Making Animation
The last thing I had to do was create an animation of the instagram stories. I started off with the Rue Ash gold logo making in bigger and then smaller again. I saved each frame one by one and added all of them to a file called “Story 1″.
I saved each set of frames in its own file so I would know how they followed each other.
FORESTVILLE - For the second story, I used a close up photo of a tropical leaf and then added thick font all around. For the movement I deleted the fill and added a stroke on every other word and then kept changing it. I also deleted every other word in the middle for every other frame so they were flashing once the animation was done. The third one was also for the Forestville perfume and I wanted the word to travel smoothly down the photo like a raindrop would and that’s why this was the story with the most frames. For every small movement I would save the frame. I ended up with 120 frames for this animation.
OVERKILL - For the first part of the Overkill story, I used a closeup photo of oranges and then added the word Overkill 8 times. I made every other word filled and the others without a fill, just the stroke and it made the flashing effect again which I think makes it really noticeable. On the second story. I used a photo of the Overkill perfume placed on top of a bunch of orange slices. I turned it on its side so the bottle is easier to look at and it also adds an interesting illusion. I started adding orange circles all around the bottle saving frames one by one. It made a nice smooth animation of filling the empty space.
BLUISH RED - For the first part I used a photo of the raindrops on the window and added the font which I warped in Illustrator and then copied to the Photoshop file. I changed the colours of the letters in Photoshop. I started turning the outer words to the right and the inner words to the left, saving each frame. After that, I used guides to split the photo I imported in 10 pieces. I selected each piece with the Rectangular Marquee Tool, copied and then pasted it. I deleted the original photo under the cut outs and hid the layers of all the cut outs except the first one. I made them visible one by one saving the file each time. Then, I made some circles with the Elliptical Marquee Tool and changed the blending mode to vivid light on all of them. I was turning them and changing the opacity with each frame. At the end it reminded me of raindrops again and how they move and reflect in the light.

Editing Sand Photos
I wanted to create a photo where there’s a perfume bottle and the logo imprinted in the sand. I got the inspiration while doing research on different perfumes. A lot of them had imprinted bottles and logos in a sand or some kind of a dust.
MOODBOARD
I took photos of the imprint in the sand first and then looked for an online tutorial to learn how to imprint my brands logo in the sand in Photoshop.
This was the tutorial I watched and listened to while I was editing the photo.
This is how the photo looked at the beginning. I edited the sand photo first and then added the black png file to it. I then changed the bleeding mode to Soft Light and reduced the Fill to 15%.
These were the setting of the Layer Style -> Bevel & Emboss. What I think really helped made it look real was the fact that I sampled the Highlight and the Shadow colours from the actual and photo.
This was the ending result. I had to delete the rue and ash words on the side of RA because they were not visible enough.
Christmas Gift Box
Final Photoshoot / Christmas Box
For this photoshoot, I prepared the box and the ornaments a day before. I also ordered some sand and clay because they would be fun for some additional photos.
White clay with the perfume bottle imprint on it.
Brown clay with the bottle imprint on it.
The sand that I bought was kinda wet which made it better for the imprinting of the perfume bottle. I also took some photos of just the regular sand which I could use for different backgrounds or edit it in photoshop with the logo.
The box I painted with the painted Oasis foam in it. I bought all the gold decorations on amazon an I think they go great with the black box and the black silk background which is one of my robes.
Christmas Gift Box Examples
1. Chloe
These two Chloe Christmas Gift Boxes were my favourite. They are both simple and only have nude colours with added gold shine over some of the details. The first one has a simple sleigh and their perfume in it and the second one has hanging “baubles” in shape of their perfume and the initial of their logo in the round ones. The first one contains a perfume, a lotion and s small travel size perfume.
2. Michael Kors
I love this Michael Kors box because it’s all gold but the logo and the bow are still standing out. This Christmas box includes three different signature Michael Kors fragrances.
3. Ralph Lauren
This Ralph Lauren Box is also gold with their logo in the middle but had a bunch of snowflakes all around the sides of the box. I also like the packaging of the actual products with the gold caps. The box includes one 100ml perfume, a small 50ml travel one and a body lotion with the same fragrance.
4. Chanel
Chanel took it a step further with making pop out cut outs of Christmas trees and deer. The perfume is positioned in the centre and there are gold snowflakes, stars and logos on the white background.
