dragongirlfinnigan:
Erin could always tell when someone was watching her draw. The shadow did most of the telling, and she could practically feel the person craning over her and looking at the paper. She turned and pulled the paper into their line of vision and smiled. “It’s just a dragon. See?”
“Yeah, I can see that,” Daniella commented flatly, falling into the seat next to Erin, “I’m pretty sure that’s all I’ve ever seen you draw.”
alice-ii:
“You,” Alice mused in return, raising her finger up to point at Daniella. “ Are just too kind to me, lay off.” Chuckling, she gently poked the girl’s shoulder before relaxing her body against the bar edge. “You’ve got the knack too, give yourself some credit. The two of us back together, we could fuck some real shit up.”
“Fucking shit up sounds like exactly what I need right now,” Daniella replied, smirking. She took another large swig of her beer. “Whatever happens, I think more alcohol is required.”
notlittlelucyweasley:
“What are you talking about? I do talk to you. We talk all the time.” Lucy argued, feeling her defensiveness spike. She knew what Daniella was implying but she still couldn’t bring herself to talk about what had happened. Not with Daniella or anyone else. Even her family couldn’t be trusted with the information. “I came over here to see you didn’t I?”
“You know what I mean, Lucy,” Daniella said, her voice sounding more exasperated than she’d intended. But she was losing patience. And she’d never been very good at masking how annoyed she was, anyway.
alice-ii:
“True. At least there’s some solace in knowing that no matter where we end up, we’ll still be able to get up to all sorts of nonsense. I mean, not the same by any means, but there’s still fun left to be had.” Alice was at least chasing after it as best she could, not letting her party die. Each day was meant to be truly lived.
“You’re always good at finding the fun, Alice,” Daniella pointed out, musing for a moment before finishing her thought, “It’s nice to... I dunno, see that you’ve still got that knack even if Hogwarts is closed.” Affection had never been Daniella’s strong suit but her former roommate did have a place in her heart. There was something about living with someone like Alice Longbottom for six years that would endear anyone to her.
notlittlelucyweasley:
“Will you stop staring at me like I’m some sort of exhibit and say something?” Lucy snapped, harsher than she’d intended. She had gotten so sick and tired of being stared at. By people that passed her on the street, by her family, and the face that constantly haunted her nightmares. It was like she was some sort of mobile freak show and it had begun to grate at her already distressed nerves.
Daniella was noticeably taken aback by Lucy’s words, and her mouth gaped open for a moment. It wasn’t like the other to snap so easily. But, as Daniella considered it, she had been through a lot. Although her not sharing exactly what ‘a lot’ entailed was part of the problem. “Maybe I would if you’d actually talk to me,” she replied, the statement coming out more hurt than accusatory. Daniella herself wasn’t a big talker, but there came a point when the silence grew deafening.
alix-delacroix:
Alix pouted down at the other girl. “You need to let loose a little, you know that right?” She crossed her arms, still looking down at the grumpy gus.
“So I’ve been told,” Daniella said, although she herself thought she was quite adventurous. She just wasn’t the type of person to do something as frivolous as dancing on a table. It felt more like putting on a show for others rather than having actual fun for herself. Drinking games and friendly competitions were more her alley.
notlittlelucyweasley:
“That’s good.” Lucy said, not sure of what else she should say. She remained quiet, feeling an uncomfortable awkwardness settle over them and the conversation. This hadn’t happened to them before.
Daniella’s eyes were drawn towards Lucy even as she felt the uncomfortableness settle in. Her mind wandered, as it often did, to the one question she always wanted to ask but never could. The thought that had been nagging her since Lucy had returned. What exactly had happened to her? Lucy never wanted to talk about it and as understanding as Daniella tried to be, she still wanted to know. To help. To catch the bastards that had done this to her girlfriend and make them pay.
Still, she never asked. But her patience was wearing dangerously thin. She wasn’t sure how long she could keep this up. The silence continued but Daniella didn’t look away from Lucy. It felt as though she was both at a loss for words and filled with too many words to choose the right ones.
alice-ii:
“I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently. I mean we got robbed of our last year. That was meant to be ours for the taking and just, it’s gone.” Alice already knew she couldn’t go back however. Life outside the castle had started whether she was ready for it or not. “What do you think we would have been doing right now?”
