Fun fact I started my art business in late 2017/early 2018 and originally it was all selkie themed! Then I changed it to be generally themed around one of my fursonas since nobody knew what my theme was supposed to be since not a lot of people knew of the selkie legend before seals and sea lions blew up in popularity online. I had a lot of people look at me funny when I explained what they were or thought I made them up. But now that selkies are getting the recognition they deserve and wanting to pay homage to something that I held dear to my heart whilst growing up thanks to my grandma telling me about the seal people since I've always had a draw towards the ocean I have been recently going back to my roots to throw my seals at the world 🦭

There's something strange about the kintype I feel most massively lately.

I am a unicorn, but in a fae way. Does that make sense? I have hooves, but two legs. I have a horn, but I have long, human-like hair. I have a snout, but it's blunt. It's confusing. My ears are large, not at all like that of a horse's.

I find myself in passing also relating heavily to the folklore imagery of foxes, but as tricksters and shapeshifters- not the animal. It is this reason that I think it's related to the fae-ness. The more I dwell on it the more I find some other layer of my kinning related to it. It's possible my selkie-ness is connected to this as well.

I am still very much a rabbit though. The animal, that is.

Once you stop defining your therianthropy in measures of dysphoria and focus on what brings you fulfillment as an animal, you start caring a lot less about where other people fall on the chosen kintype vs involuntary kintype axis. It opens you up to instead start caring about how people engage with their kintype, and what experiences it brings, which I think are far more valuable.

I think it depends on how you think about your type. for me, my dovekin is very soft and ethereal so I may pick lavender or vanilla scents. however, I associate fall aesthetics with my foxkin. so I'd be more likely to get apple, pumpkin, cedar or spice scents for it !

the strawberries scents r nice for my dovekin, mousekin, bunnykin and red pandakin !! as mentioned, I like the apple for my foxkin and the vanilla for my dovekin.

I clearly prefer sweet and feminine scents but if I were to I would pick a cedar, tobacco and/or leather scent for my wolfkin ! I would also love a salty ocean sent for my otterkin :]]

(( I used to work at PINK so that's why I have several of their scents. I do recommend their lotion and body spray !! their body sprays specifically stick to clothes for days ^^ ))

tldr I suppose I would go with a mix of what aesthetic you associate with your kin with and their natural habitat. I also like that bunnies eat strawberries, so I pick a light soft strawberry scent. ykwim ? I really enjoy bringing my kintypes into my self expression in subtle ways ^^
