- Notes -
Page 2:
The writers make a pun about Masao’s kanji in his name meaning “correct/righteous man” when Masao is more of a loud idiot than a “righteous” man. I left the kanji in brackets to try and help show what they’re trying to say. Still awkward entirely in English, but thanks for working with me!
Page 3:
Tadashi is more known in the fanbase for being in love with Tamaki from events that happen throughout SQQ specifically, but in the beginning of the game and throughout SEBEC, they are enemies that are always bickering with each other, which is what the author’s note about Mark having an Akira & Tamaki sweater is more about.
how old is that persona 1 club book? can i get an estimated release date? cause.... it's quite suprising to see that many ayase fans... no hate btw, you're all lovely. but if it's as old as i think it is... they're probably parents right now.
Yep! Most fans of persona 1 from when it came out are in their 40’s about now. The club book is from 1997, released about a year after the game was released. Ayase was very popular with girls because she was made with the intention of being everything hip and trendy with girls in that exact moment - it’s why I imagine they didn’t bring her back for P2. They already were juggling enough characters returning, and probably didn’t know how to properly show a character based around youth and specific trends from 5 years back all grown up.

Eriko “Ellie” Kirishima pages from the Megami Ibunroku Persona club book (1997)
In past page translations, I have been translating Eriko’s nickname as “Elly” over “Ellie” as that’s how they currently translate her name in modern Atlus, but I have changed it to fit the spelling they prefer in the PSX games.
Next: Masao “Mark” Inaba
Last: Hidehiko “Brown” Uesugi
Notes and certain translation explanations:
Eriko’s section, primarily her data section, involves her crossing out Japanese words and replacing them with English ones. I have kept the ones she has done this with, leaving some answers in Japanese but with her English handwriting over it. In her introduction, there is also a sentence that goes: または彼女は非常にエリガント…いや、Elegantな女性でもある which is a play on the writer making an effort to talk like her in English… I tried my best to include it, but is very awkward when entirely in English. I tried leaving the Japanese word for “elegant” in Japanese to portray this, but is still a bit awkward. Thanks for bearing with me.
E L L E is a young women’s fashion magazine with origin in France. It has been in production since 1945.
MU is a japanese occult magazine that focuses on conspiracy theories, pseudoscience, and general off-the-wall nuttiness. It started in 1979.
Eriko having twin sisters is something probably randomly thrown in as twins in Japanese folklore is seen as punishment towards mothers for their sins. Not something people really scientifically legit believe in, but is something superstitious that falls into Eriko’s personality of loving the occult.

Im trying to get eriko’s pages up either this or next week. I need to finish translating this book soon cause ive been working on it at home, at cafes, at work, etc etc for so long the pages are starting to fall out 🤣
More charm ideas - Everyone focuses on Nintendo so I tried doing something Sega focused.

With the Persona 1 club book, do you plan to upload it to Internet Archive once you’re done?
Sure, I’ll be sure to do that.
Part 2 of 2 of the relationships pages - This page is focused on カップリング or what we call in English “shipping”.
This page focuses on most popular same-sex pairings from the Japanese fanbase in 1996. Most submissions were between the boys, but there were a couple GL pairings as well.
