Like a Heart to Heart

so ... I do a buncha weird stuff with audio; I'm pretty obsessed with playing with people's voices ... and, separately, I also have a lot of worst-case-scenario thoughts and I was really scared that Blair would have to go like a month or so without talking. It hardly seems the case now that she is breaking all land speed records for recovery, etc.

BUT ... back in November I asked if she wanted to respond to some prompts via voice notes so that I could make something for Frankie and Smokey to listen to ~~~~ the thought of them going for so long without hearing her voice was breaking my heart. B was game cuz B is the game-iest, and this wacky thing is where I landed.

Eli sent me a pic of B bopping in her hospital bed to the track and I suggested that I share it more widely with this Tumblr fam b/c I know I learned more about B and was comforted by what I always think of as a breath-level connection. Scrolling the internet this morning and these photos immediately made me think of Blair. All the elements; fire, earth, air, passion - combining in the essence of not only a muse but a powerhouse dancing with fire.

the other day eli was trying to explain gallows humor to our soon-to-be-nine daughter. haha it was p awesome. in early oct as i was starting to go out of my mind with biopsies and waiting and such, i took the girls to value village. such a favorite always. we had to take a scythe i mean. so good. and then we went to Hovander this old dutch homestead that has cute animals. frankie was chasing me with the scythe yelling “im coming for u!” and “this is your time!” it was totally amazing. right up mom’s alley lol. i was in heaven.

this mcqueen is dark humor and beauty striking such a good lil tune. suits my mood if i were going to a christmas party. thanks twitter.

Here’s what I’m currently reading. It’s definitely genre fiction, but anything noir is pretty much catnip for me. And the flat style is kind of a vibe - very analogous to the gray PNW skies this time of year. It’s about a group of high schoolers in Japan, one of whom is a murderer.

A friend recommended this book to me (image links to publisher page) upon hearing of B’s current situation, and then I found out that B and JPow are wholehearted disciples.

It’s likely others here have already read it but I wanted to share in case some could also use the nudge. Maybe we could even introduce (or maybe I mean are we currently sort of introducing) a bit of a book club vibe into the posts here from time to time; reflections, call-outs, dog-eared pages...

we cant recommend that Grand Hyatt highly enough. It was the best four days of all time. Had a doc appt yest as we left town basically. Met with the surgeon most likely to do the surgery. I like him a lot tho he wishes to do an even larger surgery! It is intimidating, but I feel very very buoyed and supported by yall and my fam.

tonight’s our last night at the GRAND HYATT seattle 🥺🙏. Ive enjoyed it to the absolute maximum. A perfect diversion - so happy we found a few days for this. The girls deserve it sm.

Tomorrow afternoon I will meet with the surgeon most likely to perform my big surgery. dr Golden at Swedish Hospital. I am trying to look forward to it in the sense that it will speed me along to the other side of this round of…cancer chores. I would be lying by omission, though, if I didnt confess to these appointments rattling me. Usually, about two hours after an appt, I flip out for one to three days. Identifying these patterns ofc is helpful to see that they are just this: little formations of neurons that repeat their dance of survival dutifully. Eli has come to know the patterns, too, so it feels like when the landlord announces he is gonna stop by and take a look around.

What can yall do? You do it already. Shooting me a text or just posting yalls lives online for me to look at is so fortifying. I am your enthusiastic and loving observer. And the grateful recipient of your supportive consideration. means everything!

In 1994 when my father was writing the Aerosmith Bio “Walk this Way,” I ended up being the lucky recipient of lots of free concert tickets, a gigantic boon to my early teen life. Mary Blair, Georgie, Ems, and many other old friends used to join us at Great Woods in Mansfield MA for shows not dissimilar to this “Monsters of Rock” show. There were apple pipes, and hanging out back stage, busted ear drums, so much dancing, and just a general wholesome spirit of teen freedom - rare in a time before we even had learner’s permits. I recently found this relic in “Narnia” and immediately MBTH popped into my ken. #americanchildhood #aerosmith #greatwoods #the90s #massachusetts
