I think the dmcl writers left the fandom. I checked the Ao3 tag and if you filter by date updated, we’ve had no new Dimiclaude fics this year thus far. Of course, the year is still young, but notably, Dmcl is the only pairing in the top 10 with no new fics thus far. That’s telling. What happened? What is it about Dimiclaude that people have just… stopped creating for them? At this point, it’s the only pairing in the top 10 that people really aren’t creating for anymore. Why? This hurts fascinates me, as it implies that other pairings have something that dmcl lacks — or maybe dmcl has something that the others lack — which can’t maintain interest. That also feeds into my previous comment about the lack of any new dmcl events besides the annual week in July. Has the fandom truly died? Has everyone just… moved on? If so, why?

Yeah, this inspired me to write something so

Hi-Fi Stadium burned like sunlight against the night, rising from the heart of Nuvelle. Seventy thousand voices thundered in unison, then hushed to hear the lone figure on stage belt at the piano, a single spotlight illuminating his frame.

Constance watches the sky above…

She told me ‘Ferdie, with Sothis, there’s no loneliness’…

As his fingers danced across the keys, Ferdie couldn’t help the tidal wave of emotion.

“I… I’m so terribly sorry…” he mumbled into the mic, tears beginning to roll down his cheeks as he tried to compose himself. “I shouldn’t… not here…” He continued playing, slower, as he lowered his head sniffling, willing the tears to stop. This was a mistake. He thought he could do this, thought he should do this. But Constance’s death was still too fresh, too raw. He made no announcement, but he knew his fans—his dedicated, wonderful Flamers—would surely figure this out before long, the sleuths they were. The response was thunderous:

“We love you Ferdie!”

“You’re amazing, Ferdie!”

“Mother’s crying?? Is she okay?”

“AHHHH!”

“I’ve no idea what has come over me… it’s ignoble of me to cry like this in front of all of you,” he chuckled weakly into the mic.

The screams intensified further.

“It’s okay!”

“Feel your feelings, mama!” “We love you! We’re here for you!” He took a deep breath. His hands, which had stopped playing and retreated into his lap, returned to the keys.

These fans paid so much for this show, he thought. I must see it through.

“I… Must apologise,” Ferdie said after a moment. “A lot… Has happened. And performing here… In Nuvelle… Reminds me of that.”

As he resumed playing, he took another breath and belted his next phrase.
