Hi! I’m Dino (short for dinoflagellate, but if you like dinosaurs then that too!), and I’m a leopard seal. Or to be more specific, a Selkie. I don’t really like using terms such as “kin” or “therian” because I’m just a leopard seal, that’s it. I’m a Selkie stuck in my human form, and I’m searching for my sealskin. I’m pretty sure that I’m also every other pinniped species and everything to do with the ocean itself all at once, but it’s all embodied into one tiny leopard seal-shaped vessel. I use any pronouns, and I don’t mind if you refer to me as human or not. I’ll occasionally use seal terms for myself (flipper, snout, whiskers, blubber, etc.) when I feel like it.

I’m a HUGE seal nerd. I love all pinniped species, but I'm biased towards true (earless) seals. I also really love anything marine/aquatic related—and Selkies of course, everything to do with them! Like I cannot overstate this enough I LOVE seals and Selkies.

This account is used for talking about my experiences and feelings as a leopard seal Selkie, posting and reposting seal/ocean related creations I like or that I’ve made, and general marine things. If your account is about that too, I’ll follow you, but please don’t take it personally if I unfollow. It’s just me curating what I want to see, which is stuff related to this account.

Being chronically ill, I will also sometimes post about that and how it affects my identity, but it won’t be very often. It will however sometimes be very graphic, but it’s not my job to sanitise my own suffering for you, so if you don’t want to see it, press not interested and move on.

Have not been having a good time recently and have not been feeling well but i went back out to the ledges at the end of the bay today and the sun was warm and the water was cold and i found a blue starfish💙⭐️that was pretty cool

Am I the only one that feels like selkie skins or coats aren't normal skins, like. Let me explain cause I sound silly right now.

I feel like selkie skins aren't just one shape, they can mold the to body of the wearer, they can shape down or larger depending on the species or weither the wearer has changed. They change styles, unlike clothes where you have to unsew and resew new seams, a selkies skin can just, shape and reform them as you change and grow. Maybe from more of a cape to a shawl or to a gown or even to more of a genuine "coat" or something like a pelt.

Maybe I sound silly. I dunnoe.

dreamed of the sea last night again. I was swimming and though i couldnt hold my breath as long as i could irl i swam over rocks at the beach i usually to go and there were fish around me. Kickstarted the longing again, maybe i’ll go swimming soon.

How Wolfy is the Nonhuman Community?

It is something that is quite often repeated in therian spaces is the abundance of wolves in particular. Rather than doing the methode where a bunch of species are listed I am curious how close the community on average is to wolf.

Please select the closest common clade. If you do not have a nonhuman identity, please select the bottom result if you wish to see the results to avoid skewing the information. If you have multiple types select the closest (or most significant depending on your desire). If your type is not classified such as theriomythics, please select the Other option. Am going to make a DIY Selkie tailskin that I can use with my short fins 🦭🩶

Found all the ingredients in under 20 minutes and as a result I think I’ll be able to make a tailskin for under $50 🥹

Basically what I’ll be doing is buying some off white neoprene, then some fabric spray paints (very light grey, dark grey, and black - for seal molting and spots)

Honestly I’m glad I’m a largha seal because our spots are much simpler than a harbor seals for the most part lol

✧ - The Leopard Seal is the second largest species of Seal found in the Antarctic. Female leopard seals grow to about 3,5 meters while males are smaller, 2,8 meters. It is a top order predator, feeding on a wide range of pray including krill, fish, cephalopods, birds, most famously penguins and sometimes even other seals. Their only natural predator is the orca (killer whale)

Been swimming at the reservoir a few times a week 🦭

I’d go every day, but I get so exhausted trying to load the car, drive, and just organize the trip - even though the water is only 20 minutes away, it really wears me out. Gravity, 80-100 degree heat and hypovolemic POTS don’t mix

So I’m trying to go every other day, or even if it’s just twice a week. The important part is being in the water for me, because that’s how I’m able to exercise. I don’t overheat, I can swim for hours, and I have the space I need to move around and dive as deep as I can

Honestly wish I just lived in a house beside the lake because then I could swim every day easily because I wouldn’t need to travel and that would conserve my energy. Also living by the water would be a lot better for my overall health because it’s cooler there even though it’s inland
