RJ & Ali had dancing up a storm at the Australian Dancesport Championships yesterday. Dancing the style of Latin both. Little bit of Brazilian flavour and reaching the semi-finals in a very competitive category. Placing 10th out of 38 couples. A very memorable and heartbreaking, reality hitting evening. I am not one to post too many things about myself, I am quite a private person. I don't do well with having too much attention on me. But this evening I was thanked by Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia for my contribution to their charity over the years. I have been matched with my little sister for 8 years now and in my 6 fundraisers have raised almost $25,000. It's funny, I still feel like it is never enough, as I believe what Tayla and the BbBs program has given me is much more than I can ever repay. Tayla - please read this till the end as I have a special message for you Xx Tonight, I was reminded of why I do what I do and of the desperate need our young childminder are in right here in our own communities. In 2015, 58,000 children went through our court system on a range of issues and 43,000 out of home children (with foster care, adoption etc). That's 101,000 children in desperate need of a decent mentor, a decent role model. Our government spends millions on out children's court and juvenile system. Programs like BbBs are trying to prevent this, as opposed to just throwing the book at children, putting them in jail and giving up on them. BbBs are trying to pair hundreds of disadvantaged children who, through no fault of their own, have little opportunity to develop positive and robust relationships with a positive role model. Tomorrow, BbBs will be having an end of year donation plea. If you have any change, send them some if you can, or even better apply to be a mentor. It truly has changed my life and I know it will change yours too. As a mentor you will help a young child build resilience, stay at school, improve their relationships with family, community and break the cycle of disadvantage. My Dearest Tayla, you know how I feel. I love you to the moon and back and all over again for ever. Seeing you become the beautiful woman you are today is one of my life's greatest achievements. I will never forget the day we first meet when you were just 12. You have taught me so much about life, and the true meaning of breaking the cycle of disadvantage. I LOVE YOU MY LITTLE SISTER ALWAYS XX

FLASHBACK FRIDAY! We have instructor Ali with her student Gil in October 2014 as he received the highest level medal in the Australian Dancing Society - The Mickey Powell Award. To complete this medal, Gil had to dance 10 dancers - Waltz, English Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep, Excelsior Shottise, La Bomba, Swing Waltz, New Vogue Quickstep and Bacrelona. Gil passed with flying colours and this is proof of his dedication to his dance tuition.
