Day 31 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âJust watch Trick r Treat.â - That wasnât a challenge, thatâs become a Halloween must đI started off Halloween with the original Night of the Living Dead and ended it with another Halloween must: Hocus Pocus! I also watched the new Leatherface movie, which is a canon prequel to the original TCM. Itâs left me feeling conflicted: I didnât hate it, but it was a lot different than other TCM films. I wished it had focused more on the Sawyer family. I also watched Dead-Alive for the very first time (someone recommended it to me months ago so I saved it for Halloween xD ). I wasnât sure what to expect but OMG thatâs one of the most bonkers horror comedies Iâve ever seen! I really enjoyed the entire film but the ending was wild, funny, bloody and ridiculously awesome! Plus, âI kick ass for the Lord!â had me lmfao! (I forgot to include Saw in yesterdayâs watch and Iâm trying to forget Prince of Darkness đ´)#31DaysofHalloween
Day 30 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âWatch a vampire film from the 1980s.â - When it comes to 80s vampire films it just doesnât get any better than The Lost Boys! Released in 1987, the year I was born, itâs my favorite movie and the reason I grew up loving vampires and the horror genre. I didnât get to watch many films today but I made sure to go with another 1987 horror classic: Hellraiser. 1987 was a phenomenal year for horror, not only were these two released , but 1987 also gave us Evil Dead 2, ANOES: Dream Warriors, Dolls and The Gate among many others. Plus, Schwarzenegger went up against the Predator! 1987 kicked ass. #31DaysofHalloween
Day 29 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âGive a movie you didnât enjoy much a second try.â - I remember watching Insidious when it first came out and hating it so much. I thought it turned into stupid, laughable nonsense and I havenât bothered watching any of the sequels, so I decided Iâd give it a second viewing and see if my opinion has changed. I enjoyed it a little more the second time around, but I still think its more silly than scary. Itâs not the worst, but the demon and spirits look so ridiculous . - I also finally got around to seeing The Strangers and was extremely disappointed in it. The first 20 mins is just depressing and then the middle is just weak sauce home evasion. Itâs probably the most realistic but sometimes realism only equals boring when movies like The Collector, Funny Games, High Tension and Hush exist in this particular niche of horror. The ending was disappointing and I felt like I wasted my time with that conclusion. At least I had fun with Ash Williams and Herbert West. đť#31DaysofHalloween
Day #28 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âWatch a horror film that features a heavy metal soundtrack.â - I had a little difficulty with this challenge, but ended up going with the bizarre and totally twisted House of 1000 Corpses by Rob Zombie. Itâs nowhere near the best horror movie, but thereâs certain things about the movie that a hard core horror fan can appreciate, plus Captain Spaulding is hard not to find entertaining - I also rewatched Cabin Fever for the first time in years. Thereâs something about a flesh eating virus that makes shudder more than anything else. ..the scene with the girl shaving her legs and flesh is being shaved off is still one of the most disturbing scenes for me to watch. It falls into the same category as watching someone self inflict injuries - just no đEnded Oct 28th with one of the very first films that kick started my love for horror: The Evil Dead and yes it still remains one of the best!! House of 1000 Corpses even gives a wink to it if you know what to look for ;) #31DaysofHalloween
Day 27 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âWatch a horror film that stars kids.â - I made a triple feature out of this one, starting with a true classic: The Exorcist. I also finally watched Orphan for the first time and loved it!! I highly recommend that one!! Then I watched The Children, which Iâve never heard of before, but a virus turns little kids into little homicidal spawns of Chucky. It was a pretty decent film but it lacked an explanation as to what was causing it, but those kids were creepy as fuck once they went murderous. I would not have hesitated to punt a toddler đ#31DaysofHalloween
Day #26 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âWatch a horror film thatâs been remade- but watch the original.â - I chose The Last House On The Left, which I think was Wes Cravens first film. I didnt really care for it tbh - I found it boring and just bad all around although I did appreciate the motherâs revenge technique đif you wanna watch Last House, Iâd recommend the remake instead. If you wanna watch a exploitation revenge movie from the 70s, go with I Spit On Your Grave - itâs way better. #31DaysofHalloween
Day 25 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âWatch a horror film that features Kaiju.â - Sigh, the Japanese Godzilla films are always playing in my house and drive me a little nuts lol so I chose the 2014 Hollywood version of Godzilla, which started out promising but it damn sure didnât feature enough of Godzilla :/ he mostly swam in the ocean the entire film .. eh it was okay. - I also finished my re-watch of all the original Halloween films. That is one franchise that is a complete and utter mess.. H20 tried to redeem, but powering through bad sequels just to have them retconed for H20 is a kick to my non-existing balls. Okay fine, itâs a solid sequel - but then thereâs Resurrection, which totally shits the bed and is a utter disgrace. Bleh!! Iâll just stop at part 4 next time đ #31DaysofHalloween
