Minato in Sage Mode is so beautiful...

Thinking about different clans (particularly in the warring states era) having different swears referencing their beliefs / clan cultures. (Using the word 'swears' in this context as in both curses and vows)

- UZUMAKI

A very spiritual clan who honors both spirits of the lands and some gods, they often reference the sage, sea and spirits.

Ex. "Seas and spirits" / "By the sage" / Spirits guide us." / "Seas help me." / "Currents guide my hand"

Some of their more colorful curses invoke shinigami, but those are primarily saved for enemies. It's considered bad luck to so much as mention the shinigami, bringing their attention to both you and whoever you're directing their name towards, so it's seen as a "I hate you so fucking much I'm gonna set the death gods on BOTH our asses" thing

- UCHIHA

They worship Amaterasu and often invoke her name / reference her as "our lady" in most of their swears

Ex. "Lady preserve us" / "By our lady's grace" / "Lady save me from idiots like you"

- SENJU

A clan that mostly references spirits and the sage.

Ex. "Sage help me" / "Spirits save us"

They will make occasional, off-putting insults usually involving trees, such as "I hope the trees eat you", or "The mulch will savor the taste of your flesh."

- HATAKE

Another very spiritual clan, who prefer to honor the spirits of the land over any single god— though they do make occasional reference to Kaguya-Hime, who they recognize as the moon goddess and usually refer to as either simply the moon or by her full title

Ex. "Spirits preserve us" / "Sage help me" / "By the moon and sage and all that is sacred in this world"

They also make lots of references to storms and thunder, usually in vows. A common vow of truth they'll make goes along the lines of, "May the lightning leave my veins if I lie"

- NARA

More invoking of the sage and spirits. They will also sometimes reference the shadows as if it were a god to invoke.

Ex. "Shadows guide us" / "Sage help me" / "Spirits save us."

Much like the Senju, they occasionally make off-putting references to the woods, such as "I hope the paths eat you" or, "I look forward to the day you get lost in the woods."

By modern times, with Konoha having become a melting pot of clans and cultures, a lot of the more "traditional" curses and names to swear by have dissapeared over time.

Now adays it seems that swearing by the Sage's name has won out as the most common name to invoke, which makes sense as he was the most universal figure in most clan's mythos. Though you'll still occasionally see more creative swears being used by more traditional clans, such as the Uchiha, who still primarily swear by Amaterasu's name

Till they all died, anyways.

Anywho these are just my takes as I ponder fun warring states clan lore. I really only have so much and for so many clans, so if others have additions to make or opinions to share, I'd love to hear it. I'm always looking to add more fun headcanons to my clan lore collection

I always think about how much Ino looks like Naruto in this scene, many of their mannerisms are similar.

I like to think that they were good friends, that Ino gave him some plants and that Naruto asked her to take care of them when he was not in Konoha

shikanaru but its shikamaru being extremely jealous of sasuke

- it all happens after the war, before sasuke is allowed to leave the village again bit after he got out of prison (shikamaru wished he hadn't but thats not something he gets to decide) (the fact that if the hokage wasnt kakashi, sasuke would've probably never been out kinda annoys him but, again, thats not for him to decide)

- theres this period where sasuke has to undergo hospital exams, same with naruto, and they get to spend a LOT of time together. and dont get it wrong, shikamaru doesnt care about that

- god, if anything, good for naruto. he searched for sasuke for like 3+ years and he finally got to have a talk with him without a sword around his neck.

- and he gets it bcs sasuke /is/ his best friend (as much as shikamaru hates that) and shikamaru would've done the same for his best friend choji or ino, even for naruto. naruto would've done the same for sakura or shikamaru himself probably. so he doesnt mind it. at all.

- what he does mind is the way sasuke looks at naruto. like he's giving him the sun & moon & stars, and sasuke wants nothing more but naruto to always be by his side.

- bcs first of all; that's fucked up to do when all naruto did was run after him so he COULD be by his side and sasuke never accepted it.

- and second of all, EVERYONE knows that shikamaru had already replaced that crush naruto had on sasuke when they were kids. he did it long ago, when sasuke wasnt present. he sealed the deal & naruto is his. shikamaru's.

- and as much as he trusts naruto with all his heart, he doesnt trust sasuke

- and he hates that. he hates that it bothers him, he hates that he can't even bring himself to go in between them and break sasuke's other arm as well because the way he places it on naruto's waist, although hes very much aware of shikamaru being right behind them, is fucking annoying.

