As Donald went on about his thoughts, Daveed couldn’t help but get lost in his own. What was it about him that made him so irritated? Clearly his cocky demeanor had dwindled at this point, right now it seemed as if he was speaking to Donald and not Gambino. The cocky ‘I’m better than you’ personality was now washed away, and yet Daveed still didn’t entirely buy it. Part of him wanted to keep scratching away at Donald’s surface to see what else he had been hiding but another part of him was genuinely enjoying this vulnerability that came from him as well. Perhaps he just needed some sort of trigger word to make him realize exactly why Diggs had never been so fond of him. He hesitated for a moment, shifting his weight anxiously “Nah, but for real man -- it’s long overdue but congratulations on that Lando role. I’d love to say I went to go see it, but I never got around to it. Heard it was great though.” Okay, so maybe that was a lie as well. Daveed hadn’t really heard anything of it, because in many ways he just refused to. He knew the film did well because he knew Donald absolutely destroyed whatever he was in. “I get it though, you work a lot. Shit, I was surprised to even see you out that night.” Daveed confessed, raising his brows as he finished the rest of his drink and set it off to the side now. Any more drinking at this point just seemed dangerous.
What made Donald infuriating to begin with had been the fact that Daveed had been asked about him so frequently based on how similar they had been alone. What do you think of Gambino? Have you heard about everyone fan-casting Donald Glover as Lafayette? Would you ever consider a collab with Childish Gambino on the next Clipping album? It was non-stop. “No, yeah. I can definitely relate...No matter what project I’m working on, I’m still working on music on the side.” he explained, lost in thought for a moment. Donald wasn’t as bad as he thought, in fact, he was downright tolerable. It made him annoyed to even consider the thought but Donald just wasn’t an awful guy. The air he had given him was all in his own mind and really it just started with the loss of a role. “Man, just be appreciative that people actually listen to your shit. I still get questions about the show I did.” he muttered into his drink, at this point not even wanting to mention the name of it.
Just hearing Donald say the name of his band had him feel all sorts of odd. It was a word he never thought he’d hear come out of his mouth. “Yeah, we -- we sort of have this ongoing theme when it comes to horror. Each song is a story.” The man explained, anxiously downing the rest of his drink and clearing his throat. “Oh man.” He paused, dropping his gaze to the ground. This felt like a very strange test. As if whatever he had chosen was going to be the song that Donald could possibly hear first. “I’m really proud of our recent shit. I...shit man, It’s hard to pick a favorite. It’s like a real kid you know?” He laughed nervously, feeling himself ease back into that vulnerable state. At the thought of Donald possibly hearing their work before, it was something that he highly doubted. There was just no way. “Maybe you have and just forgot it, like how you forgot when we met.” Daveed chuckled.
Truly, Daveed didn’t want to be even having this conversation. He didn’t like the idea of being spoken to like some sort of up and coming artist. He had been in this game for too long to be spoken to like he was new. It felt all condescending to him but oddly enough, he knew it wasn’t. Daveed just wanted to think that everything he was hearing was sarcastic when it came from Donald. Really it was just infuriating to hear Donald genuinely be personable and downright likeable. He wasn’t going to entertain that thought in his head. “Oh, word? What’s it called? I’m surprised I haven’t. Usually when you release shit it’s all over the place. You’re Gambino, after all.” The man emphasized, knowing that being known by an alias and only the alias was something that definitely would get under his skin. Really, he only knew because it got under his own skin whenever anyone had done the same to him.
Though at the mention of music, Daveed tried to put himself at ease. He couldn’t be bitter when discussing something he was genuinely passionate about, and he knew Donald felt the same. At least, he thought he may have. “Yeah...! I’ve been making music since I was...shit, since I was like sixteen. I’m in a group called Clipping.” he began, clearing his throat as he stood up just a bit straighter for confidence. “It’s...we make experimental shit, our albums are horror based.” Daveed struggled to explain for a moment, hoping to god he didn’t sound ridiculous at this point. But honestly, why did he care so much what this man thought?
AFTER PARTY VIBES|| F2F Bey and Diggs
Honestly, one of Beys favorite things about movie premieres were the after parties that came with it. You got to celebrate a successful movie, while getting drunk and having fun with your friends.Dreamland was an amazing movie and she couldn’t wait for the party. Besides celebrating the movie, she also couldn’t wait to see her friends, Daveed being the main one she wanted to see.It had been far too long since she had seen her dear friend. The Curly haired man had been so busy as had she and they couldn’t find any time in their schedules to meet up with each other and chat. She hadn’t actually really seen him since her birthday party if her memory served her correctly. So much time had passed since then and she had so much that she needed to tell him. Once she heard that he was attending the after party as well, she knew that she just had to see him. She walked around the venue and smiled as she spotted the curly haired man. “Diggs!” She exclaimed beaming as she gave him a hug. “Sorry I’m late, my boyfriend held me up.” She said blushing. “It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other! How have you been? You’ve got to tell me everything.” She rambled on before noticing his grim expression. “What’s the matter hun?”
