TV ONES ; Best Female Empowerment Songs, Queen Latifah Ft Monie Love LADIES FIRST (1989)
The Best Female Empowerment Songs
“Ladies First” Queen Latifah feat. Monie Love (1989) Her stage name means “docile” in Arabic; but back in 1989, Dana Owens took no prisoners. On “Ladies First,” off her debut album, the militant Queen spat daggers like “A woman can bear you, break you, take you.” Add the iconic Africentric video, with La Generalissima in flossed-out military garb, grooving with hard-hitting dancerse, amidst photos of Harriet Tubman, Angela Davis and other revolutionary images. Monie Love also slayed dragon’s testicles: “I’m the daughter of a sister/ Who’s the mother of a brother who’s the brother of another/ Plus one more; all four/ Have a job to do, we doing it/ Respect due, to the mother who’s the root of it.” All Hail the Queen(s). Indeed.

MARTHAS VINEYARD Summer Madness 2014 :- LADIES FIRST!
LADIES FIRST- Righteous Rhymes & Business minds!
This year marked the first year I participated in the annual Summer Madness festival in Martha's Vineyard. Summer Madness is a festival created by some of the most innovated entertainment savvy minds spanning from Marketing,Production,Operations in TV, Movies,Radio,Consumer Products and Lifestyle backgrounds. As one years festival ends, planning begins for the following year, each year having it's own theme. This years theme celebrated the many contributions made to the world of entertainment and lifestyle,by women, appropriately dubbed LADIES FIRST! I had the pleasure of participating this year,by way of guest DJ set on the Friday nights events,MC Lyte performing also that evening at same event. What served as extremely pleasurable for me,the tranquil and serene setting of the Vineyards mild laid back vibe, family operated restaurants, glorious views from the pier, and calm breeze filled beach. The cherry on top for me I suppose was the meeting of the minds I was able to have with several influentially motivated minds, those of my fellow sisters also on the line up at this years festival. There's nothing like having a 'sister chat' discussing ideas, catching up with each other's families, exchanging parental gripes and sharing motherhood tips, and alerting each other on future endeavors, formulating methods of cross promotion for the greater empowerment of young women following behind us in the entertainment industries. All of this set to the backdrop of great musicians songwriters emcees DJs and entrepreneurs. For me this was a most pleasurable experience I was blessed to be a part of.
Essence Music Festival 20yr Annv 2014
Always a wonderful show of folks from across the country flock to New Orleans for great food and great entertainment. Not only are the entertainment industry elite on hand but many household names in consumer business seize the opportunity to inform a large demo of consumers of new products, helpful life and finance management tips, and community involvement. This year I took part in the " when did I fall in love with Hip Hop" panel and performance event on the Walmart stage, with DNice/DougE Fresh/David Banner/& MC Lyte moderated by Author & former music exec Shanti Das. A wonderfully attentive mass of people gathered around the Walmart stage to hear several different takes on the falling in love with Hip Hop culture and music, and also the varied ways in which Hip Hop has influenced product marketing on a global scale. With this also being my birthday wknd I relished being around fellow artists who share the same coming of age in culture as I, very much like a class reunion if you like. I enjoyed this panel immensely and this just tipped the iceberg of whom I would run into during the course of the rest of the wknd.
