vegas was a nice pause in the bustle of changes the cheryl felt were turning up in her life. the brunette could still the residual tendrils of stress, but drowning herself in the throes of all the adventure ( and alcohol. ) laid out before here was a necessary band-aid. despite the good time she was determined to have, going above and beyond to avoid drinking enough to do something actively stupid, she couldn’t completely avoid the passing notices of damon. it was always exceedingly difficult for the brunette to ignore his presence, but even more so difficult when she found herself engulfed in the picturesque pair he made with the lovely ivy amor. that imagery sprung a slew of emotions rampaging through her but the actress she worked hard to be, she put on her bravest face and focused on the importance of the good in damon moving on. that, and it was impossible to find herself upset given the hypocrisy, and the sweetheart the ivy was? only served to add reason in which cheryl was reminded of the good. additionally, the times she had caught sight of the familiar face of her ex managed to mostly signal her memories back to that last time that they’d seen one another before leaving, and it left a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach. with all intentions to head to yet another bar or nightclub and enjoy her night while the opportunity was ripe, cherry wasn’t sure whom she expected to be on the other side of the door when she swung it open, but it certainly wasn’t damon drake. perhaps that’s why she found herself blinking in surprise, brows furrowing and almost fearing he was once again drunk at her door. it wasn’t a difficult assessment to make that he was, in fact, sober. the teddy bear he had, the size alone almost quirked her lips into a smile, but she was apprehensive of the visit with the clear history that lingered between. ❝ um, ❞ she couldn’t help but swallow, the tone in his voice squeezing her heart. and she was able to sense a different in the other popping up at her door this time. she couldn’t deny a small smile as the teddy bear was held out in her direction, and she conceded. but not without a smart remark. ❝ a minute turned into twenty real quick. ❞ she squinted, hating the feeling of tension. ❝ but it is… bigger than me. ❞ she mused, taking it and doing her best to slide it inside and as far out of the doorway so her roommates could enter and exit freely. ❝ okay, twenty minutes. ❞ she agreed, as she pulled her door shut behind her and motioned after him.

to damon’s surprise, being together right now didn’t bother him as much as he’d thought it would. but on their good days, on the days he stood in front of cheryl sober and with a clear mind… he didn’t worry as much. when they were good… things were easy, it was when things took a turn that he ended up fucking things up beyond repair. he cleared his throat and lifted his gaze to hers, his own smile ever so slightly picking up the corners of his lips only to fall at her hesitance at his arrival. ❛ promise, i come in peace… sober… this time. ❜ damon replied as he handed over the bear - fighting the momentary urger to crack a smile watching her pull the damn life-sized bear into her room. apologizing should’ve been easy, confessing that he wanted her happy… with him or without him. but their history, everything they’d been through, it made it hard to say goodbye and give her the chance he should’ve given her since he found out she was with somebody else. ❛ i think you know as well as i do i’m not great with timing… ❜ he stood in silence while it seemed all hell raged inside his head. it hurt. god, it hurt. more than it had when she called off whatever they’d been doing, more than it had ever hurt when any of his other relationships ended. he’d usually been the one ending them, anyway. cheryl had been like his lifeline through all of the good and the bad. his one hope, his only assurance that maybe there was someone else like her out there. that maybe that elusive she really existed, just waiting for him to find her. hell, maybe that was ivy. he picked himself up for appearance’s sake after she’d agreed to come. this wasn’t about him, being selfish was why they were where they were now. why anyone walking beside them could cut the tension radiating between them with a knife if they wanted to. ❛ i have enough to say to all that it’ll take the rest of the day to get it out... but since we have twenty minutes.. ❜ he glanced down at her, the words that had flown from his mind as he walked back down the hallway he forced himself to walk up moments ago. ❛ i don’t wanna take up more of your time than i have to… but cher… i’m sorry. i shouldn’t have shown up the other day like that. i shouldn’t have put you in that position. ❜ it took every fiber of his being to keep his jaw from clenching, almost reliving showing up in the middle of the night and pounding on her door… drunk, spewing whatever he thought he’d buried down at her. pride begged him to stop, to shut up... but cheryl deserved the apology. ❛ i want you to be happy… i want you to know that. with me, without me… that’s all i’ve ever wanted. i’m sorry it took me so long to figure out how to say it to you. how to actually apologize, because i’ve been wrong for a while now. i’ve put you in positions… i’ve - i have gone above and beyond to make life harder for you intentionally and without intentions to do so. but i never wanted that. i never wanted us to be here… because you deserve better. you’ve always deserved to know i’m in your corner. but i’m sorry, i’m sorry i hurt you… but, i’m here, i’m in your corner. i’m happy that you’ve found someone who’s going to give you that future you want - and i support you, in that. i should’ve supported you all long, i should’ve stay out of the way… but i’m done fuckin’ things up for you. i don’t wanna hurt you anymore, cher. and i don’t wanna lose whatever you’re willing you spare for me... friendship wiese, for beau’s sake. i don’t wanna lose you completely. ❜

