Jo is not trans

Please stop being angry at Lauren Patten for being a cis female playing a cis female. Females can be masculine without being trans, also Frankie refers to herself as bisexual (having been in a relationship with both JO and a CIS MALE so where would she pull bi out of if Jo is trans) and Jo is short for Joanne not a new name. In her own words, she is not a “FUCKING FABRIC STORE”

I think a lot of people hold on to Jo being trans or non-binary because during the A.R.T. production Jo, as a character, truly seemed to be on a gender journey, rather than a journey of understanding her sexuality, like she is on Broadway. I’ve seen both productions, and Jo feels ultimately like two totally different characters in the two productions. But yes, you’re correct, the Jo we’re given on Broadway is cis.

Yeah the ART production isn’t quite as clear on it and like I’m all for people having opinions but I don’t think it’s okay that people go after Lauren for being cis like nobody ever explicitly stated Jo’s identity until Lauren in that interview like a day ago said she’s cis but I think the whole not my jo think was a liiiiitle bit dramatic

Oh, I completely agree with you, attacking the actor is such bullshit. And Lauren is so great as Jo, I just wish the Jo that was in the A.R.T. production was more like the Broadway Jo, in the sense of A.R.T. Jo just felt more fleshed out and had a larger role. The same with Steve, A.R.T. Steve felt more solidified, but the pacing on Browaday is so improved, Diablo truly never lets me down. And Bella in the Broadway production is finally an amazingly realized character. I left the A.R.T. production never thinking about Bella, and I left the Broadway production being in awe of how well written she had become, which was so desperately need, as she was simply a plot device beforehand.

Am I the only one...

That thinks this season of Insatiable was a huge cluster?? While it had some brilliant moments, it felt extremely disjointed and a lot of characters, Nonnie especially, felt super out of character a lot of the time. Season 1 was perfectly brilliant and I had high hopes for season 2.

Podcast was recently reviewed. Person commented that the podcast wasn’t for them, as we talk too much about Zoë, and that’s absolutely thier prerogative. We do talk about Zoë and probably too much, but we like Zoë, so naturally we talk about her. I mean, she’s queen. However this particular review went on to talk about my “grating,” Boston accent. That’s not cool. That’s not something I can control. It’s my accent, and I love it. It’s not going anywhere. So, I’m so sorry that’s how my voice sounds. And thanks for all the people that have listened to us over the years, we love you, and we want to try and come back to talk soon, Boston accent and all. Review us all you want, hate on what we talk about, we’ll take all the bad reviews, because the love this podcast has given us, well that outweighs any of the negative.

Usually when 13-year-olds on film/TV say, “I love you,” it’s so banal, but damn, if it doesn’t actually feel real when El and Mike say it. Bravo(a) Stranger Things writers, for actually writing a teenage love story that actually feels real.
