbuehler)

and starring Corey Cott (Newsies, Gigi)

and Laura Osnes (Cinderella, Bonnie and Clyde, Anything Goes)

will be IN MOVIE THEATERS on June 25th and June 28th.

We all know most musicals don’t get filmed, and the filming that does happen is seldomly released to the public. This special event is something we should all be celebrating!

Don’t know what Bandstand is all about?

It’s a jazz/swing genre production telling the story of veterans after World War II, coming home to face the new battle of living after the battles and trenches - and with the country too busy celebrating victory, they might be facing it alone. Bandstand makes Broadway history by being the first and only show to date to be GotYour6 certified for its accuracy in portraying military experiences and characters.

The film showing is “to be treated as PG13” for language, humor that may be inappropriate to some/younger viewers, and depictions of wartime violence and PTSD.

Please go see Bandstand. At least consider it, if not for the love the show absolutely deserves (one of my favorite shows ever ngl), then for the importance of showing The American Theatre Wing and others that this is what we want, and we will support these productions, and we want them to keep doing them. (Btw, this one was pretty much solely funded and produced by the show’s creators, bless them for wanting to preserve this show and make it available to a wider audience.)

You stared down at the pregnancy test. Positive. Tears of joy filled your eyes. You had to tell Race. You reached for the handle and then paused. Just telling him would be too easy. So you decided you would make it a game: two lies and a truth. With water balloons.

You took a bucket and a pack of water balloons and went to the back yard to get to work. You filled up the balloons and put them in the bucket, then pulled two chairs into the grass.

Race was laying on the couch reading a book when you came in. You tapped him on the shoulder and he looked up.

“Race, come on. We’re gonna play a game.”

He sat up and set his book down on the coffee table. “What?”

“Just come on. I’ll show you in a second.” You grabbed Race’s hand and pulled him into the backyard.

You sat down in one of the chairs and Race sat down across from you. “So now will you explain what we’re doing?”

“We’re playing two lies and a truth. If you get it wrong, the person gets to hit you with a water balloon. You have two chances to get it right. Got it? You go first.”

“Okay, uh…” Race folded his hands. “My zodiac sign is Aquarius, I own six pairs of the same shoe, or I started tap when I was seven.”

You pondered it for a second. “The truth one is that you started tap when you were seven.”

Race picked up a water balloon and popped it over your head. You squealed at how cold the water was. “Nope. Try again. It’s so obvious.” He smirked.

“Um… You own six pairs of the same shoes?”

“Yep, that’s the truth. Six pairs of converse, obviously different colors.”

You sighed. “Okay, my turn. I’ve never been out of the country, I’m pregnant, or I’m allergic to walnuts.” You smirked and sat back, knowing he was stumped.

“Jesus, (Y/N)… These are way too hard.” Race laughed.

“Just take a wild guess.”

“Okay… The truth is that you’re allergic to walnuts?” Race said.

You took a water balloon and popped it over his head. His shirt clung to his chest, outlining his muscles. What a sight. “Ah, dammit.” He laughed. “Lemme try again. I’m gonna guess the more logical one, that you’ve never been out of country.”

You smiled and took another water balloon. You popped it and as the water ran down his face, his expression changed.

“Then that means… Oh my God. Oh my God! No way. You’re pregnant?” Race gasped.

You bit your lip and nodded your head. Race leaned forward and embraced you. He let go and you saw tears of joy in his eyes.

“That means… I’m gonna be a dad! This is the best day of my life!” Race laughed and embraced you again.

When Jared didn’t reply, you went to get yourself a snack. When you came back to your phone, your mouth when agape. 20 new texts. All from Jared. You unlocked your phone, and you saw texts that all looked like this:

Jared: Your eyes. Like, have you looked at them? I never thought e/c eyes were that great, but for some reason they look great on you. Maybe it’s the way they look adorable when you’re squinting to focus on something.

Jared: Your voice. Fuck…I could just listen to a record of it and I’ll be relax. You talking is my own personal symphony.

The rest of the texts said simple things like that, about your hair, your lips, everything. The final text explained that this is the type of stuff he likes to read when he’s insecure, so he hoped it might help you.

this is also very different from what i usually write ??? enjoy 

all you could remember was a loud explosion. you were in the middle of the street, ears ringing. you could barely sit up, let alone bring yourself to your feet. you didn’t know what was going on. you could see red and blue lights, but you couldn’t hear the sirens. you watched as people shouted, ran, and even trip.

you laid in the street, looking to the sky. you were walking home from your weekly date with race, and that’s all you could remember. race. where was he? was he okay?

your hearing came back all at once. people were screaming, sirens were and alarms were going off, and you could hear a fire crackling.

