The 3 Decisions That Shape Your Life
Have you ever wondered why some people seem to flow through life while others struggle with every step?
I used to think it was luck. That some people were just born confident, disciplined, and successful. That they had something I didnât.
But I was wrong.
It all comes down to three decisions we all makeâevery single day, whether we realize it or not. These decisions determine how we feel, how we act, and ultimately, who we become.
And once you understand them, you can stop feeling stuck and start making choices that align with the person you actually want to be.
Letâs break them down.
Decision #1: What You Focus On
Your focus is like a camera lensâyou can zoom in on problems, or you can zoom in on possibilities.
A few years ago, I was at a dance social, completely frozen. I kept watching the best dancers and thinking:
"Iâll never be as good as them."
That one thought ruined my entire night.
Meanwhile, my friendâwho was at the same social, with the same level of experienceâwas having the time of his life.
Why? Because instead of focusing on what he wasnât good at, he focused on something different:
"Every dance is making me better."
Same place. Same skill level. But two completely different realities.
Your focus determines your experience.
Focus on your mistakes â You feel like a failure.
Focus on your progress â You feel unstoppable.
Focus on your weaknesses â You feel insecure.
Focus on your potential â You take action.
The crazy part? Both realities exist. It just depends on where you point your attention.
So the next time youâre feeling stuck, ask yourself:
What am I focusing on right now? And more importantly: Is this focus helping me or holding me back?
Decision #2: What It Means to You (The Beliefs That Shape Your Life)
This one is big.
Everything that happens to you is neutralâuntil you decide what it means.
Letâs say you walk into a dance class, and your teacher corrects you three times in the first five minutes.
You could decide it means:
â âI suck at this.â â âEveryone is watching me fail.â â âI should just quit.â
OR, you could decide it means:
â âWow, Iâm actually learning something new.â â âMy teacher sees potential in me.â â âThis is proof that Iâm growing.â
Same event. Completely different experience.
And hereâs the kicker: The meaning you give things isnât based on âtruth.â Itâs based on your current beliefs.
If you believe failure means youâre not good enough, youâll avoid challenges.
If you believe failure means youâre learning, youâll chase challenges.
If you believe youâre not naturally talented, struggling will feel like proof you should quit.
If you believe talent is built, not born, struggling will feel like proof youâre on the right track.
Your beliefs donât just shape your emotionsâthey shape your purpose.
If you decide that setbacks mean âIâm not cut out for this,â your purpose shrinks. If you decide that setbacks mean âIâm becoming the person I need to be,â your purpose expands.
So hereâs my challenge to you:
Reframe the next obstacle you face. Instead of reacting based on old beliefs, ask yourselfâ
"What belief would my future self choose?"
Because once you change what things mean to you, you change everything.
Decision #3: What Actions You Take
Your focus shapes your emotions. Your emotions shape your meaning. And your meaning drives your actions.
If you believe youâre not ready, youâll wait. If you believe youâre capable, youâll start.
If you believe youâre a confident dancer, youâll step onto the floor without hesitation. If you believe youâre not good enough, youâll hold yourself back.
Every action you take is either reinforcing or rewriting your identity.
A while back, I asked myself a simple but game-changing question:
"What decision would the best version of me make right now?"
And let me tell youâthat question changed everything.
Because instead of acting based on my fears, I started acting based on my future self.
And the more I did that, the more I became that person.
Final Thoughts
Right now, youâre making these three decisions:
đ What will I focus on? đ What does this mean to me? đ What action will I take?
And these decisions are shaping your lifeâwhether you realize it or not.
So if you want different results, start making different decisions.
And if you ever want help becoming the person youâre meant to be, never hesitate to reach out.
Because the person you want to be? They already exist. You just have to start choosing them.
đđș Keep growing, keep dancing, keep becoming.
