Sam laughed before pausing as he was pulled into a hug. “Hey, I haven’t met this guy yet either. When is that going to happen?” He’d been trying really hard not to get emotional about all of this but he wasn’t sure how long he’d be able to stay neutral. His brother from another mother was getting married after all. This was a day that Sam had been looking forward to for years. “Please, you’re the one who’s always bailing me out and telling me not to do stupid shit.”

“How about tonight? I’ll pull you in his direction once I sober up.” He chuckled, feeling the emotions stir in his chest just thinking about the things Sam was saying. It was too much for him and after all the drinks, he truly started to tear up and he wiped his eyes. “You’ve bailed me out of sadness though so…that just speaks volumes about the kind of man you are.”

“Pppft, lovely wife. We sass majorly.” She giggled lightly. “I like that, I’m an only child, so I didn’t have a big family.” She bit her lip lightly, her eyes following his to Marcus. “Ummm,” she hummed gently. “Never go to bed angry. Sort arguments out as they happen.” even tipsy, it was the best advice she could give, some of the arguments she and Mason had since they met had been rough. Making sure you didn’t go to bed angry was important.

“But that’s what makes the relationship so great.” He laughed along with her. “I’m the oldest of two. A little sister. Just turned 18 and she’s a handful. I sound more like a dad than anything else.” He listened carefully to the advice, an appreciative nod in her direction. “Yeah. That’s very good advice, actually. I will remember that.” Darius spun her in her spot with a smile. “What is your favorite thing about being married?”

“Good, we’re going to have a good time here in the summer too, this place is so damn nice,“ Marcus commented, looking around. It was better than his place, Marcus could see himself fitting in just nicely here. He raised an eyebrow and laughed at the words Darius used. “No worries, you’re hot when you’re speaking like that,“ Marcus grinned. “Hows the doctors, your parents?“

”He pushed his plate aside when the conversation moved to his cancer. At least it was out, the majority of it. Just the embarrassing part to get through. He watched Darius move next to him, this was the moment, get it out in the open. “It’s not brave, I’m embarrassed as hell about it. I probably wouldn’t have told you if I didn’t have to. That’s nothing on you, it’s just me. I hate it. Let me show you.” He stood up, undoing his belt and loosening the button on his jeans. “I need you to just feel, okay? Then you’ll get it. Trust me.” He reached for Darius’ and placed it down his trousers, on top of his boxers. Marcus watched Darius’ face, focused on his reaction as he moved the man’s hand to Marcus’ fake left testicle. “Fake,” Marcus bit out. “Only the one.” It was hard and obviously fake when touched. Visually, people couldn’t tell until they got close.  

“I’m glad you like it. I’m very proud of it.” He admitted it with a smile. While he grew up with money, he was always proudest of his own accomplishments. The apartment became his after he received four straight commissions for his sales. He had rewarded himself with the place and felt damn good about it. You like my science talk, huh?” He smirked and looked up at his boyfriend. “They’re alright. They haven’t been driving me crazy about the wedding which only means they’ve been preoccupied with work.”

Darius gathered the plates to the center of the table and was sure to keep his focus entirely on Marcus. His eyes shifted from the other’s face to him unbuttoning his jeans and at a loss for words. “Oh…okay.” He let Marcus guide his hand, his eyes glued to Marcus. He let his hand rest where he was guided to for a few seconds, the warmth coursing through him. “I see…” He waited a beat or two before gingerly bringing his hand back and letting it rest on his knee.  “Can I ask…why do you hate it?”

Marcus smiled, proud of his idea. We wanted it as a reminder, even when his ring wasn’t there. He was married and hopefully, the remainder would keep him in line and stop him screwing up. He wanted Darius, he didn’t want to hurt him in any way. “Good, I thought you might like it,” Marcus smiled. “My first tattoo too, you should feel special.”

“We’ve all had a lot going on,“ Michael said, smiling at Darius. Marcus knew his father already approved, he’d spoken about Darius to his dad a few times and Michael liked the sound of him. He’d always wanted Marcus to settle down, find someone good and decent. “We better go move the family to the reception, but I’ll catch you, boys, later,“ Michael smiled, leaving with his wife. Once they were out of sight, Marcus reached for Darius’ hand and squeezed it. “At least you’ve avoided my sisters, they’re a huge pain in the ass. They’ve already been warned to leave you alone, they like to piss me off because they’re not used to me in a relationship.“ Plus Marcus was possessive of Darius and it made his sisters laugh. 

