April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month!!!
Thus far, my sorors and I have been working hard to spread the word, from our “Teal Tuesdays” (teal is the official color for the commemorative month), to sharing statistics and facts with the student body, to our whiteboard campaign. It was great to see my peers willingly join in and express themselves, as we worked to raise awareness about SAAM. :)
This is just a few of the MANY photos we have taken, posted, and shared…and from what I’ve been informed, our movement has been picked up by the Deltas and our sorors at Bethune-Cookman University, as well.
Service…gotta love it!

Star Wars is particularly good at tailoring its villains to what people of the time fear most: in the late 70’s/early 80’s, it was faceless, militaristic dictators, in the late 90’s/early 00’s it was shady politicians who seize power questionably and then immediately start wars with murky ulterior motives, and in the 10’s, it’s twentysomething white men with no self-control.
100 Years of Beauty: USA Men (Lester) (Facebook: WatchCut)
First of all, Lester can get this business in every decade. Praise be to 4C Jesus they found some hairstylists that knew what do with Black hair because they did that man a solid in every single style. I know who I’m finna go to if/when I ever start to go bald.
Also though…this white lady in the comments [[deep groan]]…
Here is the caption under the video:
And this white lady just could not help herself y’all:
And you know I immediately clapped back on that foolishness:
I swear some of them just can’t help themselves!
“This is not about me? Let me remind you why it should be real quick.”
How unnecessary was she? None of the people they’ve put in the 100 Years of Beauty clips would be perceived as universally beautiful because there’s no metric for that. What she wanted to say instead of “universally beautiful” was “a European standard of beauty” but raise your hand if you really think Lester is going to be the only American man to show up in one of these videos. You know a white man is coming next as soon as February is over, so why can’t we have our little shortest month of the year to celebrate without tacky white folks being in their feelings?
We can’t even enjoy an INNOCENT video without commentary.

There is a gofundme for Kesha– so it would be great if you guys could reblog this to get the word out if you can’t donate yourself. There’s a FAQ on the gofundme itself so go there and look before you ask me any questions.
I am not affiliated with the creator of the gofundme, but I am all for it.
Here’s the link to that gofundme
@effyeahequality – thought you’d like to share this with your followers!

Camille Cosby Must Testify Today
Whoa, the culpability of the mother who ignores, tolerates to defends her traumatic bonding to the man she brought into my life & who raped me.
My mother died just last week, before my sexual abuser.
I desperately wanted that time after her husband died, to hear my mother apologize … but now, that will never happen.
I desperately wanted to know all the generational wounds, not being expressed.
My brother is just as culpable.
He @ that point in recovery, he won’t let his own girls near these dynamics but still believes that a catholic girls school will protect his daughters from the same injustices.
He blames me for his emotional cowardliness. I am requiring that those words “I love you” means compassion, protection and validation of my humanity. I’m requiring him to stand up against evil.
WHOA, Camille, I hate you for your weakness.
WHOA, Camille, I pity you for your weakness.
BUT I AM SO EXCITED THAT FOR THE NEXT WEEK on every news cast,
will finally, be the public discussion
of this most primal “Uncle Tom” sexism betrayal that the generation of women before us …. has done.
FYI the biggest difference betw sexual abuse/assault survivors
and their type of activism & advice
is whether the perpetrator was inside or outside their family.
When the survivor has a solid healthy foundation and the perpetrator is outside the that unit (a nanny, teacher, neighbor, stranger street rape) their advocacy will focus on changing the laws & more education.
When the survivor additionally has to find their way out of all their pre-programmed grooming and the perpetrator is also loved by family members, their advocacy will be focused on patriarchy & mental health recovery.
There’s a pharmacy down the street from me that has been here since the early 1900’s and it’s still a fully functional soda fountain and it has all the original counters and floors and the back of the store has this big cabinet full of old medical devices and cure-all products from the 30’s and it sells old candy that you can’t find anywhere and it’s been my favorite place in the entire world ever since i was a little kid and the town is tearing it down to build condos because who cares about a building that is technically a historical landmark when there’s houses for rich people that have to be built
Where is this!?!?!? I gotta go before it's tore down
"Back to what it's supposed to be" what? All white?
TO ANYONE CHATTING TO SOMEONE ONLINE
If you are considering meeting up with someone online use this trick identify who really are who they claim to be:
1. Ask them to Skype 2. If they refuse or can’t for some reason ask for a current selfie 3. If they also refuse or can’t do not meet up with them 4. If they provide one ask them to send another with them holding 3 fingers up 5. If they refuse read step 3 6. If they provide a selfie where they show 3 fingers they are probably for real
(If you’re still unconvinced try again with them drawing something in their hand)
I SAY THIS FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY please spread this message as more and more young people are lured out into situations where they get kidnapped because they weren’t 100% sure the person they were talking to was real.

Admit It: You Only Like Big Lips When They’re Not On Black People
Black women are constantly stuck in a messy beauty paradox. We’re routinely considered less attractive than other races and everything from our braids to our do-rags are derided as ghetto and unbecoming. And yet, at the same time, our hairstyles are repeatedly appropriated on different bodies and considered cool or chic. Some of our most notable physical features–like our butts–are ridiculed or exotified…and then non-black people get butt implants or wear booty pops in an attempt to make their butts bigger. Basically, black features aren’t cool until they’re on non-black bodies…and then they’re okay.
If you think I’m overreacting or making any of this up, just take a look at the response to a recent post on MAC’s Instagram page. It features a black woman with full lips wearing a gorgeous dark purple lipstick…
