Vancouver, December 5 & 6 2016. Leo's first snow.

We spent the last 3 days in the hospital with Leo, in Scotland. We live in Canada and have been travelling for 3 weeks, and happened to need the hospital while out of our country. He had multiple tests done, given antibiotics through an IV multiple times/day, given the equivalent to baby Tylenol (they call it different here), we were sent home with 6 weeks worth of oral antibiotics, and we slept 3 nights. How much did we pay? $0. How much is our travel insurance charged? $0. It was free. And why? Because everyone deserves to be well and healthy no matter what.

I’m from Canada, and even that would cost a lot if you didn’t have travel insurance. If we had been in the US we most likely would now be bankrupt. Leo had a UTI that spread to his kidney and was very not well. The nurses and doctors were amazing. We waited a total of 0 minutes once we arrived at the hospital, since they were waiting for us.

Once Leo was a little better I talked to a lot of the staff and something that came up often was the healthcare in other places (because I was amazed at the care we were receiving and not being charged for). America has it so, so, so wrong. I can’t even begin to understand how people thing it’s the best place on earth to live. Canada’s better, but where we live in Canada we still pay a monthly “fee”, granted its like 10000000000x better still. Everyone deserves to be healthy, and not end up bankrupt.

Today I am beyond tired. I'm so jealous of Leo. Jacksons watching dinotrux but got distracted by the camera.

He looks so massive but he's literally only 8lbs.

I feel like Leo looks much more "boy" than Jackson ever did. Jackson had such perfect, delicate little features and was constantly mistaken for a girl. He still is sometimes (although I totally don't see it anymore). But Leo looks totally different in my opinion to what Jackson ever did. I seriously just want to stare at him all day.

Idk if anyone remembers all the shitty things that happened with Jackson and breastfeeding (crappy latch, mastitis x3, thrush etc) but I didn’t wanna post anything about how well it’s been going with Leo so I didn’t jinx it but of fucking course I wake up in the middle of the night with chills and sweats and pain in my left breast and by morning have full blown fucking mastitis.

Do you have a pump? You gotta make sure your boobs are empty empty empty. Though, I’m sure you know that. Warm compresses, get a hot water bottle if you don’t already have one. And massage.

I don't but I'm gonna be borrowing one from a friend!! I keep getting mixed opinions from people on pumping after feeding him! My midwife said to do it once or twice a day, but a lactation consultant said you shouldn't because it can increase your supply and then cause issues that way 😫 so I don't know what to do

I also started antibiotics ASAP on Saturday and nursed him the second I woke up with chills and pain and it's nowhere near as bad as it was with Jackson, Leo's still latching and getting decent amounts of milk (yay!) and the redness is going away a bit. I think I can beat it this time :)

The face he makes when he unlatches himself but I try to make him drink more because my boob needs to be emptied still. Like, no thanks mom.

Leo was as cool as a cucumber while we ate dinner yesterday.

Usually not the biggest fan of sayings on babies clothes but I feel like I need this for Leo.
