If you don't find their relationship compelling at all, then you're just allergic to well-written romance.
My Deltarune theory is that Kris died and now they're in a circle of hell specially designed to torment polyam people.
You know Kris's love life is absolutely miserable when they're put in a position where they need to betray the trust of everyone who might actually want to have a romantic relationship with them.
They can't have one with Susie because, even if she reciprocates their feelings, their relationship was kinda built on facades and falsehoods, as they were covertly working for the very people she was fighting against from the very start.
They can't have one with Ralsei for the exact same reason as there's doubt she would be absolutely devastated to hear that the person she loves the most was working for the very entity that could cause the very apocalypse she's been putting herself through hell to prevent.
They can't have one with Noelle, not only because of their guilt over Dess's disappearance, but also because the plan/promise they got roped into just so happens to involve her mother AND HER LONG LOST SISTER!
And even if those three do forgive Kris (which I actually don't think is unlikely), they're gonna feel like they don't deserve to be forgiven and have a loving relationship with any of them because of how they betrayed and hurt them.
Not to mention that they can't have one with Catti Cattenheimer because they committed the sacriligious act of fulfilling the Suselle agenda.
So yeah, from Kris's perspective, the person most likely to want a lasting, loving relationship with them... IS FRICKIN' BERDLY!
Kris does everything they can to be the best wingthey Susie could ask for during the festival, and this is how she repays them.
Seeing Kris get upset with Susie for the VERY FIRST TIME, and over something as small as wanting to pop a balloon they gifted her, was so shocking to see that it single-handedly proved to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that Kris truly does have a crush on Susie on par with Noelle's.
Throughout the entire game, they've demonstrated not one iota of negative feelings towards her, even when she had badly treated them before their first adventure in the Dark World. Heck, the most negativity they showed towards anyone in the entire game (besides the player) was like being uncomfortable with Asgore hugging them or Toriel's party with Sans. It almost feels out of character for them to be mad with Susie about literally anything, especially as they've always supported and enjoyed the things she does for them, and even the things she does to them, whether it be stealing their food or eating their apple shampoo!
And that's what makes this little moment so impactful, and it truly demonstrates that Kris' feelings toward her have changed so dramatically after seeing Noelle and Susie together! It demonstrates that after seeing Susie and Noelle become an item, they hope that Susie's relationship with them will end up where her relationship with Noelle is now!
As for whether their relationship with her will be romantic, platonic, or queerplatonic... feel free to share your thoughts.
Okay, so you know how Kris will walk Susie back to Castle Town WITHOUT OUR INPUT after getting the balloon for her? Well, it's given me an interesting theory about the level of control we have over them and why they still go along with it!
So it's very clear that Kris has much more self-control than we once thought. Here we see Kris not only resisting our control, but making it seem as if we're not even there! So, with that in mind, why do they still, for the most part, go along with every little input we make?
Well, think about it? Have you ever been frustrated with poor controls or faulty inputs? Have you ever gotten mad when your character fails to follow your commands because of glitches or faulty design? Exactly!
Gaster needs us to fulfill whatever he's doing in this world, as evidenced by the fact that the original download of Chapter 1 was called "SURVEY_PROGRAM". And it's also clear that the SOUL being in Kris is needed for this experiment and that Kris knows they need us to fulfill whatever plan they got roped into. But if Kris keeps resisting our inputs, then the so-called game would be "buggy" and "glitchy," and if we can't play the game properly, then that means it wouldn't be fun, and if it's not fun, then we would leave it, and if we leave it, then Gaster's experiment will remain unfulfilled.
So while Kris can still afford to act independently sometimes, they can't do so too much because, as much as they resent us, they know that we're still a very critical part of this plan, and if they make us "quit the game" because our character won't "follow our inputs," then it would all be for nothing!
What do y'all think?
Btw, I'm referring @lynxgriffin, one of my favourite Suselle artists ever, recently embracing the fact that Krusielle will be endgame.
I'm sorry, I'm just *sobs* so proud of them.
I've seen a lot of Krusie(lle) fans despairmaxxing after seeing this because they interpret this line as, "Susie now sees the lake thing as a romantic thing, and her saying this implies that she doesn't want to take her relationship with Kris there."
Well, what if I told y'all that this does nothing to refute the possibility that Susie will reciprocate Kris's feelings, but it may actually be really good evidence that she might end up doing so!
It's easy to take this at face value and assume that Susie doesn't want to have with Kris what she now has with Noelle. But if you look at the finer details, you'll realize that's not quite the case, because you can learn a lot about how she really feels, not just from what she says, but also HOW she says it and also HOW SHE DOES NOT SAY IT.
If you pay close attention, you'll notice that she corrects herself at the start with, "We... I mean," and that she finishes the sentence by asking herself/Kris, "right?" It may not seem like much, but these two little details matter a whole lot because it shows that SHE'S NOT ACTUALLY SURE OF HERSELF when she tells Kris they don't need to go to the lake together!!! In other words, she may, deep down, actually love to go to the lake with them!!!!!
And this is not the only hint that how she sees her relationship with Kris has changed, because in Snowgrave of all places, she tells Kris this after talking about the Festival King and Queen (and not how she ACTUALLY BLUSHES when she speaks the second line):
So with that in mind, has she not told Kris she wants to be an item with them like she is with Noelle because she really wants to have that kind of relationship with Kris OR PERHAPS BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T THINK KRIS WANTS TO HAVE A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP AND THAT THEY WOULD BE WEIRDED OUT BY IT?!
And what's also interesting is that SHE DOESN'T REFER TO KRIS AS A FRIEND (OR HER RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM AS A FRIENDSHIP) ONCE IN THIS ENTIRE CHAPTER. And that's a huge deal because she was totally fine with calling Kris a friend in the previous Chapter! And yet, she doesn't do so at all in Chapter 5, and it just so happens to be RIGHT AFTER SHE EMBRACES HER ROMANTIC FEELINGS FOR NOELLE!
Gee, it's almost as if her newfound understanding of love and relationships, thanks to her blossoming romance with Noelle, has changed her perspective on her bond with Kris and on what she wants their relationship to be!
So yeah, I guess you can say that when the Suselle domino fell over it ended up hitting the Krusie domino lol.
My little polychart shows y'all how I like to pair up Kris, Noelle, Susie, Ralsei, Berdly, and Catti, and what I would like their relationships to become by the end of the game!
Methinks that Kriselle might actually have a shot of being canon.
Girl, your self-esteem is so low it's being used to explore the Mariana Trench.
Soooooooo are we not gonna talk about the implications of Noelle and Kris managing to hit the bell in the couples hammer game just like Noelle and Susie did?
YOU ALL LAUGHED AT ME WHEN I SAID THAT ROUXLS FORMING A THROUPLE IN A DARK WORLD KRIS MADE THEMSELVES WASN'T EVIDENCE THAT KRIS IS POLYAM OR THAT THEY WOULD END UP IN A POLYCULE BY THE END OF CHAPTER 7!!!!!!!!!!
WELL WHO'S LAUGHING NOW?!?!?!?!?!?!
That dragon has been nothing but a constant source of love, support, and hope for that poor, traumatized human, and yet all of a sudden she's a bad friend because...
*checks notes*
...she really loves Noelle?
Inconsiderate of Kris's feelings, my ass.
Yeah, that easter egg from Chapter 3 really hits different after playing the Chapter 5 Weird Route, doesn't it?
Hey, remember when people thought the only poly rep we were gonna get from this game was Rouxls' doomed throuple?
Yeah, I've got a feeling the next Chapter is gonna be super rough for Kris and Noelle...
