Event Coverage: Burke Mt. Vermont
So a couple weeks ago I got a call from Jason Epp and Luke Melo that we were going to Vermont for the Push Culture Family Picnic so instinctively I said hell ya.
We started the weekend by driving up to Montreal where we met up with Dimm, OSL, K-money, and Kalie to grab some Poutine and Smoked meat sandwiches and skate some legendary hills afterwards, which I thought was a recipe for a regurgitated disaster, but there were zero fucks given.
So we dropped our stuff off and went for dinner after some safety talks, and anyone that's ever had smoked meat and poutine in one sitting will agree that the last thing you want to do after is move, you know what, they should have couches and oxygen tanks in those restaurants, you know if youre gunna kill us at least let us enjoy our last moments. Crazy french people.
But anyways... Drunk on cheese curds we decided not to skate westmount in the rain and go back to Dims place to pound some La Fin Du Monde and play some dice.
The next day, still raining, Ludo showed up at Dims place to watch the sun rise, it was pretty romantic, and we set out to Vermont with optimism that the temperature would rise 15 degress and the sun would come out within an hour.
But lets just say the more we drove, the worse it got.
By the time we got to the mountain, it was SNOWING, FUCKING SNOW, so i felt there was no rush to get the first shuttle to the top as you know it was FUCKING SNOWING.
So me luke and jay kinda chilled in the chalet until we decided it was time to skate. I am happy we went, but frostbite in may was a strange sensation.
My balls didnt know what to do, shrink from the cold, or drop from the icy road conditions while skating into hairpins.
The run was as epic as it gets with the most incredible grades, quality pavement, high speeds, and beautifully constructed corners.
It really is a shame the weather was a bust because Marc Dean really knew what he was doing there.
But we left and began day drinking.
All bummed out about the lack of skateboarding, I dont really have much to say about the rest of Saturday other than, Drink, Drink, and try to get your hats back from the cougars at the chalet bar.
When they tricked us into leaving because there was "cover" that we didnt realize was paid for we went back to the house, partied a little, all the east coast crew had a #yolo time and the ontario crew did the classic "im too stoked to skate real hills so im just gunna crash" kinda party.
Shout out to Ed Garner for winning the party
Sunday rolled around and even though it was drying up at the house, it was still snowing up at the mountain, so as we eagerly awaited Marcs call on the weather Me, Luke, and Jepp played some bench game to pass the time.
The call was made and the hill was a no go
But Marc pulled through again and got us some free entry at the Jay peak water park where they have a wave rider.
So in once again classic ontario fashion, we head right on over there to get our wave rider on.
Abouuuttt 3 hours later P-Swiss and the rest of the skaters showed up as we were packing up to go back to Burlington with Tom and Jake because if you stick with the locals and you have the best time.
Everyone was pretty amped on the crazy red waterslide though, it was pretty much vert. To go down, you have to weigh a certain amount or else you will just get stuck and they have to pull you out, and you stand on this trap door as this pod like thing closes around you the floor just opens up below you and the only thing I could think of was "what if I jumped right before it opened?" but that would probably be a bad idea..
So we left, got to Burlington and Dimm and Ludo took about three hours to set up their hanging whale vagina's to sleep in while me and luke perfected the art of the roomerang, trying to go pro you know!
They finally finished the hammocks and we got to the partying, man those vermontians? are pretty good hosts.
Dimm won the sunday night party forsure.
K-Money got some bitchin' cock rocket tattoos to match his barbed wire
and we ate more poutine.
Monday morning comes around and we had a "closed road" to ride that Marc wanted to check.
The drift trikers said it was the kitties titties so it had to be good right?
Lets just say this road was epic in every way
But knowing Vermont there is always a twist, SPACE PAVEMENT, the whole way down.
it was gnarly, falling there sucked, it just ate everything that came in contact with it.
At some points it was so bumpy you couldn't feel your board, at the smoother spots it would only stop you dead and you are going killer fast, making you go one footed, trying to regain your balance while being passed by lugers and drift trikers.
That road was scary at the least, so we lurked a bit and of course the PC crew p-swissed and showed up just as we were leaving.
But we barely hesitated to go search for some better pavement and not a long drive later, we found it!
This road was epic, beautiful pavement, no cracks, insane speeds, great width, it was heaven.
We mobbed down that road I would say we all got 6 runs in maybe more, and then went back to Montreal and said tawtaw to the VT crew/Geoff Chapel.
We got back to Montreal at around 2:00am ish and heard about a 5:00am top challenge session.
So we chilled for about an hour and decided two or three hours of sleep couldnt hurt.
We went, met up with the Mids crew and AJ, chilled with some trippy haggard racoons, took two runs to wake us up then head on back to ontario.
Lets just say this weekend was an interesting adventure at the least but I am glad I went because the little amounts of skating we did get in was beyond epic and has me aching to go back.
Huge shout out to Marc Dean and push culture for making this happen
and Burke/Jay peak for hooking us with the awesome venue
Dimm for the crash space
Tom and Jake for everything they did to make the weekend awesome
And especially BozBoards for sending me out there.