“oh, holy shit,” you muttered as you quickly sat up, a wave a nausea hit, almost causing you to fall. slowly, you made it to your feet. pain hit you almost everywhere. your head was pounding, your chest was tight, and your sides hurt like hell.

you scanned the immediate area slowly. a bomb of some kind definitely went off somewhere around here, but a toddler could have figured that out. only one building was still on fire, the restaurant you and race had walked out of. the sight made you sick to your stomach.

- his hands are always in your hair ???? when he just loves how soft it is

“I’m never buying Ikea furniture again.”

You always saw you and Race’s relationship as a pretty simple yet unique one. You both enjoyed painless date nights consisting of late night couch cuddles or talking about your futures out on the fire escape while eating lukewarm pizza. Nonetheless, there were layers of your relationship that made the little things the most special, like the fact that Race eats his gummy bears by color or you sleep in his shirts.

But never in your 3 years of dating did you think you would be in this position. Race was sitting on the living room rug with his legs crossed, a hoard of wooden planks and tiny screws surrounding him. He sighed and leaned back on his hands, a sour look on his face. The structure that stood in front of him looked more like a piece of modern art than a TV stand.

“There has to be instructions-” You begun.

“I swear to you, I did everything exactly as they said. I reread them 3 times!” Race desperately cried.

You breathed a defeated sigh and laughed tiredly.

“Y/N I adore your grandma, but how in the world did she look at us and think ‘Oh, I should get them an Ikea gift card!’?” He questioned, using a high pitched voice to impersonate your grandmother.

You giggled behind your hand, which was clamped over your mouth, and squatted down next to him. You grabbed hold of the instructions and began to read.

“Enter screw one into the right side corner of panel 3…” You paused for a second as you tried to comprehend the whole paragraph. “What?”

“Exactly!” He huffed. “I’m never buying Ikea furniture again.”

You threw the booklet across the room and fell back into your butt. You started to pick and play with the screws that sat at your feet. Race watched you as you began to organize them, your tongue sticking out a little at the corner of your mouth.

“I know this is like, a horrible time to say this, but I really do love you.”

“Race, we’re sitting on the floor of our dinky Manhattan apartment trying to assemble a 15 dollar TV stand. What made you say that?”

“You.”

Your cheeks begun to heat up as you looked into those electric blue eyes. He gently kissed you and leaned his forehead against yours.

“And if it makes any difference,” He started.

“Hmm?”

“There’s no one I’d rather build a cheap wooden platform with.”

A/n: Sorry that is been so long since I’ve posted any writing. It’s been a pretty hectic month. And I wrote this at like 2 in the morning, so it may be awful. Also, I got inspiration for this fic really late last night after a conversation I had with my boyfriend. So, the entire conversation actually happened (that may not really matter but oh well)

It had been a long, exhausting day of selling and it didn’t help that you were in the midst of summer in Manhattan or that you were feeling completely awful about yourself.

Selling had taken a lot longer than it usually had due to the heat and all you wanted to do was go back to the lodge and to take a nap, if you were even able to get home before Snyder and his goons came out looking for children on the street.

When you got back to the lodge, you saw your boyfriend of nearly two years, Racetrack Higgins, sitting in your bunk. He greeted you like he always did, and after returning it with a brief hello, you headed straight into the bathroom.

You weren’t exactly sure why you went in, but as soon as you saw yourself in the mirror, you broke down into tears. All that you hoped was that no one could hear your quiet sobs as you tried to regain your composure.

You were completely and utterly ashamed of yourself. You had no clue why though. A few months ago, you were the happiest person in the lodge and you could even get the Delancys to crack a smile every now and then. Although recently, you just felt completely empty.

After finally looking like you hadn’t just cried, you walked back out of the bathroom over to your bunk. You immediately sat down next to Race and rested your head on his shoulder.

You were sure that he could tell that there was something wrong, but his voice broke you out of all of your thoughts, “I love you so much,” he said.

“Well then, I’m sorry,” you replied with an odd tone in your voice from trying to hold back more tears. This immediately caused him to panic since he knew that your voice only gets strange before you have a breakdown.

He pulled back to look at you with concern written all across his face. “Why?”

“Because I- I’m not deserving of any of this. Not of happiness. Not of love. Not of you and yet, you’re giving it to me. And it’s so hard when I know that I’m just not worth it and I never will be, especially since you deserve the absolute world. I’m just so sorry,” you cried out as he pulled you into a tight hug, while you were sobbing.

“Don’t ever say that. You deserve absolutely everything and I’ll always be here, because without you, my world means nothing. I promise that I’ll always be by your side no matter what as long as you want me here because whether you think you deserve it or not, I love you,” he countered as he gently rocked you back and forth as a way to calm you down. “I just can’t help but wonder why you didn’t tell me about all of this before.”

“I was afraid to I guess,” you admitted. “Not in a bad way, of course, I’m not like, afraid of you. I was just afraid that you would leave me if you knew about all of my thoughts, but now I know that you won’t. And I love you too. So, so much.”

