Now, this is (almost) hotly (kind of) debated (by me and my mate, Jenny), but I'm going to come out and say that Drum & Bass was invented in 1971, by Keith Jarrett.
It took a long time to lose the trumpets and stick a compressor over the kick, but we got there eventually.
Musicians called Alex
People called Alex make awesome music. One of life's greatest joys is listening to music that was made by people called Alex.
Alex Q (Beatport)
Alex Dias (Beatport)
Alex Turner (iTunes)
Alex Patterson (Beatport)
The list is endless, and I'm not going to sit here writing an endless list. That's a mugs game. But while I was checking the internet to see if anyone else had noticed this uncanny phenomenon, I came across a tribe of 'very talented', philanthropic musicians called Alex who use their music powers to help the children at a special school; and a teenager called Alex who is the best pianist you've ever seen, despite his battle with severest case of cystic fibrosis you've ever seen.
Drake Music (Bay Tree Special School)
A Boy Called Alex (You Tube)
People called Alex are like... heroes of music or something. If you know a musician named Alex, show them you love them today!
OK, so listening to this track is like Jessica Alba whispering "I love you" in your ear. Better, in fact, because I can listen to this track in bed on a Sunday morning with my wife. Anyway, I digress.
Burn Burn (Beatport)
It's difficult to find music with Keely Timlin's voice on it. The other one I found is a track by Feygin called "Saying Goodbye", which is a nice track but her vocals aren't as lush as on this one and actually sound a bit off key in places. I don't know if that's her fault or Feygin's.
Saying Goodbye (Beatport)
Also on Nightbird and well worth checking out is the ADE Sampler 2011. Moti Brothers' "Relax" and Ferdy's "High Roads" are particular favourites of mine, for what it's worth.
