I have so many questions BUT there’s this idea that’s been festering in my brain. So sorry if this is a bit pushy or rude, it’s just not many people know these things existed? Again, sorry this is your world, your story.

There’s a thing known as Toothpick shooter clothespin or Mini matchstick gun, pretty much made the same way, which is really easy too. And I think would be a good equivalent to crossbows!

Wouldn’t really overshadow the knights, because they can’t really mass-produce it. Also, can only reload them one at a time, which is anxiety inducing when the enemy can just fly away.🐝

So are only used for the defense of the kingdom or given to those that have mastery.

yo thats a really awesome idea. the bugs do use crossbows for weapons (especially brambelle since she uses aim-based weapons). i had previously imagined them widdling sticks and twigs into vague crossbow shapes

i'm gonna try and follow this drawing advice and draw one thing a day, and post them here every 3-5 days

in The Butterfly Soldier, there are a lot of background bee characters since it takes place in a fantasy bee colony, so i want to get used to drawing tons of generic cartoon bee NPCs

[drawn throughout mid-April and May 2026] Thistle is supposed to have knight armor at some point in the story. I have never really drawn armor before so I’ve been desperately trying to get the hang of that... There hasn't been much other art because I've accumulated at least 8 pages of me just tryna figure out his armor oh my god. He still keeps his other outfits but the armor will most likely be his main look. (It’s made out of shells of other bugs) (him having extra arms is NOT HELPING!!!) You can kinda see me slowly figure it out here...

I really want to draw these guys more, there's handful of cool characters, like Clover (Thistle's mentor in some of the sketches) and Amaranth (their Queen) that I haven't fully designed yet.
