@daewonrv
“i don’t have a lot of time to teach you this choreography, so i need you to really pay attention, okay?” daewon said firmly, adjusting his hat and crossing his arms. “you film your music video tomorrow. we need to get this done today.”
“can you watch this for a second? i need a second set of eyes,” daewon asked, pushing his hair out of his face, and looking over at his mentor. “it’s been a while since i’ve choreographed for a girl group. i kind of don’t know what i’m doing, frankly.” @jangbyulrv
“i mean, i’m proud of you and your group, and you guys getting more popular and all, but i’m going to miss you,” daewon admitted with a little frown. “that’s a long ass tour in china. i’m not going to be able to see you for almost a month...” @rvquin
“when is your brother’s birthday?” daewon asked, gently grabbing hoa’s arm to keep her from walking, and breathing hard-- he had sprinted down the hall to catch up with her, and was absolutely out of breath. “it’s important. i need to know.” @rvhope
rvhope:
“the overprotective brother is such a tired trope. i’m the overprotective sister.”
“well, from what i understand, it’s warranted,” daewon answered seriously. “and i would hate to add to that turmoil. you have my word, i’ll be the best partner i can be.”
rvquin:
“oh, that big white guy, right? looks like a bodybuilder? i feel like i saw him on set for idol project once or twice. didn’t realized they were together, though– thought it was someone’s security detail, but that makes so much more sense.”
daewon bit back a laugh. “yeah, that guy. i mean, technically he is security detail-- he just does security for spotlight. so you weren’t far off. they’re a good pair though, i think...”
rvliyang:
“more individual than an international super-group? okay, yeah. on my way to go work on that,” she retorted sarcastically
“people don’t care about the concepts. they care about the idols. you could have a cool concept with just robots, and it won’t take off, because people have nothing to get attached to,” daewon told her, gently patting her arm. “i’m not saying to pretend to be something you’re not but...lighten up a little. give people a reason to want to watch you.”
rvhope:
“see, this wasn’t weird, and then you had to go and make it weird,” she sighed dramatically, rolling her eyes and laughing. “my brother’s not allowed to date a weirdo. you better shape up.”
“hey, i just made an observation!” he insisted with a laugh. “damn. i didn’t know you were the gatekeeper. i’ll do better in the future.
rvquin:
“that’s why we need to be together, obviously. give all the closeted boys something to aspire for,” quin whined. “she’s really talented. i saw her on idol project 2– she seemed so….scary, but like she knew what she was doing.”
“that’s a fair description of her,” he agreed with a tiny laugh. “you should see her next to her boyfriend, though. she’s a lot less scary when she looks two feet tall...”
rvliyang:
“i… just… why does venus have to steal all the attention? reign too? they’re already established, but every time they come back, it ruins anyone else’s chance of doing anything,” she insisted, getting frustrated enough that she got teary eyed.
“it’s just how the industry works,” he answered. he got her frustrations, he really did, but the hissy fit was a bit much. “it’s not fair, but it’s not changing any time soon. so figure out how to make your group individual and do what you can in between.”
rveunyeol:
“I didn’t think so…” Eli answered, scratching their head. “I’ll keep sticking with the practices, then.”
“you’ll get more of a feel for it eventually,” daewon assured him. “it’s just gonna take time.”
rvquin:
“wow. way to let a guy down easy,” quyen answered with a tiny smile, shaking his head. “that makes sense. working with someone like jangbyul is probably a huge upside.”
“c’mon, quyen. we can’t be together. we’re the two most clockable gay men in this company. that’s just too cliche,” daewon teased. “yeah, i’ve learned a ton from her. she’s a huge role model to me.”
rvliyang:
“that doesn’t omit the fact that byulbit’s flopping in korean. and for a kpop group, that’s not good,” she answered with an eyeroll.
“just because you’re not doing venus numbers, doesn’t mean you’re flopping,” daewon disagreed. “you have big profit margins, and a growing fanbase. you have wins under your belt. your company is thriving. like, you’re just trying to get pity where none is needed”
“you know, i haven’t ever dressed particularly masculine before. i didn’t think it would suit me, but i kind of like it,” hoa admitted, looking at her outfit for the idol project audition stage. “the suspenders are really fun…”
“suspenders on women are usually only used in kinky fetish sexy versions of outfits, but i think they can be used elsewhere too, and this is proof. it suits you. i think it looks good.”
“Okay, I have never practiced dancing so long in my entire life,” Eli admitted. They danced every now and again, but it was for fun and not anything serious. Idol Project prep was a whole different beast. “I’m going to get used to it, I have to–but seriously, I don’t know how y’all keep it up. Tell me your secrets.”
“i don’t think there are any secrets besides practice and dedication. some people can pick choreography up faster, but still.....there’s no magic trick that bypasses just putting the work in.”
rvquin:
“is that why you came here? or was it just for the dance team?” quyen inquired
“i came here for all the hot chicks,” daewon said blandly, rolling his eyes with a laugh. “it was for the dance team, mostly. it was my best shot at being an actual professional dancer. but the company politics definitely aren’t a downside.”
“idol project groups are such a scam,” liyang whined. “i train for almost ten years, and get baseline success when i debut, but these people go on a show for two months and explode to the moon? that’s not fair at all.”
“you’re literally blowing up in china. you call that baseline success? don’t be ungrateful.”
