Anime Traps/Reverse Traps
‘Hideyoshis’ <3 I won’t even question it anymore ~(-_-)~
Op this is fucking disgusting
“traps/reverse traps”
hello?????
Op as a trans girl I hope you get mugged
*Throws up on this post and smears it into the carpeting, making it unreadable*
I dont quite understand what’s so bad about the word trap, maybe I’m just stupid
maybe look it up,, and please don’t do that ‘im stupid’ thing its guilt trippy!
anyways people use ‘trap’ as like, a way to attack trans women and..yeah.
@barioth52 it’s often used as a slur against trans women, the idea being that they’re men trying to “”trap”” another man into spending money on them or seducing them to make them gay or whatever else straight cis guys are afraid of
The term in and of itself originated as a description of a cross dressing fetish, but has been used against trans women frequently enough in a derogatory and transphobic manner that the term itself is often considered transphobic
Plus, calling characters who are either trans coded or just gender nonconforming “traps” is just scummy all around because even using the original definition of the term it’s sexualizing characters, some of which are minors, for being LGBT or GNC
It’s just nasty
The reason the term “trap” is considered transphobic when it’s said to a trans person is because it’s implying that they’re not women. It’s the same as if you just directly called them a man, it invalidates their gender identity. True, some people do use “trap” in a transphobic context, but the majority of people who use the term “trap” do not.
When used in the correct context, “trap” is almost universally used in a light-hearted, joking fashion. I mean, for god’s sake, the term itself was derived from a Star Wars meme that was popular at the time.
Also, it’s not inherently sexual or a fetish, but go off I guess.
HISTORY LESSON TIME!
The origin of the trap meme was the so-called ‘Bridget trap’ on 4chan, when anon would post pictures of Bridget from Guilty Gear (a crossdresser because his parents raised him as a girl, but he very much identifies as a boy and is quick to correct people who mistake him for a girl) and ask people if they would smash. Those green enough to have mistaken Bridget’s gender and said yes would be considered 'trapped’ (pranked) because “haha it’s actually a dude ur gay lul”. Later this would extend to include other characters of the same type - boys feminine enough to be seen as girls, but still very much being boys - so as to diversify their 'traps’. 'Reverse-traps’ also existed, but were rarer due to lack of targets to prank - after all, “there are no girls on the Internet”.
Immature humor, sure, but what else would you expect from an anonymous imageboard focused on discussing anime?
Many users warned their fellow anon that posts like this were, in fact, 'traps’, and this is when the Admiral Akbar macro (already used ubiquitously) began to appear as a warning in that kind of threads.
So yeah. That means that:
1. “Traps are gay” (because their very nature is to trick you into 'having hots’ for a dude), and 'reverse-traps’ are 'lesbian’ (same logic, but targeted at girls)
2. Trans girls are NOT traps (because they are actually girls), so calling them traps would be transphobic. Similarly, trans boys are NOT 'reverse-traps’ (for the very same reason - they ARE boys).
3. Most importantly, none of the characters listed in the original post are trans: they very much identify as the same gender as their biological sex (making them, by definition, cisgender) and their androgynous appearance is the only reason they are mistaken for the opposite sex (much to their annoyance/distress).
tl;dr: these anime characters are not trans, OP is not a transphobe.
Two sides of the same coin

A lot of people already condemn and calling this teacher a bitch/monster on the comment/reblog, not knowing the whole story. It was actually the TEACHER who drew the beautiful art on the blackboard, and the teacher is a HE, he’s an accomplished artist who was trying to teach his students about the beauty of art and however changing it is. He will draw any arts by request from his students, the students will take some pictures, and then he erases it from the board, and make new ones. He’s not a monster. He’s actually trying to spark the students’ interest in art. Funny how a simple pic without context enrages people - and the people refusing to look beyond the story.
You can follow his artworks on Twitter @hamacream where he always posts/tweet his arts.
Here are some samples of his artwork:
It’s awsome I wish I had a teacher like that
