"I'm gonna get you to burst just like you were a bubble, frame me up on your wall just to keep me out of trouble." ·
For someone who was bullied viciously in school and spent most of his childhood wearing glasses thick enough that he could potentially start fires with them, Damien Ashing is turning quite a lot of heads with his sudden shift in attractiveness these days. There are many rumors about how he achieved this change, most of them involve him selling his soul to some demon or another, which might upset someone with functioning moral standards, but he’s rather enjoying the noteriety that they’re giving him now that he’s returned from his soujorn on the East Coast. All of those years spent on the bottom rung of the social ladder are behind him now and Damien has plans to knock some of his past torturers off of their pedestals so that he can climb his way closer to the top, all the better to watch them writhe in agony to make up for how badly they treated him in the past. Having finally ditched the unattractive shackles of the past is just icing on the cake for him, but he couldn’t have asked for better timing.·
CHARACTER TRAITS:·DISSOLUTE. AMBITIOUS. VENGEFUL. ENGAGING. HOT-BLOODED.
Born on the 2nd of November to human parents, Damien was a sickly child from the cradle onwards and was wearing glasses before he was potty trained properly. His parents tried not to coddle him too much, lest he feel as if there was anything truly wrong with him, but his peers made sure to remind him of just what a weirdo he was as soon as he started school. There was a point in third grade where he was having his glasses broken by bullies practically every other month, but though he begged his parents to let him be homeschooled, they refused to allow him to withdraw from Ashbourne Elementary on the grounds that it would stunt his social skills.·
With that refusal looming over him, he suffered through the next nine years of school with the same group of students that had harassed him from the start, nursing a growing thirst for revenge of one kind or another. Of course, he knew that he wasn’t capable of taking revenge on much of anyone when he could barely see half a foor in front of his face without his thick glasses perched on his nose and when he fell behind his male peers in practically every way that wasn’t academically inclined. He was painfully short until the end of his junior year in high school and his ‘growth spurt’ fell far short of his expectations, as he was barely taller than most of the girls who taunted him for his thrift store clothing. Being allowed to go off to college in a place where nobody knew him came as a relief, though it was only a short-lived one as he found himself to be way over his head barely three weeks into his first semester. His intelligence had been remarkable in Ashbourne, but that was in a student body of less than seven hundred people. The Ivy League college that he had been accepted into was stuffed to the gills with mediocre talents like himself and he took to slacking off in his classes once that truth set in for good, getting involved with some of the darker elements on campus as a delivery lackey for the drugs that they peddled.··
If he hadn’t been cornered in that dark alley just off campus one night in December, he would have probably foundered his way into utter obscurity, perhaps ended up in a dead-end retail job for the rest of his life once the drug selling gig fell apart, but the vampire who drained him seemed to have other plans for him. Well, at least fate did, and fate didn’t abandon him less than a week later once they had explained in detail how to survive and handle the new abilities that his undead state had given him. He no longer needed the glasses that had blighted his appearance all of his life, he was stronger than he could have ever believed possible, and people actually began to pay attention to him in ways that he couldn’t quite comprehend, though he was hardly unhappy with that change. It only made him more successful as a drug peddler, so much so that he could afford to relocate to Ashbourne again and establish new contacts to take advantage of what he saw as a prime market. It has been three years since he returned home and his influence has grown exponentially since then, though not as much as he would like. The current status quo isn’t to his liking, it’s far too cut and dry, but it’s also lacking a key element that could make it far more powerful than it ever has been: him. Damien has the beginnings of a plan to take his place among the creme de la creme set in motion, but he’ll have to put in quite a bit of work and lure in more with his newly crafted charm before it’s solid enough to break down the walls that have stood for centuries. Not that he minds, it’s a challenge to relish, not to fear.
Truth be told, he’s growing wary of Una McKenna’s loyalties, especially with how tumultuous things are in Ashbourne lately. Sure, they’ve had a deal going for years now and it’s been very profitable for both of them to siphon off her blood once a month or so to sell off to vampire connoisseurs, but she’s been putting him off on their regular meeting dates recently. First a day, then two days, then a week, and Damien is beginning to wonder if she’s forgotten the deal they’ve signed and the money she would owe him if she went back on her word. Maybe he’ll have to remind her soon, or maybe he’ll just have to teach her a permanent lesson instead.
Of all of the people that he’s turned, Zachary Merrick has always been his favorite and he has never bothered to hide that fact from the other members of their little group. Zach is relatively self-sufficient, he has iniative that they don’t, and best of all, he landed a sweet deal selling blood for the Irvings, thereby placing him in a perfect position to learn as much about the way that they function as possible. Admittedly, he’s a rather lazy spy and he seems to enjoy the profit he’s making now that he’s moved on from drugs to blood dealing, but he does dredge up some good information from time to time that he loyally turns over to Damien as soon as possible.
Damien rarely turns down a chance to make a little extra profit from his customers, especially if they seem pliable enough, but there is a line drawn in the metaphorical sand that he will not cross, no matter how much money that Blake Constantine offers him. Blood sales are for vampire customers only, it’s a hassle to beg such favors from Zach in the first place and he could smell the retch-worthy magical scent on the boy as soon as he walked up to him with a request for marijuana. His rudeness when refused didn’t endear him to Damien either, and his threats about being the nephew of a council member just earned him a spot on Damien’s shit list for life. He still tries to push his luck from time to time, but there’s not a chance in hell that he’ll buckle for some upjumped twerp when it could cost him his whole business if things went wrong.
