Okay I'm going to talk about what happened at work yesterday under a cut because it's pretty much going to be a rant...
Yesterday was a Good Day. I got my check, opened a 'travel savings account' that I can't access unless it's in person or through the phone(No ATM or online access) which will help me to keep the money where it needs to be rather than just pull it out because I want to eat out.
Then I went back to Forever 21 to shop and had my friend Carlos and a couple other people, mostly visuals, pick out an outfit for me to get.
All in all from 3pm until I started work it was a good night.
I saw who I'd be working with when we clocked in at 6:30pm and I was thrilled because I knew they'd been here a while and knew their stuff and wouldn't be hard to work with.
Nancy(my head co-manager) was in a very bad mood, clearly, and was very obviously nervous about something, my guess was that it was because our new store manager was closing with us and she wanted to impress him.
So she skimmed a lot, which she rarely does, then put everyone in Sale to clean it up before assigning sections. I was kept in Sale, by myself I might add(Sale is the biggest section of our store) and spent most of 6:45pm to 10pm talking to customers and servicing etc which is what we're supposed to do.
Nancy came by a few times and said I was doing okay(I'm someone who thrives on encouragement and words of affirmation so this was very good, I don't do well without feedback), so I kept doing what I was doing.
When the store closed the tables turned completely. Everything was wrong, everything was bad, everything was terrible. And it was my fault, of course.
Kim, another manager, started 'cheerleading' but it was more in-your-face 'HURRY THE FUCK UP!' and less 'Good job guys keep up the good work'.
By 11:30pm I was exhausted and emotionally drained from trying to impress the managers and keep them happy.
Eventually Kim moved me to the other side of Sale and told me I had a minute to zone(clean up) each rounder. Let me just preface with the fact that it takes me at least five minutes to do each one even a little bit nicely.
So after ten minutes of utter harassment from her I started crying when she said 'Dani you're still on that one?!' which both embarrassed me and made me feel worse.
The night continued in that way.
I cut my finger and told Nancy I was going to wash my hands and she rolled her eyes at me. I meekly walked away, washed my hands then got back to work.
I heard her yell at two of the sweetest girls at the store for menial things and watched the store manager look more and more annoyed as the hours went on... like we were personally offending him by taking so long. It's a big fucking store, ok?
At 1am Nancy told me, and two other girls to go to the back(the Dock) and break down rolling racks and put them away.
So it took us about fifteen minutes to do that and when we came back, the store was a ghost town. Everyone was gone.
We ran to clock out, then grabbed our stuff and when we got downstairs Nancy asked us what we were doing.
I held my tongue and said 'Breaking the racks' rather than saying 'OUR JOB!' like I wanted to.
Then I finally, exhausted and sleepy, got to call my mom. (It takes about 15-20 minutes for her to get to me especially at fucking 1am)
Nancy had the nerve to ask why I didn't call sooner.
I told her, with a smile and good attitude, it was because the last two times I did that it took us another hour to finish and my mom/brother was left waiting for me all that time.
She just shook her head and walked back into the main building as I waited for my ride in the little section between outside and inside with two other girls.
All in all, we were all pissed, and just about all ready to walk out.
