January ‘19 Round Up

New Year, New Memes

Had an absolutely crackin’ start to 2019 with one of my short films being shown in the London Short Film Festival (11-12 Jan). Moonage Ice Cream (AKA David Bowie the Shape Shifter) was included in the WTF!: Outside the Box programme at Regent Street Cinema alongside some of the weirdest and most creatively bizarre films you’d find showing in London.

Was an absolute pleasure to be included in the festival. Had a blast seeing my film up on the big screen (only a minute but a roller coaster of emotions!) and for it to be shown alongside such creative and brilliant films was a real honour. After the programme, myself and the other filmmakers present got up on stage for a brief Q&A:

Some other great news I got during the festival was that the film had made it into the London Short Film Festival Official Competition! Nominated for the “2019 Random Acts Award for the Best Short Film under 5 minutes”. Sadly didn’t win but a great experience and still absolutely flabbergasted that a silly one-minute film that I spent 9 months tinkering with in my spare time as a hobby made it into a festival and its official competition. 

Works in Progress

Hoping to be a bit more prolific this year in the amount of creative work I do. Got a few projects in development, one of which is fairly near to completion. Some of these I might end up submitting to festivals and competitions, but I’m hoping to publish a lot more things online on a regular basis if I can.

I’m also working on a website! Nothing fancy, just a tidy way of gathering together all my work. More to follow soon! (I hope!!)

Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman | Unboxing Video

For The Criterion Collection’s UK release of Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman box set, I was approached by Criterion to produce a short unboxing video through the BFI, showing off all the samurai goodness packed inside.

Continuing the style of previous unboxing videos I’ve produced, this was created using stop motion animation. The music was stitched together using sections of the soundtrack from Zatoichi Goes Large, one of the films included in the release. The audio effects used were taken from a selection of various different films in the set.

La Belle et la Bête | 5 Reasons To Watch

A short promo I recently produced for the BFI’s Blu-ray release of Jean Cocteau‘s 1946 film “La Belle et la Bête”, highlighting 5 particular aspects that make it such a masterpiece.

NEWS: Accepted Into London Short Film Festival

Received some good news this weekend, my very silly micro-short film “Moonage Ice Cream” has been selected to screen at London Short Film Festival 2019!

The film is an 80 second audio/ visual remix of the work of David Bowie, made from animating 10 different Bowie-related album covers and accompanied by a cut-up track I made from isolated Bowie vocals (listen here).

The full programme is still still to be announced, so more details to follow soon!
