Madteo is a poison mixer of the highest order. Rising roughly in the wavelength spectrum of Huerco S or DJ Sotofett, the New York producer's tracks causticize, hum, and cut on his new LP, Misto Atmosferico E Ad Azione Diretta, released on the Unsure label. This raises the question of why this scratchy call to dance is so uninhibitedly fulfilled. The composition conjures the image of a bridge threatening to collapse as soon as a certain mass walks across it in the rhythm of its own resonance, thereby causing the structure to vibrate critically. The technical term for this phenomenon is mechanical resonance. Madteo's tracks, however, do not collapse in on themselves by virtue of their disruptive self-resonance, which might be expected; over time, they begin to float. Below, above, beside, behind – in between. Where does this groove happen? We will never understand or pinpoint the how of the squeaking interplay of abundance and omission that kicks like poison on this record. That's not the goal of the exercise, either. This lo-fi bass-music house record is mechanical tribalism, metaphysical drive; here, thinking isn't the order of the day, but rather feeling. Misto Atmosferico E Ad Azione Diretta is a mystical beauty, a madness of dancing destruction. Nathanael Stute