“I do feel special.” He admitted with less humor in his voice and more appreciation for the man before him. He had never thought before he’d feel this kind of admiration for any one and with a romantic undertone. Suddenly, he found himself in one of those situations where you feel like you’re on the outside looking in. It was all so surreal and frightening in the most positive way possible. He did feel special and very few were lined up to make him feel in such a way. So he took Marcus’ hand and kissed his knuckles, a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

“Ain’t that the truth, sir.” He chuckled, already at ease with the man and he nodded as he left towards the reception. “Alright, sir. We will catch up later.” He shook his head and took Marcus’ hand, interlacing their fingers together. “I think I’ll like meeting them as well. We can all gang up on you, huh?” He chuckled softly and gave his husband’s hand a squeeze. “So, thank you for my gift. I absolutely love our first born…”

Marcus couldn’t help himself, he leaned forward and pressed a kiss to Darius’ cheek. “Thanks, you look very handsome too,” Marcus smiled, eyes going over Darius. He glanced at their rings, the symbol they were married now. He lifted his hand, showing his wedding ring to Darius. “Not sure if you noticed, but I had a bit of a surprise the other day for you.” He slipped the ring down slightly, displaying the tattoo of Darius’ name on his ring finger. “I can’t wear my ring at work with the fires, thought this was a good compromise. Some guys at work have done it.” Marcus slipped his ring back on. 

He was so focused on Darius, he didn’t notice his mother or father approach. His father coughed, smirking at Marcus. “Hey,” Marcus said, pulling back. “D, this is my mom and dad. Michael and Sarah.” Marcus’ mother went straight in for a hug, a huge grin on her face. “Welcome to the family, Darius,” Michael said with a family. “Won’t keep you, kids, long, we’re going to head to the reception. Just wanted to say congrats.” Sarah moved to Marcus, hugging him too and then moving to stand by her husband. 

He watched Marcus as he looked at him like that and Darius was full of wonder on how he got here. Sometimes he just felt like a spectator, like he was on the outside looking in. It was that surreal experience he had been talking to Dorothy about. How did so much good happen to him? He looked down at the ring finger and held up his husband’s hand, gaze slowly flickering up to meet his. “That’s...” He was always someone who did well with words so to be a a loss for them was rare. Knowing that someone like Marcus, someone who was really putting his all into this would do something so permanent for Darius made him feel special. “I love it, Marcus.” 

He was so lost in the moment that when his in-laws approached them, Darius had to gather his thoughts. “Ma’am, sir.” He nodded and held out his hand only to chuckle at the hug, holding out his arms for the embrace. “Thank you very much and it’s a good a time as any to apologize for not doing this sooner and before the wedding. I’m a traditional man and family is important to me. I promise I will take care of your son.”

Dorothy: Anytime, and hey just remember that deep breaths do work wonders. Miles and I will both be there for you guys (Sidney too 😉) We're doing well! He's been spending more time with Sidney than me lately thanks to work lol but oh man, the honeymoon was a lot of fun! Which reminds me there may be a small souvenir here for you (:

“Well he might be making an honest man but you better not lose that mischievous side of yourself that makes you Darius.” She teased, pulling out of the hug with a huge grin on her face. “Well it is your party so far be it from me to stop you from having more. I just want to make sure that you share with the rest of us!” She laughed, grabbing his hand as they headed out to the dance floor. The music was loud and fast and she was really feeling it as she danced around the semi-crowded floor. “Oh no doubt! This is such a great song to dance too!” She shouted, holding on to him as she danced around him. “So what’s your thought process? Are you nervous? Excited? Scared?” 

“Girl, never. Please. Darius the great is a legend and he will continue on.” He smirked and let her pull away. He nodded though he realized he might have had too much to drink. For now, he would stick to dancing. He gladly followed Keely to the dance floor and waved at the guests. Mason really did an amazing job. “Right? I’m obsessed.” Darius chuckled and watched Keely go. “I’m a little bit of everything but not really nervous to be honest. I’m just thinking it’s all so surreal. I am very excited though which I never thought I would be saying.”

