idk I love Michael Jackson's music and his artistry as a whole but I still can't shake the accusations made against him. one of the things I had to concede as a feminist and Kennedy fangirl is that the Kennedy men treated women HORRIFICALLY. I can take that realization and internalize it while still recognizing the Kennedys' positive impact on my life and the ways in which I have found them to be relatable. I get that Michael Jackson is a culture touchstone. most musicians today are who they are because of Michael Jackson's influence. and I relate to Michael Jackson's childhood and intense sense of loneliness, I really do. but at the end of the day, I need fully grown adults on instagram reels to stop brushing over the fact that multiple children have come out and said that Michael Jackson assaulted them. I need them to stop pretending like everything is a big lie and conspiracy. at the end of the day I will always choose to believe a child who accuses someone of sexual abuse. to dismiss these claims as fabricated might have ground (I don't know) but it creates an atmosphere of shame for kids who try and share their truth.
i can speak for the black community when I say that enabling grown men who are or might be pedophiles (again, I personally am not alleging Michael Jackson did or did not do anything because I really haven't researched enough) is what is preventing toxic familial structures and power systems from being dismantled. take the Michael movie for example. I understand the need to keep the movie pg but the entire family acting like Joseph didn't inflict such pain and suffering on to those little kids irritates the hell out me. YOU CAN HOLD DEAD PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE. time does not excuse everything. the Kennedys are still glorified but at least, today, when women come out and say something about a powerful man, enough people listen. at least people acknowledge the achievements and personal stories of the Kennedys without accepting that their behavior towards women was appropriate. why are we as a society not doing the same for children???? people will try and argue that the Kennedy men (jack and teddy mainly) were born into wealth and privilege unlike Michael was. "that was why their dad had to work them so hard" they say. every single of the Jackson kids achieved something in spite of their dad not because of him. but, to get back to the point, people love to use Michael being a black man as a way to exonerate him for all the accusations. I don't know if anymore cases against him will prosper or what. I think that Michael Jackson's success is one that should continue to be studied and appreciated because it truly is one of a kind but that should NOT erase the unfavorable parts of his life story

only modern kennedy that’s doing right by their chaotic ass ancestral line is jack schlossberg i rest my case …