the girl smiled as the two stood together, it was known that they had a thing going on and she didn’t mind that everyone knew but she knew the history of cheryl and damon and that still sat at the back of her mind and the girl didn’t want to upset anyone for whatever reason that maybe. ivy enjoyed damon’s company and these past few days have been great, they could just do their own thing, spend time with friends and then if they hadn’t seen each other through the day they would reunited at bed time. whoever roomed them together, thank you. “there you go again, luckily im wearing makeup so it can hide it a little” she said giggling. she loved how he made her feel even with the little comments. it was something that she had missed. “you are too kind damon.” she said blushing some more. ivy didn’t really mind if she wore make up to not it wasn’t a big deal for her, it became much of a normal occurrence for her as she modelled and attending different events but some events she just felt like being natural and she loved that. however, tonight was not one of those nights. ivy stood leaning against the boy as they waited to go in, hearing other residents names being called one by one. it wouldn’t be long until they would be seated. ivy quickly checked her phone for anything from ana. “if you keep making me blush i won’t have any nerves left” she said smiling at him. “who knows, i guess its a experience that we will have the inside goss on and that is good to hear, im looking forward to it.” the girl said as she intertwined her fingers with his. “i’ve had a really nice couple of days with you” she said before giving him a kiss with a smile.

damon was rubbing the back of his neck in an uncharacteristic fidget, brows furrowed wondering on what planet ivy amor could possibly thing she needed to cover anything up with makeup. the thought itself prompted him to shake his head. “you don’t need to hide anything - with or without makeup. few people can make a blush look that good.” his mouth twisted, as if words were pressing in behind it and he was trying to rein them in. especially when she made the comment on him being kind in any sort of fraction. “kind? me? i don’t know about that... that was just honest.” his life before vegas was a shit show... the only constant being staying strong for beau and nix. yet by the strange turn of events, all the time he’d been spending with ivy played a hand in the general assumption they were together which meant he’d been blessed with sharing a room with the beauty herself. there was a small smile that peaked into exsistance as she checked her phone, how she was with ana made it easier for him not to worry when bringing both ivy and her daughter around his boys. “well, i guess we should make you blush? who needs nerves really?” his cheek grazed hers, feeling bad because he was coarse with a hint of stubble, as he sought the corner of her lips with his. “see, now you’ve got me almost ready to try it out. and honestly? i’ve had a really good time with you, i wasn’t sure about the trip. but you’ve turned it around for me. i’m actually having fun...” damon admitted, dipping his head to meet her kiss, relief and elation flooding him along with the disappointment of hearing their names called to be seated and breaking up whatever moment they were having. “you ready?” he asked, laughing quietly, leading her towards the host to usher them to their table while his thumb padded across the femme’s fingers.

it had taken more than a few days of being in vegas and seeing cheryl in passing more times than he’d liked to. damon waited patiently outside her room... yet again, only this time sober. his free hand rubbed his face, trying to figure out how the fuck he was supposed to say what he needed to say. there was a hallowing saddness, knowing he was there to apologize. in apologizing he was letting her go - for good. no more showing up pounding on her door drunk at 3 am trying to win her back. no more fighting. no more arguments. no more sliding around the fact that she was actually getting married to someone else. that reality hit harder than anything else. it hit as hard as knowing that he’d fucked up and lost her for good. an hour before he’d looked around the gift shop for so long his head was spinning. what was an apology gift that said: i’m sorry for fucking up, for being selfish and not letting you move on when i know i should? flowers were too romantic. drinking after the last time he’d seen her was out of the question. an oversized teddy bear that made his lip twist was the only thing damon could reason with. so there he stood, teddy bear and heart in hand. knocking once or twice - preparing himself for anyone else who’d answer the door... including the man she’d promised to marry. yet, luck had been on his side. the door opening and his ex in her fully... and painfully beautiful glory stood before him, and it forced his heart ( or what was left of it ) to sink to the pit of his stomach. ❛ before you shut the door on my face, as well deserved, you wanna walk and talk for a minute? ❜ he asked, voice all too pleading for his own taste, leaving a sting of destaine in his mouth. forcing his features up into all the smile he could muster, holding the bear out.❛ teddy bear bigger than you for twenty minutes of your time. ❜

