Rest easy, MF Doom.
The sublime collaboration between Karen O and Danger Mouse has produced the adventurous new album Lux Prima.
Hey, I learned and enjoyed things from this segment.
Off-topic, but I have to say... I hate every single thing about the new Black Keys’ album title and artwork. Like, to the point that I think slightly less of them as people.
If you haven’t had a look, the album is called “Let’s Rock” (with the quotation marks) and the cover art is a drawing of an electric chair. They’re out in the streets telling people it’s a reference to a guy that was executed in Nashville last year by electric chair and “Let’s Rock” were his last words.
So some ordinary lowlife guy -- hard life, probably low IQ / developmental disabilities -- murders a couple of men in a robbery. Spends a couple of decades in prison while the State of Tennessee decides when and how the sanctioned vengeance will go down. Families deal with the fallout of their loved ones’ brutal murders. Their dudes went out to buy some weed and got their throats slit.
Eventually the guy has a choice between lethal injection and electric chair and, for whatever reason, he chooses the chair. Just before he’s murdered by the state in a particularly grotesque way, he says “let’s rock”. And that’s....inspirational? funny? a good hook for a rock album in 2019?
I know if I were trying to put out a straightforward rock album in the present day, “pathetic and sad” is not a story I’d want associated with my work. But here we are.
I don’t dislike the songs that have been released from the record so far. But the title and cover, and the fact that they thought that was cool, makes me feel ashamed of them.

Hi
I've decided that, if there's any news at all, I'm just going to do an occasional round-up post from here on out. I’m not nuking the blog, or deleting archives or anything, just going off-duty.
Because:
I'm, like, making my dreams come true and stuff IRL
Most of the people I chatted about music with on this site have drifted off
The powers that be have consistent (if deeply unexciting) social media presences of their own now and music journalism has died, for all intents and purposes. The official sources are pretty much the only sources now, and they're readily available to anyone interested.
Even when music journalism was more of a thing, it's been years since I read anything new/interesting/amusing/inspiring in an interview or guest DJ spot or whatever. If it's all been said...well, I guess it's time to move on.
It's been six years, surely that's long enough.
See ya
ooh, a color polaroid. And a vague gesture toward the future to go with it.
Karen O and Danger Mouse
First piece from the KO and DM project, called Lux Prima.
In the NME, KO says there may be some live dates, though not a tour.

Not a lot of details I can see yet, but there’s a new project with its own social media whatnot that looks like a duo-collaboration between DM and Karen O, probably called Lux Prima.
The ig has some background music as well as visuals.
KO has guested on projects like Resistance Radio and Daniele Luppi’s Milano, as well as working with Michael Kiwanuka earlier this year. Super nerds will recall that talk of collaborations between DM and KO go back to, like, the Bush administration.
Michael Kiwanuka posted what appears to be a behind the scenes look at his new album, with a familiar face (feat. Kennie Takahashi on back-of-the-head portrait duties)
No real news, but another one of those b&w photos
