Having played through a few dungeons in the SEBEC Route now, I find the complaints about the random encounter rate to be overblown. The rate's no higher than a lot of the RPGs I'd played when I was younger, and it's honestly no big deal.

This sort of dungeon design, on the other hand, is an actual nuisance. Like, look at this. The halls are mostly well lit until you get to this one area of inexplicable pitch darkness, and the mini-map doesn't show the route until you actually find it by fumbling around blindly. What is this? Who thought this was a good idea?

A though over the protagonists' names in the Persona series.

An interesting debate I've seen in the Persona fandom is how unsure some people are regarding the protagonists' names and which are canon.

We only have five exception to this: the Boy with earrings does not have a canon name and the most well-known name about him is 'Naoya Toudou' from the manga adaptation (he has two other names from the audio-drama and light novel but they're less known). Tatsuya Suou and Maya Amano are the only two protagonist who are named from the start and Kotone Shiomi is the only one whose name is from a stage-play adaptation and from no other media. Nagisa Kamisiro is a special case as his canon name has been revealed from the official Chinese, Japanese and Korean trailers according to the Persona wiki.

So, let's analyse Atlus' three favored boys.

Persona 3 protagonist is mostly associated with two names: Minato Arisato from the manga adaptation and Makoto Yuki from the movies adaptation. He does receive a name from stage-plays adaptations, but how boy it'd long to list them all, so I'd suggest that you look at them on the Persona fan wiki where you can find them. Anyway, in this case, it is more about a set of preferences about which name seems the more canon and suits better the protagonist. This is due to the manga adaptation appearing before the movies of course. But over time, I've noticed that Makoto Yuki was more used than Minato Arisato (thanks to Reload), so we can somewhat say that people nowadays refer to the P3 protag as Makoto Yuki.

On the other hand, Persona 4 protagonist is famously known as Yu Narukami. That's the name people will refer to that character as. Not Souji Seta from the manga, although this name does appear in fanfics, especially in fan works before the anime adaptation, nor the many names from the stage-plays adaptations. This is due to how massively popular P4 anime had been in the past and how it portrayed its protagonist to make him the most beloved guy of the entire franchise (before Joker from P5 takes the spotlight). Hell, in P4 Ultimate Arena, Yu Narukami is his canon name from the get-go. So in this case, there are no debate about his name at all.

Aaaand there's Persona 5 protagonist. This one is a bit complicated: most medias use his codename 'Joker' as a way to not define explicitly his name and, unlike with Yu, the spin-offs do not give him a canon name. So only two main name do appear in the fandom, not counting the stage-play names: Akira Kurusu from the manga adaptation and Ren Amamiya from the anime adaptation. Forget the stage-plays names, they're not included in those debates.

Boy, is it more complicated for Joker: no one can set an agreement on what name he should use as canon between these two. This is maybe because a) his manga name came first, just like in P3 protag's case, but unlike with Joker, Reload did reinforce more of the movies' name as the canon one for P3 protag; b) while P4 anime had been extremely popular, P5 anime is considered the worst adaptation due to rushing the game's story and for being genuinely badly animated, so no wonder it had been a flop and did NOT help define 'Ren Amamiya' as a canon name for the fandom.

So, what are the canon names for these three? Well, Atlus refers to their canon names from the anime adaptations. So by default, their canon name are from the animes. Probably thanks to P4's success. So yes, even if P5 is bad, 'Ren Amamiya' is the canon name for Joker.

But then again, it's up to the fans to choose which name they prefer, canon or not, in spite of the debates or Atlus' decision.

EDIT: Thank you @apolloathenafusion for mentioning Persona 5: The Phantom X, for being the only Spin-off to mention the use of canon names coming from the anime adaptation. So we can confirm this game follows Atlus' decision in naming the characters from the anime adaptations' names.