ivy had spent most of her day by the pool, sipping on cocktails and just enjoying her time here. it felt nice to just chill and not worry about anything really. its what she needed. the girl got herself ready before she decided to head out to just have a walk around the hotel to get some fresh air. the grounds were beautiful, the lights, everything just seemed so peaceful yet full of energy. it was vegas of course. she also spoke with ana before she went to sleep. she missed her daughter and was excited to head home later in the week to see her. once she had hung up with ana the girl made her way over to the venue where the dinner was being held, she knew damon wasn’t there yet but that didn’t mind her, she could catch up some of the other residents before they headed inside. it was only minutes before they were seated when damon arrived. she smiled when she saw him coming into view. he looked so handsome. the girl could help but smile as she felt the boys arms wrap around her waist and his lips on her cheek. “and you always seem to make me blush everytime.” she said smiling. “you look so handsome tonight and im actually really excited for this yet im nervous at the same time” she giggle. “hopefully the food is going to be good”

phase two of heartbreak for damon, apparently, was tossing himself out of his usual ring of meaningless faces and cold beds and into something that was turning towards more serious. a few days had passed since hidden hills took over las vegas - and in that time... he’d spent it with ivy - cheryl went from hindering in the front of his mind to haunting in the back. he heeded ivy’s gaze, and he wasn’t lying. she was absolutely remarkable. in fact, he was wavering over a fine line of heading to a point of no return. knowing he’d never be able to give himself to ivy the way he’d given himself to his ex - all while a part of him was daring... even begging him to try. what kind of fool would he have been if he didn’t at least attempt? even moreover, damon drake never was one to pivot in the face of a dare... even from his own sub-conscience. with ease, he pulled her close as they waited in the lobby area as names started to be called by hosts to usher people to their seats. he’d done absolutely nothing except have a good time. yet there was some understanding that for him, he was actually having fun because he was spending time with someone he thoroughly enjoyed. there was no sense romanticizing this. he’d thrown caution to the wind for the first time since losing everything. it was good for him. for once damon gifted himself with a promise of something new to savor for years to come. he’d taken a shot... was it ivy’s influence? or rebellion? probably a little of both... reaching up and move some stray strands of hair from the femme’s face, damon’s lip tugged upwards into his crooked half-smile, “you look good when you blush… i like it. come to think of it, now that we’ve gotten over the whole spending the night together thing, i can’t think of a time since we’ve gotten here you haven’t looked good?” he voiced back in a melodic out of character way, leaning himself against the wall behind him. “i’m sure we’ll figure out some way to cure the nerves - but i’m glad you’re excited... even though i’m not sure why there’s all the hype about eating in the dark. from what i’ve heard the foods almost as delicious as you are.”

maybe it was his up bringing and being trained from a young age to watch his back, but the idea of eating dinner in the dark wasn’t exactly damon’s idea of a good time. the only bright side to this was the company he had at his side. an unexpected facetime from beau had held him up at the hotel so to keep from taking anything from the experience from ivy - he sent her head. plus, he needed a little time with his oldest son. he hated being away from him - hated knowing he wasn’t with either of his parents. but a break from reality especially after drunkenly showing up at cheryl’s before they felt seemed like a good idea. he needed to let loose, remember that there was more to life than cheryl monroe. so the father and son duo talked for about an hour before he made his way to the restaurant by taxi. but now he felt like he was racing the clock, the last thing he wanted was for ivy to be sitting there alone… waiting. luck was on his side though, he’d made it to the event with minutes to spare before the group of hidden hills parents were to be seated. and finding ivy was easy - even in a crowded room. she stood out. catching a glimpse of her though, never failed to put a smile on his face. with ease he made his way through the crowd, eyes wandering her frame - if he was good with words he would’ve found a way to articulate that she was… breathtaking. instead, the male kissed her cheek while an arm easily found it’s way around her waist, ❛ you… ivy, never fail to steal the show. glad i got a chance to see it before we don’t get to see anything. ❜ damon confessed, eyes glimmering with deviance behind them.
