Everton v Arsenal Match Review 22.10.17
Billed as a must win for both teams, at least by the fans, the game started fairly evenly. Arsenal edging it with possession but Pickford was saving everything that was thrown at him. Xhaka lost the ball, it looked a foul to me. Rooney got a hold of it, took a couple of touches, wasn’t closed down and scored a beauty right into the top left corner. I genuinely thought, they couldn’t do a Watford, could they? Eventually, Arsenals possession and pressure paid off. A shot from Xhaka was palmed away by Pickford, Monreal reacted quickest to lash the ball into the net (1-1). Keeping Arsenal out for the majority of the second half to take it all out of Everton, because in the second half they crumbled.
Alexis teed up Ozil who guided the ball into the goal with his head to make it 2-1. Then Ozil became assister and pulled the ball back to Lacazette who neatly made it 3. Sub and ever-popular Arsenal midfielder Wilshere put Ramsey through who scored Arsenal’s 4th before Sanchez nicely rounded it off. Everton did have a second with Niasse after a mix-up between Cech and Monreal but by then they had already conceded 4.
Professional performance by Arsenal who found the wounded beast and completely unleashed on them, in fairness it could have been 6,7,8 if they had been more clinical in the first half. Everton fans even at 1-0 up seemed cagey. This could spell the end for Koeman. Even though Moyes is linked with every available job at present, returning to Everton to manage the superstar he first gave a chance to, would make a beautiful story. Time will tell. Everton meanwhile sit in the bottom three. Something’s gotta change.