Day 24 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âWatch a black and white horror film.â - I ended up watching three. I started out with Young Frankenstein starring Gene Wilder, which was a fun movie, itâs meant to be a parody of the classic Frankenstein, then I realized Iâve never actually watched the classic Frankenstein (1931), so I decided to watch it as well, which was fantastic imo! I also watched another universal classic Iâve never actually seen before: Dracula (1931) starring Bela Lugosi, which is arguably the most popular version of Dracula. It was decent, but I watched the Christopher Lee Hammer Film classic earlier this month and I think that film is the superior of the two, although I did enjoy Renfield in the Universal version lol #31DayofHalloween
Day 23 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âR.I.P. Watch a film featuring Martin Landau.â - This was indeed a challenge. Iâm not too familiar with his films so I just random selected something that amazon prime had for free, which happened to be a 1980 film called The Return, which I hate to say, I wonât be returning to this film ever. Itâs about aliens, but thereâs been so many alien films thatâs be done a whole lot better thatâs this one underwhelms. #31DaysofHalloween
Day 22 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âWatch a horror film that features a clown.â - Perfect excuse to watch one of my faves: Killer Klowns From Outer Space! đ¤Ąđż This is one of the most fun horror films of all time imo xD I also watched a newer film called The Darkness starring Kevin Bacon. This had nothing to do with clowns. It was very generic and was basically like Insidious, so nothing special but not awful either. #31DaysofHalloween
Day 21 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âWatch something French.â I ended up watching two French films - Martyrs and High Tension. Neither of these films turned out how I expected, which I thought would be typical revenge style torture films or mindless torture porn. High Tension comes close to fitting into a typical slasher horror genre film.. Iâm not spoiling .. it was okay .. but Martyrs proved to be something else entirely and i havenât been so uncomfortable or unsettled by a movie since Funny Games and The Girl Next Door. Martyrs started out going in one direction and itâs brutal and violent but I wasnât prepared for the second half of the film, which had one of the most fucked up endings Iâve ever seen and I donât think that image will ever leave my head. Yea, itâs rare Iâm disturbed by anything but that disturbed me. #31DaysofHalloween
Day 20 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âWatch something you have never seen before.â - This is a late post, but I watched three films for today, one which was a total waste of time: Be Afraid. It was boring. Started out promising but I quickly lost interest, it wasnât scary and was very generic. I also watched Geraldâs Game after I finished the book earlier today. I didnât care for the book (bored to tears with it), but they made a major change with the movie that made it a whole lot better by comparison imo and Iâm often very critical of SK adaptations, but the film was better paced and the changes were for the best overall. I liked it. The best film I watched for the first time was Suspiria. Iâve only ever heard about it .. Didnât know what it was about though, so I went in with no spoilers thankfully - I found this one creepy and loved it!! The music only added to the creepiness - hell, the soundtrack alone is worth watching it for and enough to creep someone out. #31DaysofHalloween
Day 19 #HorrorHound October Challenge: âItâs John Lithgowâs Birthday. Watch a horror film featuring him.â - I watched Raising Cain for todayâs challenge, which was totally bizarre. He plays a guy with a split personality and this movie liked to screw with the viewers head, it was almost silly but John made it enjoyable. - Raw is a French movie i random picked off Netflix about vegetarian girl who suddenly develops a taste for human flesh after being forced to eat meat. This movie was also really bizarre lol .. i thought it was good, but I also thought it didnât make a whole lot of sense and had a lot of illogical shit happening for a movie that had a more serious tone. And Iâm still scratching my head on WHY and HOW on certain things. - the least bizarre movie I watched today featured a supernatural killing machine getting his ass kicked all over crystal lake by a girl with telekinetic powers- that made perfect sense đ #31DaysofHalloween
Day 18 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âWatch a horror film featuring a âscream queen.â - I chose the original Prom Night starring Jamie Lee Curtis. Always been a fan of Jamie, but never watched this one before. It had a simple plot, but it was decent nonetheless. - Anyway, I also watched the Netflix original movie The Babysitter, which was a lot of fun! #31DaysofHalloween
Day 17 #HorrorHound October Movie Challenge: âR.I.P. Watch a movie directed by George A. Romero.â - Iâve watched several Romero films already this month so I chose one I havenât ever seen before: The Crazies. I remember loving the remake, but the original is played out far more realistically. The Crazies themselves seemed more secondary to the story and it was overall more about the mass hysteria and government trying to keep the town quarantined. The ending was so bleak. Overall I prefer the remake, but not a bad film. - October 17th also marked the 20th anniversary of I Know What You Did Last Summer, which makes me feel so damned old đthis was one of my fave slasher films back in the day due to the fact Iâve always been a huge Sarah Michelle Gellar fan, so I watched it for the first time in a while and while itâs not the greatest movie ever, I still found it enjoyable. #31DaysofHalloween