Daniella shook her head, smiling ruefully. Having an incomplete education wasn’t exactly what she’d been hoping for, and she definitely missed the castle. But like Alice, she knew there was no going back. “Avoiding Transfiguration homework and running around the grounds,” she answered, “Probably drinking or having a smoke, as well. So at least things aren’t completely different.”
alix-delacroix:
Alix rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. “Well aren’t you a spoil-sport.” She thought for a moment before reaching down for the other girl. “Okay, you’re coming up here with me.”
“No,” Daniella replied simply, shaking her head, “That’s not happening.” She’d never been a fan of dancing, and certainly not the kind that required getting up on top of tables.
alice-ii:
With a swig and another gulp, Alice made her first dent into this pint, already feeling like this one would need a little more time than the others. “Well my lungs and liver have been training for this for years, so I guess tonight might be the test.”
“As a witness to all of the shit you used to get up to back in our dormitory days, I’d say you trained well,” Daniella replied, a small smirk gracing her features, “‘Course I wasn’t much better.” Both girls had gotten into their fair share of mischief at Hogwarts. Daniella sometimes doubted her Sorting, she figured there was at least a little bravery in all the underage drinking she’d done.
alice-ii:
“Yes, I can cheers to that. Especially considering I’ve already smoked through a third of my pack today.” A chuckle followed before their glasses clinked and Alice was shouting out loud enough for more than just the close vicinity to hear. “To our health!”
Daniella chuckled along with Alice, having smoked quite a bit herself that day. She took a big gulp of beer after their glasses had clinked. “Our health,” she repeated, “Hopefully our lungs and livers will survive the night.”
alix-delacroix:
“Oh, excuse me-do you mind? Thank you,” Alix leaned on the person beside her as she climbed up onto the table with a hoot. “Is it really a pub crawl if someone doesn’t dance on a table?”
Daniella moved to the side, her reflexes a bit lax due to the alcohol in her system. Normally she wouldn’t have let the other girl lean on her for even a second. “I reckon it’s still a pub crawl if no one dances on the table,” she muttered into her pint, “And probably a better one.”
alice-ii:
“Well, I picked my last one. That was a cheers to broom polish, so don’t know how that happened, so I wouldn’t trust me. Take it away, your pick.” Alice laughed to herself even if nothing was funny about it, raising her glass up in celebration.
Daniella shook her head, feeling her eyes rolling almost out of habit. “Broom polish,” she muttered in amusement. Only Alice. “How about we just drink to our health? Can’t beat that. It’s a classic.”
notlittlelucyweasley:
“It’s going alright. I’d missed seeing the creatures every day.” Lucy reached out and interwove her fingers with Daniella’s. “How is the pub? Have you been getting a lot of hours lately?”
“Oh, I’ve got plenty of hours,” Daniella said, running a hand through her hair. In truth it was almost too many hours. The money was good, and she was glad to be helping her mother out with the bills, but working so much was taking a toll on her. Particularly when it wasn’t exactly what she had hoped to be doing after getting out of school.
alice-ii:
“So here’s the thing.” Alice spoke up as she finally got a pint of beer in hand, turning to the person at her side. “I’ve made a pact that I would cheers to something different each drink, with somebody different, and I believe we have yet to share a drink.”
“Well,” Daniella said, turning to face Alice, her own pint lifted high, “I’d be more than willing to toast with you, but this all depends on what we’re cheers-ing to.”
notlittlelucyweasley:
“Of course I wanted to see you.” Lucy replicated Daniella’s smile. “I started working with Luna again though and I’ve been busy.” She had thrown herself into her work after she had been cleared to return. It was easier around animals than it was people. They didn’t expect answers from her.
“Really? How’s that going?” Daniella asked. She knew that Lucy liked the work that she did, and maybe it would be good for her. Something as routine as working could help her feel like things were going back to normal.
