Another Friday the 13th
So another Friday the 13th is here! I'm reposting the rules below. See you Friday December 13th!
It’s that time again! September 13th we will be doing $13 tattoos! (with a $7 tip, so $20) But before you come in hot, we have some rules you should take a look at. We don’t want to have to throw you’re rude ass out on the street before you get a fresh 13 tatt.
Rules:
* Come to the right location! We moved! The new address is 141 Division St. right off the F train (East Broadway stop) If you go to the old location, you’ll wait all day and not get tattooed.
* First come, first served! We open at 12 noon. That’s when we’ll start taking names. You must be here in person to get on the list! No over the phone jump ons or “uh my buddy is on the way” You’re buddy is late! and a rude friend if you ask me.
* Bring ID. Yeah, I believe you’re 18 but it’s New York State Law for you to have your ID on you when you get tattooed. Drivers Licenses, Passport, Military ID or any official government issued ID. You’re School ID might get you a discount at the book store but it doesn’t get you a tattoo, so get them the hell out of here.
* You may only choose from our Flash Sheet! We will have one flash sheet, revealed at noon from which you can choose from. Dat’s it!
* No Alterations! We will not change anything about the tattoos! Not the colors, size, lettering, or googely eyes. We’re not going to put your kids initials instead of the 13 or even take the 13 out. You get what we got!
* Be Cool! If you’re going to be rude, or feel any sort of entitlement you can get the hell out of here! We want everyone to have a good time here. Remember this is a $13 tattoo, so relax! This a fun thing, if you’re going to get upset you’re in the wrong place. This isn’t Wal-mart. Although we want you to be happy with you’re experience, this is a Tatty-Shack we don’t have to always be nice. Shit, 10 years ago if someone came in acting the way some of these people do, they would have gotten their asses beat and kicked to the curb by a biker who yeah, probably killed a guy once for fucking with his meth sales.
* One tattoo per customer! Sorry guys, we ain’t gonna “sleeve you out”
* No kids - you’d be surprised
* No phone calls - take that important business call outside. No one is impressed.
* Paperwork - you’ll have to fill it out. We have pens. “Am I signing my life away?” YES, I’ve heard that one. Save it for that sitcom pilot you’re writing.
* No Food in the Shop - No one wants to smell your Sub-way sandwich. And if I can give some life advice while we’re on the subject, no one wants to smell your extra onion hold the olives cutlet combo anywhere outside a Sub-way “restaurant”
* No hands or necks! do you really want your most visible tattoos to cost $13? Think about dawg.
* Be nice to our neighbors! We just moved into the neighborhood, we don’t want to piss anyone off.. just yet. Stay away from the doorways and don’t be too loud.
* No touch-ups sorry, we’ll give you a nice tattoo but again, you paid $13.
* Sometimes a design will Sell-out We’re all out of that one.
Friday the 13th is always a crazy day at the shop, we try to get to everyone but there is a risk you might not get tattooed at the end of the night. So get here early!
Let’s have some fun! We’re excited for everyone to check out our new shop and location! We love doing Friday the 13th so let’s keep it clean and respectful!
We are also excited about our new neighborhood, here’s some spot’s we think you should check out while you’re waiting!
28 Ming’s - Best Chinese food around! It’s only a couple doors down. 28 Canal St.
12 Corners - Great Coffee Shop right around the corner. 155 E. Broadway
Forgetmenot - Awesome bar and restaurant 138 Division
So see you on the 13th! Bring some friends!
What Pete has been up to! Make sure to follow him on instagram. @chillypete
The Big Move!
Daredevil Tattoo opened it's doors in 1997 on Ludlow St. in the Lower East Side but after 16 years it was time for us to find a new home. Our new location is located in Chinatown. 141 Division St. We couldn't be happier with our new space! Larger, brighter and custom built to house a large collection of tattoo antiques and memorabilia. We have been working in the new space since July 3rd. Stop in, check it out and get a fresh tattoo!
(A sneak peek at our new space. Michelle, Pete and Diego hard at work)
10 Years Of Legal Tattooing
Wow, 10 years of legal tattooing in NYC! Time flies when you're having fun. The New York tattoo scene has come a long way in the last 10 years. Before the ban was lifted we were kind of out of the loop in the tattoo world. 10 years ago we came out of a tattooing dark ages that lasted 30+ years. Now here we are and we have one of the best conventions in the country, tons of talent all around and I think the tightest tattoo community you can find. Of course I'm biased. Yet something about the city, maybe the close quarters, maybe the grit and grime, the energy, the history really makes the tattoo scene here unique. This past weekend we all got to toast 10 years well spent taking back our spot in the global tattoo scene. A big thanks to the guys who run the show at Roseland, (Bonge, Butch, Clayton) who give us all a chance to get together once a year, hang out and have something to look forward to the next time around.
This year we were honored to have Stanley Moskowitz working at our booth with us. Getting to spend time with Stanley, a true living legend and Bowery Boy was really special. To get to work next to a direct link to the origins of modern tattooing and our NYC history that all started on the Bowery 100 years ago was an amazing opportunity.
In Mike McCabe's "New York City Tattoo - The Oral History of an Urban Art" Mike writes, "Stanley and Walter Moskowitz were the last people to tattoo in Chatham Square on the historic Bowery in New York City. They learned the trade from their father Willie who had learned from Charlie Wagner in the 1940's. The Moskowitz Brothers are known affectionately in the tattoo community as "The Bowery Boys" and represent one of the last links to New York's tattoo heritage...."
The group picture has Timmy tats in the background working away, left to right Peggy Punch, Stanley Moskowitz, me, Bill Salmon, Crazy Philidelphia Eddy and Steve Von Riepen. Me Jason and SVR all got tattooed from Stanley check out our souvenirs from the weekend.
Kristen Schaal (or Mel from Flight of the Conchords) stopped by Daredevil to shoot a small clip for the show.
