It looks like I'll be heading off to Paris for work again next week.
I do love Paris, I just don’t love having to work there.
I doubt it'll be all work, if you're planning on bringing Chuck with you.

First chapter's almost done!
Who do you think you’re talking to? I never let anything go until I find out the truth. Henry’s as adorable and devious as ever. And since when do you care about Chuck? Or the efforts he is making in our relationship? But since you asked, I will have you know that he may be accompanying me to Paris.
I don't. I care about you. I hope the two of you enjoy Paris, Blair. You deserve to be happy.
Humphrey! I thought about it and we could be friends!
What?

You don't seem excited. I thought you love Paris?Â
Late Night Showing || Dan & Blair
Finally satisfied with the look of her dress, she glanced up at Dan, noticing that he hadn’t made a move to get up yet, and saw that he was staring at her. Suddenly feeling self-conscious under his scrutiny, she had to force herself not to fidget from one foot to the other in her nervousness. Apparently she wasn’t the only one with a staring problem- she was about to make a snarky comment about it, but before she got the chance he was standing and bidding her to follow him out of the theater. She nodded and proceeded to follow behind him. The theater was dark, not so much so that she couldn’t see the man in front of her, but she still grabbed the back of his shirt to keep from losing him as they made their way out.
Now that she was actually with him again, she had no idea why she’d ended their friendship in the first place. She may have been in love with another man, but there was nothing that made her more content than doing something as simple as going to the movies with Dan. She was glad that he didn’t still hate her for how she ended their relationship. After the way Serena left him the same way she did not so many years ago, she thought he would want nothing to do with her. But he had wanted her to be the one to comfort him after it all fell apart, he wanted to kiss her, he had wanted her to go to Film Forum with him. You’ll always have me. She wanted to tell him the same thing- that he always had her, but she wasn’t in the right place in her own life to be making such promises at the moment.
She walked beside him as they made their way through the lobby in a comfortable silence. A wistful smile made its way onto her face as she linked her arm with his. Anyone walking by would probably guess they were a new couple on a date, happily escaping the movie to find a more private place to spend time together. She tried to remind herself that that wasn’t what they were anymore, but she didn’t mind pretending, even if it was only for a little while.
The smile on her face immediately dropped when she heard him sigh sadly, she wondered if she’d done something to upset him. She looked up at him and the words that came out of his mouth next had her stopping in her tracks. She simply stared at him for a long moment, trying to think of an answer. Why was she here? Because she wanted to wallow in someone else’s misery instead of her own? Because she hadn’t had an adult conversation with someone that didn’t consist of yelling or wedding plans in months? Because she missed him? “I guess I just wanted to hang out with an old friend.” She said at last, swallowing over the nervous lump in her throat. “Believe it or not, Humphrey, I still enjoy your company.” She let out a little laugh, trying to lighten the mood but it only came out awkward and fake.
They had finally made it out the front doors and into the brisk night. She wanted to ask him why he had asked her here in the first place, but she was afraid of what his answer might be. “So…” She looked around her, trying to avoid his face in fear of what she would see there. She still had no idea where they were planning on going, and she really didn’t think he had any ideas either, so before she could mull over how very bad of an idea it was, she threw out an idea. “Do you wanna go back to your place? Maybe we can watch one of your depressing foreign films to more match our moods?” She offered, smiling hesitantly as she waited for his response.
The subtle way in which she linked her arm around his didn't go unnoticed, though he doesn't say anything about it. Whenever he was around her and it was just the two of them, it was always so easy to forget everything else and pretend that this was ten years ago. But even though a lot of things were the same, he wasn't deluded enough to believe that they were, or that both of them were still the same people they used to be back then. Perhaps, to an extent, but so much had happened over the years that passed and it took a lot out of him, took parts of him that he had held onto for a long time. Sometimes, he wondered how it had taken him so long before he finally realized that happy endings could only be found in novels and fairytales. Maybe it was the romantic in him that refused to give up and believe that this hell hole he was stuck in was as good as it was going to get, but now, the passion, the fire that had once been inside him has died down to a flickering flame, and he wasn't really sure he had the willpower to keep it alive.Â
He almost laughed bitterly at Blair's choice of words. An old friend. It's funny because that was exactly how he felt. Old and worn out. He'd watched years of his life pass him by way too quickly only to find that nothing had come out of it. Not really. A few novels and a couple of short stories, a failed marriage and that was about it. It was certainly not how he had imagined how his life would turn out to be when he was seventeen and had the whole world ahead of him. And that was all he really was to her, wasn't he? An old friend, but despite himself, despite everything, she would always mean more to him. It was with her that he learned how to give without expecting in return, to live, to truly live and to love, so much so that he would gladly give his own happiness up if it meant she could have hers. He knew he wasn't always selfless but he tried so hard for her, but that hadn't been enough, and it seemed that he wasn't ever going to be enough for anyone. It was a reality that had been painful to accept, but nevertheless one that he had to.Â
Her next few words brought a faint smile on his lips and even though her laugh seemed force, he could hear the sincerity in her voice. "I still enjoy your company too." he offered, glancing at her but she seemed intent on looking everywhere but at him so he focused his attention back on the streets. "I might even go as far as admitting that I may have missed the way you come up with a thousand different ways to insult my hair." he continued, and he couldn't help but chuckle at his own words.Â
Genuine surprise was evident on his expression as he heard Blair, in not so many words, invite herself to his place but he doesn't even think twice before he nodded in agreement. "Sounds like a plan. Though you should probably know that at the moment, my place would be the hotel about one block from here." he said, returning her smile and gesturing ahead of them as they walked side by side. "I wasn't really planning to stay in the city for too long." he explained, even though she hadn't really asked for one. He had come back in hopes that he could somehow find a way to convince Serena to give their relationship another try, get her to go home with him but after his run in with Nate, he knew that there was no point in fighting for her anymore. Still, he decided to stay a little longer if only to catch up with his family and friends - or well, friend.
First chapter's almost done!
Very funny, Humphrey. You always make everything sound so tragic, if she’s inspiring you to write why should you forget about her? But I suppose I’ll let it go for now, eventually I’ll find out who it is though. I always do.
You know what would be better? If you let it go for good. How's Henry, by the way? And Chuck? I hear he's been making an effort to make up for what happened at the wedding.