Creating a Gift Box
1. I couldn't find a black box that was the right size anywhere so I decided to paint the brown box with the black spray paint.
2. I cut the Oasis foam to be 5cm wide so it would fit the width of the box.
3. After that, I took all three perfume bottles and pressed them inside of the Oasis foam so it forms the shape and so they could fit in it.
4. I wanted the foam to match the box so I spray painted it black too.
Instagram Stories
I have made some edits of what my Instagram Stories would look like. The first one is the gold logo with the background of one of the patterns. On the second one I edited the photo of the leaf and then added the font all around it. The third story is the photo of the actual perfume that was named in the previous story. I did that for all three perfumes - a story of a macro photo with the font and then the matching perfume bottle following it. The last story is empty because I am making a Christmas Box that would include all three perfumes. I am creating the packaging and then photographing it all together with some props.
Rue Ash Branding Guidelines
These are the branding guidelines for my brand.
1. ALTERNATIVE LOGOS
My first alternative logo is my original logo with the RA inverted so the actual letters are white with the black outline. The second one is with the original black RA letters but the rue and ash on the side are inverted and positioned vertically instead of horizontally.
2. SUBMARKS
A submark is a simplified version of my logo that can be easily used at smaller sizes but is still consistent with my brand. I only used the RA letters for those and used different colours and overlays in photoshop for it.
3. COLOUR PALETTE
The colour palette for Rue Ash was based off of the submarks that I created. I made five squares with the Rectangle Tool and then extracted the most obvious colours with the Eyedropper Tool to colour the squares.
4. FONT
The font is the same for the RA and the rue ash letters and I showed what it looks like in Upper Case, Lower Case and numbers.
5. INSTAGRAM HIGHLIGHT ICONS
I made a couple of highlight icons that brands use on their Instagram pages to inform their followers of their products, prices or just share some product photos.
6. PATTERNS
The patterns were all made in Photoshop. I made two with the Photoshop brushes and the other two with the Rue Ash logo. I used overlays and Fill option to fill the canvas with the pattern. I want to use the patterns for the paper in the box or maybe even on the actual box for the perfumes.
All four patterns
Primary Research
Because I wasn't able to to travel anywhere this couple of months other than to college, I decided to do the primary research of botanicals in my local park.
1.Cortaderia selloana
Also known as Pampas Grass. It is a flowering plant in the Poaceae family and is native to South America. It is named after the South American region called Pampas. It has been banned in Hawaii and New Zealand because of its ability to outgrow and displace native plants. In Europe, it was first introduced in the United Kingdom where it is still really popular in front and back gardens.
2. Rosehip
Rosehip is the accessory fruit of the rose plant. It is also called rose haw and rose hep. It is typically red or orange, but ranges from dark purple to black depending on the species. Rose hips begin to form after successful pollination of flowers in spring or early summer, and ripen in late summer through autumn. Some people use it for their autumn and winter decorations.
3. Cypress Tree
There are nearly two-dozen types of Cypress trees in the world, though the heartiest versions grow in North America. The most popular ones are Leyland Cypress, Arizona Cypress, Bald Cypress and Italian Cypress. Cypress is a common name for various coniferous trees or shrubs of northern temperate regions.
4. Red osier dogwood
Or Cornus sericea, is a species of flowering plant in the family Cornaceae, native throughout northern and western North America. It can also be called red brush, red willow or American dogwood.
5. Common Nettle
Urtica dioica, often known as common nettle, stinging nettle or nettle leaf is a herbaceous perennial flowering plant in the family Urticaceae. It was originally native to Europe but it is now found worldwide, including New Zealand and North America. Nettles are the larval food plant for several species of butterflies, such as the peacock butterfly, comma butterfly and the small tortoiseshell butterfly.

Bluish Red
Bluish Red Photoshoot #2
Over the weekend I decided to try something else with the Bluish Red Perfume so I filled the batch with a little bit of water and plucked some of the petals from a tulip that I had.
I took some photos of the perfume itself first. Because the background just looked white and the water wasn't visible, I tried moving the water around to create some movement.
I didn't like how the bottle looked under the water so I added a small clear box under it and let some of the water out so it would only cover the bottom of the bottle while it was laying down. After that I also added the tulip petals.