@daaveed
Finding a sense of calm after an interaction he had with Glover, Daveed found himself reaching for yet another glass that night. Of course, it wasn’t really as big of a deal as he was making it out to be -- it still seemed to eat away at his mind. He had to continuously remind himself that remembering the night wasn’t really the goal but enjoying himself was. Over the loud music, Daveed could hear a familiar voice calling out his name. Furrowing his brows and turning in the direction in which it came, the actor immediately grinned from ear to ear. “Ayyye!!” he exclaimed, opening up his arms for an embrace. “Girl, don’t even worry about it.” he reassured, giving her frame a gentle squeeze before taking a step back. “Yeah, yeah it’s been a while...” Diggs began, trailing off for a moment until she had asked what had been the matter. For a moment, it had him confused. Was it that obvious he had something on his mind? And what a stupid thing to have on his mind on top of that. “Nah, nothing it’s just...” he began, flickering his gaze up to scan their surroundings as to make sure he hadn’t been near. “Ran into Glover and I just can’t fucking stand that guy you know? He got that vibe to him...”
Daveed wasn’t expecting a drink to be handed to him, nonetheless from Donald himself. He looked at it for a moment and wondered if it really was a good idea. However, at the end of the day, what did it matter? Raising his brows and pursing his lips, Daveed gave a small nod and raised the glass as a silent thank-you. It was the mentioning of not needing publicity that made Daveed want to roll his eyes. Don’t need publicity. As if everything to the man was some sort of stunt for exposure, it was almost comical to think about. Who the fuck did this guy think he was? He was proving exactly his expectations of being just as smug as every other artist in the industry. With the glass to his lips once again, Diggs let out a soft chuckle and gave a small shake of his head. “Nah, I don’t need to be networking. I’m comfortable in my career...” the man paused, licking the liquor off his lips before continuing.
“I don’t really make shit for notoriety or exposure. I kind of just do it because I enjoy it and I’m proud of what I make. That’s why you end up all bitter and pissed when you out cause, you end up thinking it’s all about you and not your work you know?” Raising his shoulder in a small shrug, Daveed quirked a brow and took another swig of his drink. “Maybe it’s just a Bay thing, but we humble hard working people, we ain’t looking for a pat on the back.” With that, Daveed shifted his attention back to the man and forced another smile. “Shit, I’ve actually been busy. Writing and filming my show on Starz, filming Snowpiercer, just released an album not too long ago...” he lingered, doing his best at this point to keep a cool demeanor. “What about you man? Haven’t heard any Gambino in a while...Or maybe I just haven’t heard about it?”
Everything about Donald was infuriating and for a long time, Daveed just couldn’t pinpoint why. You could chalk it all up to just being pure jealousy and anger due to their history but that was at the back of his mind right now. The only thing he could focus on was just how smug and sarcastic the air around Donald felt. Oddly enough, Daveed could only find himself forcing a smile around him. Just the single word of an introduction alone had the man gripping his empty glass tighter. Hey. Of course he would be so short as to just say hey. Quite smug for a film that got a measly 69% on rotten tomatoes, Daveed thought.
It was his following words that made Daveed purse his lips and hold back on losing every bit of cool he had left. He knew that the chances of Donald remembering their brief meeting was slim but something about the look in his eye made Diggs all too aware that he had been lying through his teeth. “Rooftop in Cali about two years back. You were pretty wasted, so you probably don’t remember it honestly.” He muttered, raising his brows and exhaling softly at the compliment he had given him. It was a joke, of course due to the fact their suits had been oddly similar. In his mind he just kept reminding himself he had to be the bigger person, had to pretend that socializing with this man was actually bearable.
“Yeah, I like your choice of the flower to the suit. It reminds me of the suit from Dumb and Dumber – you fly though, you fly. Always killin’ it with the fits, man,” Daveed quickly reassured, forcing another big smile as he took in a breath and flickered his gaze over towards the bar once again. Oh, what he would do, to just have another glass of Hennessey right at that moment. “Surprised to see you here though man, I know you like coming off as some sort of anomaly. Sights of you are rare, right?” Small talk, it would be as easy as just continuing small talk and maybe they’d both run out of things to talk about and go their own ways. Though, with the amount of liquor Daveed already had in his system

Daveed couldn’t really pinpoint what exactly it had been about premiere after parties that made him feel incredibly unsettled. Perhaps it was the flashing lights or the fact it had always been loud to the point you could barely hear your own thoughts. Being here, he knew that in many ways he was also just humoring Emmy. They had spent countless nights at home just settled on the couch and scrolling past their choices on streaming sights; Being out right now just felt necessary. With a glass to his lips, he kept flickered his gaze around the room and searched for familiar faces. It was only after he had finished off his drink and turned to grab another that he spotted Donald across the room. Like a match to a flame, Daveed could feel his mood just plummet. What was he doing here? Who the hell did he know? And why the hell did he decide to wear a blue suit this night? For a moment, he wanted to just turn back around and consider himself done with the bar until Donald had moved but why the hell would he do that? Get the fuck over it, D. It’s been two years. Shrugging off the general disdain he was feeling for this man, he made his way towards the crowd and stopped at the bar. It was impossible not to acknowledge him, especially when he had been speaking with a mutual friend. The moment Daveed made eye contact with said friend, he let out a sigh of defeat. This was definitely when he’d be somehow pulled into a forced interaction with him, of course it was. The man raised a weak hand of acknowledgement and cursed under his breath. “Hey…!” he exclaimed, his voice lacking its usual enthusiasm. Feeling Donald’s gaze on him alone had him wishing he had another drink in his hand, still he forced a smile. “Yeah, yeah we’ve met before.” Here we go. Turning to greet Donald, he gave a small nod of acknowledgement and reached a handout to shake, “What’s up man? Nice to see you.” That was a lie. What had made it even more infuriating was the fact that although they both had been standing there in similar attire, he somehow still looked better than him. Of course he did.