I’m sorry.. I’m not even sure if your Dad really knows or not. It was all sort of messy. Things were a little out of control. Damien sort of lost his mind and really wanted J. She refused to go with me or have much to do with him at that point. He blackmailed her more or less into going away with her, told her if she didn’t he’d hurt me again so she went with him. He drugged her and fled to Canada. Nate was able to track her down and paid Damien half a million dollars to get her back. She to a hospital near the boarder and had to have her system flushed of all the drugs but she was okay after that. I made her come stay with me for a couple of weeks until she was better.
Damien Daalgard? Wait-- wasn't she with him at your wedding?
I should really find Jen and talk to her.Â
First chapter's almost done!
Ugh, that is so not true! I’ve admitted to being your friend plenty of times when it didn’t benefit me. Trust me, it’s hard to forget the humiliation it caused.
And don’t think that by changing the subject I’m going to forget about your mystery girl. I’ll find out who she is one way or another.
I'm sure it took you weeks of locking yourself up in your room and pretending you had consumption before you managed to fully recover. You really ought to forget I ever mentioned anything about this girl though - and that's exactly what I should be doing as well. Forget about her.
I thought she would have told you. I figured I was the last person you’d want to hear from so I wasn’t about to call and tell you. It was taken care of though.
She didn't. No one did. What happened?
Well I won’t be in the city much longer myself so if you’re leaving because of me and Nate its silly. I know J will never admit it but I’m pretty sure she needs you, Dan. She’s had a rough couple of months.. She was um.. kidnapped and then fell into a dark place for a while.Â
She was what?! And no one thought to tell me this until now?
For the sake of Serena, I want to apologize in case I've come across as heavy after the wedding. You have just as much right to be here as anyone and I know it won't happen overnight, but I hope one day we can have some sort of relationship again. Congratulations on the first chapter of your new book too.
First chapter's almost done!
Than what is it like? Come on Humphrey, I thought we were friends and friends don’t keep things from each other.
You know, I noticed you only admit that we're friends whenever you want something from me.
Isn’t there anyone else in the city you want to stick around for? You have J, your dad and B all there. Maybe you shouldn’t pack up and go so soon. You’re Dad did just get you back. Its okay, thanks for apologizing, it means a lot.
I'll stick around long enough to catch up with them, but I don't think I'm needed here. It's really for the best. It's not like I'm going away for good. And no, I should have apologized much earlier.
First chapter's almost done!
Your inspiration is a girl?! Humphrey, have you been hiding your new muse from the rest of us? Okay, spill! Who is she?
It's.. it's not like that. And no way. I'm not telling you.
Yeah, you’re right. Well you have to do whats best for you, Dan. If leavings what you have to do to be happy then so be it. Just find a place that makes you smile okay?
I think it is, and I will. I'm sorry if I caused you any trouble. I never meant to.
[Private] I just can't win
I worry about everyone, always have always will.
You're a good person, Serena. You deserve to be happy and I'm glad that you found it, even if it's not with me.
