Mixed Media Project Final
MIME TIME
This is the final outcome.
Self-reflection: Even though I was late for this project and had to join other group, it went really well. Sadly, I was not there from the start but the whole animation creation process was kind of abstract, so we have just created the events in the story as we animated. Most of the animation was made the day I came, so I had an opportunity to take part in each scene, as an animator or as an assistant to other group members. I have animated the abstract stop-motion "head-cracking" and "thread sea" scene with Henry. It was really experimental, and we just did anything that popped up to our minds. We had loads of ideas for the transition from this scene to the next one but because of the amount of time we had we needed to find an easier way to figure it out. After that I was helping Kiran and Daniel with the final scene, where the main character encounters the comb and the cow. While working, we have shared ideas what could be better and what would look good in animation. As it is Mixed Media Project, we have decided to put digital animation as well, so the following morning I have animated the 2D comb flying/playing around the puppet. It was great that I have managed to finish it on time.
All in all, I think everyone in our group did some great work, everyone was helpful to each other, distributed the load of work evenly, worked as a team, so all the effort that was put into this animation have created a nice outcome. I think we have proved ourselves that even in this short amount of time we can make some great things.

Obstacle Course Project. Work In Progress.
This is the progress of my animation on Obstacle Course Project to show at the crit. So far I finished creating the background environment/obstacles. It really took me a while as this was my first time creating something like that in a 3D space in After Effects. Especially hard was figuring out the camera movement. Well, it was tough at first because I had to redo it a few times after messing up. But I figured it out and learnt from my mistakes. As for the animation itself I roughly drew some frames just to see how it is going to look, and test the perspective. I'm definitely going to finish it!
Obstacle Course Project Character design
I character I have created for my Obstacle Course. It is not finished so many details could be changed; added or deleted. This is just a base what I would want to animate in my Obstacle Course.
Obstacle Course Project Sketches
Here are some sketches and ideas for the Obstacle Course Project.
Obstacle Course Project Background test.
I have decided to try and create a 3D background in after effects (which is basically “2.5D”). I have never done that before, so I had some difficulties at first. But later on I found out and learned a lot of things during the creating process. This test is to get a sense of what the background is going to look like.

Obstacle Course Project Reference
I was really excited about this project, and almost instantly I had parkour obstacles in mind. I felt like I should try make the most of this project and started to watch tons of videos for inspiration. I was always interested in freerun and parkour and I love doing it myself. So understanding of the movement when overcoming obstacles was already in my mind. I just needed some references for better angles and nicer shots. Parkour origins comes from France. I was always admired of the rooftops in Paris. That’s why I chose it for my animation as inspiration. (Well, if I can’t do it in Paris at the moment, at least I can animate it!)
Quadruped Project Final.
The finished animation of idle to walk, walk to run and run to idle. During this project I found out a lot of useful information about canines and really improved my animating skills on a quadruped walk cycles. Observing, understanding and conveying the movement to animation was not easy but I am happy about the outcome.
Quadruped Project: Dog Skeleton
I have really enjoyed this part of the project, it was nice to observe and analyse the skeleton of a canine. It was really useful for my understanding of a dog body structure. That made it a bit easier later on when I started working on my animation.
Quadruped Project
Photoshop sketches of a canine run cycle. I drew these key frames while observing a video clip, just to see the high and low points of the head, body and legs while dog is running.

Quadruped Project Reference
During this project I watched tons of videos about a lot of animals but in the end I have decided to stick with canines. This video in particular was the most helpful to understand the movement of a dog.
Weight Project Final
This is my final animation for Weight Project. During this project I understood how important is weight in animation and how much of charm it can give to an animated character. Exercises are made in 3 different animating styles; hand-drawn traditional, stop-motion and digital 2D. The main idea was to see how different it is to animate and present the feeling of weight in each animation. Of course, each technique has its advantages and disadvantages compared to one another.
LIFT PUSH PULL project test. (Only lift and push)
My attempt on Weight Project - lift and push. I have tried to exaggerate the movement, find the right key frames and do one part of the exercise in stop-motion animation. I have done a few tests to see how it works.
Weight project references.
For the weight project, I studied motion and movement from the video clips, that we have filmed ourselves lifting, pushing and pulling boxes. Not only I tried to learn while observing, but also I have done all those things myself to better understand what I will be animating.