- but he bites his lip, looks away, grips his upper arm muscle in his fist and continues walking. bcs naruto moves sasuke's arm away on his own. and he makes a comment on it too. bcs naruto is conscious of shikamaru being behind them. bcs naruto wouldn't cheat on him with that guy.

- so shikamaru waits. one day, two days, way too many days until sasuke is finally being allowed to leave without having to come back for check ups, and after all the goodbyes they said to each other, shikamaru knows that the first place naruto would go to would be the nara compound where shikamaru is waiting for him

- 'you managed well.' naruto whispers to him the moment he enters his room and hugs him. theres a smile on his face that shikamaru would probably kiss if he wasn't lowkey pissed at the comment

- 'as if I could do something to a guy with a rinnegan & a history of being on the same level as you.' naruto ends up laying on shikamaru's bed, arms under his head, staring at the ceiling.

- 'I would've allowed you to.' shikamaru cracks up a smirk as he sits on the chair next to his desk. 'had he been a stranger i would've broken his arm that one time.'

- 'he is basically a stranger.'

- 'he's not.'

- 'you barely knew him for less than a year before he left the village. you barely talked to him in the Academy. you spent more time searching for him than actually being friends. hes basically a stranger.'

- 'when you put it like that...' naruto sits up on his hands, facing shikamaru. 'then why didnt you say something at least'

- 'bcs hes your best friend ig. and you spent years looking for him. you probably needed all that.'

- 'he is a friend, thats true. my best friend though? I mightve though that for a while, but hm... not anymore. it changed a while back.'

- 'oh yeah? whos it now then? gaara? sai?'

- 'you.'

- 'I am already your boyfriend.'

- 'and best friend. and partner. and my right arm. and my future husband. you can be all that. you dont have to be only my boyfriend.'

- 'youre asking for a lot of things from me.'

- 'do you mind?'

- 'no.'

- they spend the next few hours just cuddling while shikamaru shares the amount of plans he had in mind to kill sasuke during the days he was roaming free in the city. they were many. pretty creative. very calculated. around 50% of them would've probably succeeded.

- shikamaru, later on, ranks the plans by more likely to succeed to 'i was just fucking petty and didnt analyse everything'. naruto loves those petty plans more bcs it usually ends up with sasuke getting embarrassed & shikamaru looking like prince charming. and naruto loves seeing shikamaru confident.

- years later, when naruto becomes hokage and sasuke has to come to the village and get sent on missions, he never talks to naruto unless shikamaru is in the room, or he simply has to go to shikamaru for his reports. he tries complaining and is hit with multiple reasons as to why naruto cant have every report given to him directly as the hokage and most powerful person in konoha and sasuke will have to deal with shikamaru if he wants to finish his business there and leave again.

- naruto loves the reports he gets from shikamaru when he doesnt get to speak with sasuke and the reports usually end up with shikamaru in front of the desk and naruto mounting over him. sasuke hours away from konoha. just like shikamaru likes it.

- shikamaru is not overprotective. he just HATES sasuke. (hes not the only one).

The way Konoha is built on the back of Uzumaki women and yet some people (and a good part of the story itself) have the audacity to pretend is not about them.

Konoha wouldn't be there if it wasn't for Mito and the rasengan wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Kushina

When everybody was scared shitless of Kurama? Yes, Mito and Kushina hold it back with their own bodies and the Uzumaki chains. They were sent away from their homes, they carried the burden of the strongest tailed beast, they had their own political aspirations, they saved Konoha with their own powers, married and birthed half the Hokage line (Mito married Hashirama, Tsunade is their granddaughter; Kushina married Minato and they had Naruto) and through it all that they remained kind, they remained loving, hopeful, strong.

Mito SEALED herself with Kurama. The Uzumaki clan was terrifying on its own and yet Kushina had particularly strong chakra for their standards.

Kushina's story is particularly rough because she was brought to Konoha without her knowing what her job would entail. No one told her, because it was a secret between the Third Hokage and some of the elders. She was kidnapped as a kid, she had to live in isolation most of her life— it was Minato who helped change her situation. Even then, she was able to withstand the pain of giving birth as a jinchuuriki, she survived Kurama being extracted from her body, and had enough chakra to still use the Uzumaki chains against Kurama.

( that's before Minato sealed half of Kurama's power with the Reaper Death seal!!! )

I don't know why Mito and Kushina are reduced to the role of a dead mother, but it's bullshit.
