올해 첫 바다바깥. 나이가 드니 추운거보다는 더운것이 낫더라. 32도의 공기와 함께 서있는 크리스마스트리는 기대했던것보다 더 낯설었다. 말레이 학생들은 참 똘망똘망. 워크샵 지켜보면서 의욕이 솟는건 정말 오랜만.

오랜만에, 참 뒤늦게, 큰 고민없이 빵빵 터지는 영화 한편 감상했다. <Guardians of the Galaxy>. 그 절정은 영화 최후반부 항거할 수 없는 수퍼빌런 로난에 대항하여 스타로드가 실행한 섹시코만도 어택…에서 그 공격을 당한 후 로난이 대사칠 때의 디테일. “(입술을 떨면서!!) What are you doing??” ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

말 한마디없이, 혹은 한마디로 캐릭터의 감정을 풍부하게 전달할 수 있다는 사실은 새삼 놀랍다. 심지어 인간이 아닌 캐릭터임에도!! 이미 wall-E에서 wall-E의 경우도 그랬지만 이번 그루트의 경우에서도. 헐리웃은 정말 비인간형 캐릭터의 시각적 감정전달에 도가 튼듯.

그런데 마블영화에서 늘 불만인건 각 배경세계의 무력투사집단이 너무 약하다는것. 주인공의 비중을 높이기위해서라고는 이해되지만 아무리 그래도 각 태양계를 영역으로 삼은 두 문명집단의 분쟁상황에서 벌어진 사건인데 일개 용병단보다도 못한 행성정부의 방어병력이라니… 설정덕후에게는 불만.

시간이 애매해서 오늘은 그냥 전시 스케치. 비디오아트 작업을 보는 환경은 계속 좋아진다. HD 프로젝터는 기본에 곡면티비까지! 근데 그들이 이야기하는 테크놀로지는 용도 그대로의 그것. 그만큼 대세라는 거겠지.

어느새 서라운드 스크린이 대세?  근데 이런 작품들을 가장 효율적으로 관람하는 방법은 뭘까. 하나씩 보자니 연결이 힘들고, 번갈아가면서 보자니 고개가 아프다.ㅠㅠ

세계에 몇 없는 테크놀로지 아트 행사가 없어져 슬프다. 아직 미디어시티라는 이름이 사라지지는 않았지만 지금의 모습을 봐서는 그다지 의미가 있지는 않을 것 같다. 직영으로 바뀌었고 주최측의 의지도 뚜렷하니 그냥 세마 비엔날레로 가고 미디어시티라는 이름은 떼어버리는 것이 나을듯. 그들 말처럼 이제 누구나 동영상 정도는 하니까.

요즈음 디자인의 화두이다.  역시나 애플이 괜히 애플이 아니랄까봐 아이폰6시리즈 발표에서 사용함을 통해 주목도가 굉장히 높아졌다. bit라는 분절이 정체성인 디지털, 그것이 우리 주위를 뒤덮은 디지털 환경의 핵심인 UI, UX 의 가장 뜨거운 화두가 바로 이 seamlessly라니 아이러니하면서도 굉장히 의미심장하다.

선댄스 영화제

세계에서 가장 큰 독립영화제. 로버트 래드포드가 주축이 되어 설립했고 매해 1월 20일, 미국 유타주의 시티파크에서 열린다.

영화제 부분중의 하나인 뉴 프런티어 프로젝트에서는 융합공연, 미디어 설치,  트랜스미디어 관련실험을 선보이는 전시 행사이다.

이번 선댄스 영화제에서 공개될 오큘러스 리프트 기반의 게임<eve:  Valkyrie>과 다큐멘터리 <Cloud> 많이 기대된다.
