Fanart of "The invisible guardian" ("El guardián invisible"), the noir fiction written by Dolores Redondo. I liked this book and I made an illustration of Elizondo graveyard, the town where the action takes place.

I am fascinated by certain artworks. One of these is "The Isle of the Dead". I still remember how troubled I felt the first time I saw it. I did my own versions of the famous canvas.

Korea.

Busy people and nice food.

Interesting place to visite. Korean culture is not so well known as Japanese and sometimes people think both are very close to each other. Yes and no; neither people’s personality (I think) nor traditional architecture are the same. So close physically but many big differences. For me it is a place of contrasts, where you can find poverty and misery just next to the hiper-technological and wealthy world. You can hardly find that in Japanese cities or the countryside.

I think of Korea and Japan as Spain and France. Similar but different in so many aspects.

"Porco Rosso" is one of my favourite animation films. I especially love the concept art and the characters. I really like the main character, a man turned into a pig, his instrospective mood, the way he walks and talks, one would say he's alive. He reminds me the kind of characters that Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte use to write about.

This summer I had the chance to go to Nagasaki Prefectural Museum, in Japan. By the time an exhibition of the anniversary of Ghibli Animation Studio (that produced once "Porco Rosso") were held. It was amazing. Surrounded by original artpieces, handrawn keyshots, calligraphies, personal notes of the crew, etc. It was all written in Japanese and I think I was the only foreigner in the museum. True story! The ambience was so nice and magical that I could have stayed there the whole day. There was also replicas of the aircrafts shown in the films! Everything was fantastic.

In 1964 in Zambia, Edward Makuka Nkoloso claimed to have the technology to reach the Moon. He had his own space program, astronauts (known as the "Afronauts") and what we can call a "space rocket". He asked the UNESCO and private investors big amounts of money to fund his project. Was Nkoloso crazy, a crook, a genius or a bit of each of these? Soon later the Zambian space program was shutted down because lack of focus of the Afronauts, Nkoloso said. I imagined some promotional posters of a modern private space program, some kind like Space-X, but home-made, like Mr. Nkoloso made in his day.