Alex was glad to be home, glad that she was finally attempting to try and figure out a routine with the baby, even though she was also still exhaused and wished that she could have a straight day just to sleep and not have to get up at all.  And while that wasn’t an option, she was glad that Ellie seemed like she was about to doze off, that was until she heard Darius at the door and the girl perked back up with a scared cry.  Sighing, Alex tried to comfort her daughter as she went over to the door, sliding it open with a tired smile for her friend.  “Hey,” she said as she moved away from the door so that Darius could walk in, bouncing Ellie a couple of times to try and calm her down, “look its your Uncle Darius,” she softly said to the baby, shifting slightly so that her face was facing him.

He was nervous. Of course he was. That fear of messing something up or hurting his niece existed and it was very real. How would he live with himself? How would Alex? His track record with kids was still pretty great despite his concerns but there was something ingrained in him that he just couldn’t get rid of. Something he had yet to explore. Why was he like this? He walked in, lips parting slowly as if his brain was sending the signal for him to talk but his mouth couldn’t process. “Hey...” He whispered, his throat suddenly going dry. The logistics was there. Alex was no longer pregnant and the baby he had once look at on a sonogram photograph was in her arms. Yet....it wasn’t clicking. Ellie was crying and it was breaking his heart and the moment her tiny little face was facing him, he swore he was in love. Every piece of him screamed to run away because he was terrified as hell but also, every piece of him wanted to stay and hold her and tell her he’d protect her. “She’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen...”

“Hell yeah, let’s dance!” Sam exclaimed as soon as he took the picture, slinging an arm over his friend’s shoulders. “What?” He asked, faking surprise. “You’re getting married? Is that what this celebration is all about?” He laughed, looking over at Darius, suddenly struck by how insane it was that they had both made it this far. “Look at you, my baby’s all grown up and saving China.”

Sam would always be someone Darius appreciated having by his side. He adored his best friend, cared for him like a brother. There was something very emotional about this moment. They had gone through so much together. “Oh shoot, man. I shoulda told you.” He smiled widely and bringing Sam in for a hug. He waited a few seconds before he buried his faced into Sam’s shoulder. “I don’t think I’d be anywhere without you. No joke.”

“Mason is a great party planner.” The tipsy writer smiled brightly at the mention of her husband, laughing as Darius spun her around.  “They are super close, like brothers, or the grown up child you can’t get rid off.I think it means I adopt you to be honest.” Kiara grinned at him. “I was married to Gryffindor - I mean Maze first.” she giggled a little, head leaning against his shoulder. “You’re getting married sooooon though!” 

“He is. He’s a good guy and I’m honestly blessed to have met him and now his lovely wife.” He chuckled, continuing his dance and of course, sticking to his charm. “Well, that works for me. I can never have too many sisters!” he smiled. “I know! I can’t believe it!” He looked over to Marcus. “Any advice from a seasoned person of course!”

Marcus reached over and held Darius’ hand and squeezed it. The kiss was soft and sweet, he just loved being around Darius. It was always so easy to talk and be honest with him. Despite the bull, Marcus told others, he was honest and real with Darius. “Plus it helps your pretty good eye candy,” Marcus teased with a grin. 

“Is it too cheesy to say barbeque? There’s nothing better for me than sitting outside and doing some real meat on a barbeque, beers and just chilling,“ Marcus smiled. “But I like making steak if we’re inside. I’m a bit of a meat man.“ He placed his fork down, not feeling that hungry anymore. His stomach was full of nerves talking about this. “Sorry, I should have waited but I just… I needed to get it out. I was fifteen when I got diagnosed. It took a few operations and chemo to cure, but its made things… I’m a little different in some areas. I can show you better than I can explain, after your pasta.“ SHowing Darius would be a lot easier than letting the man wonder what the hell a fake testicle looked like. He picked up his fork and took a few more spoonfuls before finishing the bowl. His mouth felt a little dry, nerves building up. 