He held onto you even tighter than before as he continued to rock you as you relaxed. You eventually fell asleep on his shoulder and he decided that if he could freeze this moment and remember it forever, he most definitely would.

You floated around your kitchen and prepared the hundreds of sandwhiches you had roped yourself into making. After setting out the plates of food along your families dining table, along with the pitcher of lemonade you had promised, you began to clean up the wide mess you had made. Before you could fully finish, the pounding on your door made you stow away from your duties. You folded the rag you were using and threw it onto the open counter when another harsh few knocks were thrown against the wooden door.

You pressed your lips together and hurried to the entryway to spare any more damage to your front door. Your smoothed your skirt and slowly creaked the door open to see an antsy, and very red, Race.

“Race, I thought the guys weren’t supposed to come ‘till 1?” You questioned as your boyfriend gently pushed passed you.

“They are, I just finished selling early,” He confessed.

You were about to say something else before he turned to you and removed his sweaty newsboy cap to reveal his near crimson face. Your jaw fell at the sight of him. His eyes gazed away from you, and if it was possible, his cheeks burned a shade of even deeper red.

You covered your mouth with your hand as a smile crept on to your lips. You couldn’t hold back a giggle as Race tried to defend himself, a small smile on his lips too.

“Look, I tried to follow your advice but there was no shade around! And besides, I couldn’t stop sellin’ papes in the middle of the rush hour!” He whined, throwing his arms around in an exaggerated manner.

“Okay, okay,” You cooed, slightly laughing. “Let’s go get some aloe on that before it gets any worse.”

“I don’t think it can.”

You dragged him to your bathroom and dug through some drawers before pulling out a glass jar. You began to spread the gel onto his burning face, much to his wincing. After his face and arms were covered, you closed the lid again and stowed it back into the drawer.

“Y/N, I don’t know ‘bout this stuff. It’s sticky and cold and you know the boys are gonna ring me out for having this on me.”

“You’re going to be fine,” You assured. “They probably won’t even notice.”

You heard the chatter of boys outside your door before the knocking ensued. You heard Race sigh behind you as you made your way to the entryway

“They’re gonna make fun of me,” He complained again.

“To be honest,” You paused before opening the door, “I’d make fun of you too.”

Race rolled his eyes as he stiffly moved around.

“I can’t stand you, you know that?” He smiled.

“And I love you.”

“Remind me why I’m doing this again?” Katherine asked in a tired tone.

Davey ruffled her hair, “Because you’re not smart like me.”

“Davey Jacobs,” I plopped down in front of him. “ You are not smart. You’re just boring.”

“Just because I don’t want to play a stupid game at a high school party doesn’t mean I’m boring,” he retorted.

“David,” I shushed him. “Honestly, ya need to have some fun. Let yourself enjoy something for once.” I turned to the growing circle as Davey tried to defend himself.

There were nearly twenty people gathered around the circle by now. Because Race was in theater he invited his many friends from there and some others (like me) who didn’t even know how we became friends.

“Who’s going first?” Race asked loudly, “Wait, don’t answer that I’ll choose.”

The liquid, no doubt alcohol, in Race’s plastic cup splashed out into the carpet, staining it.

“Racer,” I called out, “we can’t play if there’s no bottle, it’s in the title, idiot.”

Race rolled his eyes, “I didn’t have to invite you, y'know.”

I grinned, “Aww, you know you love me.”

Race rolled his eyes as he sat down hard on the floor. Right on the spot where he spilled his drink. What an idiot.

“Just for that you have to go first,” Race pointed right at me.

I shrugged, taking the bottle and spinning. I sat back as it spun in circles. It finally slowed and stopped. It was pointing and one of Race’s theater friends. I think his name was Romeo.

I shrugged and leaned into the middle of the circle. The kid’s face was tinged with pink. I grabbed his face and pressed my lips to his.

I smirked slightly as I pulled back, and looked at Race, “Was that enough entertainment for you?”

Race glared at me, “I don’t like you.”

I stuck my tongue out at him, “Ditto.”

The game continued, getting progressively more boring, especially when Katherine flat out refused to kiss Jack.

By the time someone had landed on me, I had begun chatting with Davey, who was still sitting behind me. I had turned completely around and was ignoring the game behind me.

“Y\N!” I heard Race’s annoying voice yell.

“What?” I turned around.

“Albert is waiting for you.”

I turned to face Albert, a cute red head who was actually my friend too. I rolled my eyes and scooted towards Albert.

Before Race could get anymore annoying, I took Albert’s hands and kissed him. It was a pleasant feeling, he obviously wasn’t as nervous as the kid before.

We broke apart, both of us smiling slightly.

“You’re cute,” I ruffled his vibrant hair.

“Thanks,” he licked his lips, “you too.”

Then, Race had to ruin it, “Just get married already!”