To think there was a time where he had a major aversion to relationships. It surprised even Darius how quickly he and Marcus had not only clicked but progressed as matches. He felt lucky of course but he couldn’t help thinking back on it. He wondered sometimes if things were different without this law. As much as he hated it, it got something right. Perhaps, without the tiny push, he would have never gotten here with anyone. “Says my boyfriend the underwear model, geeze.” He chuckled. 

“Not cheesy at all. I absolutely agree though. That’s why I like the summer. We’re going to be doing a lot of grilling and you’re looking at a master griller too. Alright, good to know. We’ll be having plenty of that just not too much. Gotta watch our triglycerides. Uh...sorry, when you live with doctors, you adapt the talk.” He grinned but it faltered when he noticed Marcus’ smile fell too. There was something off about him and the topic of hand had a lot to do with it. IT was hard to take in, knowing the man he had grown to like so much had gone through such a rough time in his life. Again, his mind went back to the law. Had he met him without the assistance, would he at least have been there for him? He finished up his pasta, letting the silence fall between them but flashing him soft smiles of encouragement. “Baby...” He got up after wiping his mouth and pulled the chair beside him.”You do know that whatever you have to tell me, I will commend you for being so brave about it, right? What’s going on in that head of yours?”

“So the wedding’s this week, right? Is everything ready?“ Wyatt asked with a smile. It was nice to see someone excited about this law. “Oh yeah, just got my letter. Its a disaster. Currently trying to pick an island to run off to.“

“That’s right! Almost there! Just some last minute touches. I don’t know how people do this for a living!” He chuckled, crossing his arms at his chest. “Why’s it a disaster? Not getting along with your match? Well, I tried burning my letter when I got it and now here I am!”

“With my flippy-floppies!” Jace sang, putting his phone down once the snapchat videos timed out, sending it all to his story. “Hey, man, congrats. I mean it. I hope it’s fireworks and all that for you. You know I’m not a big believer of the whole getting hitched thing but, if we must, it might as well be the way you’re doing it.”

He chuckled and his expression softened at the congratulations. “Thanks, Jace. That means a lot to me and I’m not much of a fan of it either but Marcus is a good guy and I think he’s definitely worth trying. So, how you been? How’s the bar?”

Marcus felt his palms sweat listening as the vicar finished up the speeches. It was his family vicar, the one he went to every Sunday with his grandmother. It was one of the reasons Marcus kept going to church, because this guy never judged him, for his sexuality or faults. So it felt more special as the man went on to pronounce them husbands. This was it, they were married, with rings on their fingers. Marcus had a husband. Finally, it was time to kiss the groom. 

Turning to Darius, Marcus licked his dry lips and looked over Darius. He looked so handsome in his suit. He looked stunning and now, he was all Marcus’. Placing a hand on Darius’ waist, Marcus leaned in and pressed his lips to Darius. He made the kiss gentle at first, cautious that their families were watching, but screw it, this was their first official kiss as husbands. Deepening the kiss, Marcus slipped a hand to hold the back of Darius’ head, his tongue going into Darius’ mouth as Marcus’ sisters let out a few wolf whistles. Pulling back, Marcus smirked. “Hey hubby,” Marcus smiled.

Darius wasn’t nervous. He couldn’t quite pin-point his feelings at the time which was terrible considering that is the go to question from most people at weddings. ‘Hey, how do you feel? Feel any different? How’s married life?’. It’s been such a whirlwind since his letter arrived. At times it felt like it was only yesterday that he had summoned the fire department because of his stupidity and at other times it felt like such a giant blur. He smiled at the vicar’s words, politely nodding with his hands to the front of him. Occasionally, he’d look over to his sister and mothers who seemed happier than most times. He’d have to talk to them later to see if they were. And then it was over. Just like that and with a flick of the wrist and a signature, he was a husband. Not just any husband, Marcus’.

He smiled widely at Marcus’ eagerness only to close his eyes to accept the kiss, parting his lips slowly and gently capturing his husband’s lips with his. Hearing the crowd only pumped him up and his fingertips grazed over Marcus’ side. He pulled away with a soft smile, taking his hand and raising it up for the others to clap. “Hey.” He whispered. He couldn’t believe they were doing this. Marcus did make him happy and while the law didn’t, he was at least one of the lucky ones. “You’re looking great, by the way. I didn’t get to tell you earlier.”
